It's a tie between Koji Kondo (Zelda series, Super Mario Bros. series ect.) & Yuzo Koshiro (Revenge of Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Actraiser ect.).

There are others that I like to mention like Masato Nakamura (Sonic 1 & 2), Hidenori Maezawa (Castlevania 1-3, Contra, Gradius, Jackal), Nobuyuki Hara Kun & Naoki Kodaka San (Batman, Blaster Master, Batman:Return of the Joker, Journey to Silius), S.Kajiyya, Mayuko Okamura, Ryuichi Nitta, Keiji Yamagishi, More Yamasan, B.B.,Hasake (Ninja Gaiden I & II, Tecmo Super Bowl) and Manami Matsumae, Ogertsu Kun & Yoshihiro Sakaguchi (Mega Man 2).

Yuzo Koshiro, of course, and there's another one I like so much who is Phillipe Vachey, the Toy commander music composer (Also Alone in the Dark and Simon the sorcerer), he's a really original composer

Akira Yamaoka.

While I could mention many others, like the composers for The Elder Scrolls, Nintendo games, SEGA games, Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei, Yoko Kanno. This list of good composers go on and on, but they only make music, sure mostly it fits the mood of the game, and is really good, but only Akira Yamaoka has so far managed to help bring the game alive.

What he does with Silent Hill is amazing, the game would not be the same without him, in many ways the ambient noises and music he makes is part of what makes Silent Hill Silent Hill.

I love the music in Simon the Sorcerer, thanks for telling me who did it.

Kazumi Totaka. He worked on Mario Paint, Animal Crossing, and Brawl. Loved the music to Animal Crossing and Brawl. Also famous for "Totaka's Song" or "The Mario Paint Song" easter eggs.

Takenobu Mitsuyoshi, for obvious reasons. But also Morihiko Akiyama and co for the Shinobi 3 OST. And... but that's for something else, a certain ZUN...

Yasunori Mitsuda for Chrono Cross. He's worked on many other compositions but CC's soundtrack blew me away.

Kinda wanna change my vote to Jeremy Soule, just to get some diversity in here.

But no, I'll stick with my original.

Oh HER, can't forget about HER.

No HER is not a composer I like. HER is one I'd like to capture and lock in the basement for insanity (YET ANOTHER TOUHOU REFERENCE)

Seriously, SHE isn't bad, but you know what her songs were made of. Insanity. And booze imo.

Every composer Konami employs, but most importantly Michiru Yamane and practically every other composer for the Castlevania series.

Well, I really like Kenichi Tokoi and Fumie Kumatani(I believe they did some background music for Sonic Adventure and other various Sega games). Also, no one can beat(in my opinion) Jun Senoue's music!

A tie between Akira Yamaoka, Richard Jacques, and Daisuke Itishiwatari. Too hard to pick just one.

Would you guys mind telling what the composers you list composed music for?

I mean, with obvious names like Koji Kondo, Nobou Uematsu, Yoko Kanno or Richard Jacques, it's not necessary... but I have no friggin idea who the hell Tommy Tallarico is. Never heard of him. And that although I have almost 100 GB of video game music on my HDD.

Tommy Tallarico has done work on Cool Spot, The Terminator, Robocop vs. The Terminator , Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 , MDK, Out of this World, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Aladdin, Spider-Man (PS one & N64) and many others....

Out of that list I only played (and own in terms of music) only Earthworm Jim... So, no real wonder I don't know him.

ZUN: The guy who did a great deal of Touhou albums and arrangements. This guy deserves a lot of praise indeed.
ZTS: He does his own remixes for Clannad songs and is another really good doujin mixer most famous for his VAGUE IN WINTER series.
