Insert Coin 2009 – this year’s brand new arcade game expo - 18-19th July!
Welcome to the best spam thread ever: this is going to be the biggest and greatest gaming event of the year!
It’s with great pleasure that I can now officially announce Insert Coin 2009, a dedicated arcade gaming expo taking place over the weekend of July 18th-19th in Northampton, UK.
This is your chance to help re-kindle true social gaming by meeting fellow hobbyists, butting heads in competition, and sampling hundreds of exciting titles new and old from developers such as:
Cave
Psikyo
Raizing
SNK
Capcom
...to name but a few. It's going to be a shmup dream, with some of the latest and greatest titles all on free play:
Rambo
SEGA RALLY 3
Ghost squad
House of the dead 2,3 and 4
Lots of sega naomi, STV, model3, Chihiro (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=729) and Lindbergh (http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=731) based games
Death Smiles
Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu
Espgaluda 2
Ibara
Pink Sweets
Guwange
Dangun Feveron
Progear
Mushihimesama Futari
Battle Garrega
Armed Police Batrider
Street Fighter IV
Night Slashers
R-Type Leo
...and over a hundred more!
The show will be all access, featuring dedicated machines, classic cabs and new candy cabinets from Japan. You only pay for your ticket, and after that all games are totally free.
There are a number of competitions being held over the weekend catering to all tastes with plenty of Shmup score tournaments and prizes to win, and a raffle in which two lucky winners will be receiving either an Egret 2 arcade cabinet or a Namco Cyberlead 2 (TBC).
In addition, Insert Coin will feature tech talks around arcade hardware and cabinets from the experts, and PCB’s and a number of other wares will be on sale at the various stands around the venue. Save your pennies, you might find a bargain!
We’re looking forward to having visitors from all over Europe, and it would be fantastic to see all the members of Shmups forum in attendance so we can put names to faces.
All you need to do to check out the full line-up of games and find out the details of exactly what’s going on, is pop over to the Insert Coin 2009 website, now open for registration and questions. Just click the banner below:

Thanks for your time.

Sounds great but I doubt I'd be able to go. I lack money and transport. >_<
Sounds good, might have a look into going.
Sounds that it favours shmups alittle more than other arcade genres though.

Somewhat. I guess the most important question is; will the Asterix arcade game be there?

I'm gonna try to be in for sure.
I may have took book myself in a hotel while i'm up there as its being held quite far from where I am which would save me the trouble of going back & fourth from London to Northampton.

Asterix arcade - I personally dont know anyone who owns this. But i will put my feelers out for it ;-) Anything else?
Well i want to see Golden axe 2 Revenge of death adder. Such a great game and for me was one of the last great scroling beat em ups.
I am in talks with some one about bringing Asian dynimite down (AKA die heard arcade 3)
What of other Konami games, like TMNT and The Simpsons?
Lordstar

they came out earlier than golden axe R.O.D.A.
Bucky o hare and cows of moosmessa were a bit pants :-(

I love all of those games including Bucky and cows. I just played through bucky again on sat, thinking about it. Golden axe RODA is a cracker though I think. Shame it didn't come out on any consoles.

Not played cows of moosmessa heard it was a metal slug style game with cows and dude I liked Bucky O Hare. But out of Konami's games I really enjoyed Sunset Riders, that game is a classic.
Also will there be any Laser Disk games there? Not really played much of them when they came out so it would be nice to play some rather then on DVD which just sucks.

Yeeeah sunset riders! Now i know a dude with that. its an awesome arcade game ;-)
I dont own metal slug myself but i know people who have all of them i know most of them if not all will be at IC09

The first RadioSEGA meetup...? Count me in!
(...if I can get time off work, that is)
Just realised a fault in my plan..... No Licence, No Car, Getting a coach will cost nearly £80 and i'll have to be there the day before.... Need to see if i can find a relitive who can come with me on the weekend (i have got 5 months though so... never know)
Oh do you think there may be a special "RadioSEGA Arcade Cup/Challenge" tourny for the members who are going?? ;)

Anyone know of any good pubs in the area? I think it would be the perfect day, arcade gaming and after we all get our drink on.

Northampton, hmm, that's a bit near me. I am tempted to go.
I might go, just depends on wheather I can afford the fuel money (or train fare, depending on how brave I feel) and the hotel and other stuff that'll cost money.

Problem with these trips is none of us have much money due to current state the world is in.

There is a bar in the IC-09 Expo itself right next door to my stall (im a clever bastard me) there is also a private event which is a ticket only event which has some talks with industry people along with DJs and music (again sorting that out myself too) I need to talk to the big boss here about that.
There maybe some spaces in our hotel which has the lowest rates in the area on the weekend of the expo along with a few other things going on. I will have full details closer to the time. The hotel i will have a word with the boss and see if i can secure some for the radiosega froum.

It depends on what you do for a living. If your self employed then yeah it can be a bit of a tough one to pull off. But you cant let these things stop you from enjoying yourself I mean last year I was really strapped but if i did not take my holiday then i might not of been able to take one until 2011. So I booked it despite the fact my job was a bit shakey at the time and got my head down and got on with the work. I went to Tokyo for three weeks and had the best time ever.
If you weight it up its cheaper than a festival and you can get a hotel and get cooked brefast in the morning. You dont have to eat expensivley either. Im pretty sure there is a super market in walking distance of the venue along with a fast food place. All the games are free on site too
besides downloads lineup is looking a bit weak this year. Lots of repeats of thwe past few years and motley crue *yawn* hehe

some work is better than no work. It pisses me off becuase I am looking for staff local to me to help me make tees and alough the pay is ok for someone with no qualifacations we have had two people apply for the job both of which failed to turn up for the interview.
So there out there but just keep looking.

were in talks with sega directly is there anything you guys want sega to bring down to the show out of there recent arcade machines ?
I would not mind seeing 2Spicy there. I played this while i was in Japan and its pretty good fun yet I've never seen a 2Spicy cab over here so it would be nice to play it again.
Other then that I would like to play SEGA Race TV as I've heard really good things about it and it looks like great fun and maybe even Yu Suzuki's canceled arcade game Psy-Phi if thats remotely possible.
Dr Shaneman
15-02-2009, 14:11
Just make sure they got a Scud Race and Daytona there.
There is a Sonic 1 arcade machine as well if I remember right.
Oh, Sakura Columns!!!
There is a Sonic 1 arcade machine I remeber playing that years ago. And yes we need to have Scud Race that game is a classic. Not heard of Sakura Columns but if you love puzzle games you would want to play this :)

Lordstar

yeah i think Azu manga puzzle is there as its a naomi GDrom game. One of if not the best version of Puzzle bobble going its got a good vs mode and the puzzles are pretty good fun too while not being OTT like Puzzbobble 4

Also, that game was using a Dreamcast emulator?

If that's the case, I challenge you 7Force!

it was a not a Dreamcast emulator, it never came out to DC. on its boot up the big give away was the Naomi title rather than the DC swirl. its a new emulator which replicates the drives of a naomi arcade machine. Which i must admit i have mixed feelings over.
A) it opens up to the world of scummy pirates trying to rip people off like the fake CPS2 boards out there
B) Gd rom drives are slowley starting to die off as they are hitting multi million spins and there little hearts are giving up the ghost. But at least these games will be preserved forever (be it in EU form)-_-

Also want to see Tron.

And besides I wanna see Reknoc play Para Para cuz that would be funny XD

If exist the possibility for Para Para, I suppose Dance Dance Revolution too.
Or Even Pump it Up, how I would like to play them there.
I would like to see SEGASonic there. You know that Sonic arcade game with the track balls? I played it years ago in a SEGA arcade in Croydon, was a great laugh to play I would love to play it again. I got it on MAME but the ROM's not perfect and its no fun playing it with a mouse.

The rest of the games are pretty much JP only.
not sure about Para Para Paradise though. Is it all in english or have they imported one from HK or JP
I know a guy who owns a R360. They weight about 2-3 tons so and require a lot of building so its not somehting you can move around for a weekend :-S

The Para Para cab the troc has is imported from Japan. While I was there the troc had a new Bemani game called Ubeat which is like a touch screen music game which was pretty good fun but Konami only had it there on location test and is now gone :( would be cool if that was there at the upcomig expo.
Shame that Taiko No Tatsujin may not be there, I was hoping to hit a big ass drum with a stick to the beat of some J-pop music.

Its been a while for me but i'm willing to make an ass of myself too:biggrin: count me in.

I am SO bloody depressed right now. XD
Man, I wish I could join you guys, but there's no chance of me getting to England for a while. I've never had any real experience of arcade goodness, only what I've got re-issued in console form. Ah well. Have fun everybody, and win one for me! :guitar:
Sunset Riders, now there's one of my favorite arcade titles. I've got the Genesis version. I only ever used to be able to beat it with Cormano Wild - the one with the wide-range shotguns - but in recent years I've done it with Billy Cool, the straight-shot bullet guy. Fun, fun game. I always loved how the enemies can get flattened by the barrels and boulders; cracks me up every time! XD
Yet, despite all my best efforts, I've never been able to break that rank 1 high score, 400,000. Ah well.

I will be in attendence in fact I'm booked to DJ for you lot and everyone else for a large portion of both Saturday and Sunday! I'm fortunate enough to be staying in a hotel with some of the organisers so I got lucky but the aarandale was one place I was looking at staying at, but you're probably be looking at paying around £40 a night for a room.
There will hopefully be a number you can text - this will be for making requests and shoutouts during the day. The organisers have 99% said it will be in use during the day but should be quite interesting. Oh and yeah there's gonna be plenty of great games to play when I get round to doing that XD

...and now, i'm listening to the station.
Thanks for adding to a great weekend.

This looked like a right laugh, really wish I'd gone now.
To compound the misery I was actually in Northampton that weekend - watching a bloody falconry display at Rockingham Castle instead though.

Why would someone dress up as a Nurse from Silent Hill at an arcade con? I don't think there even is a Silent Hill arcade game!
Also the storm trooper (though he looked more like a clone trooper from the side) should have been playing star wars games.

It did not matter anyone who was from a video game, console or arcade was welcome.

Funny thing is as I was typing that I thought "I bet there's a shit light gun game based on it". Because that's what Japan does, they make light gun games out of everything.

its not too bad but I think Lethal Enforcers 3 is more fun, which was also at the show.

aaaahhhgh i pretty much left this thread alone I got tied up in all kinds of shit before the show. Just want to give a shout out to everyone who came down to IC09 and a extra big super special sexy mad props to RadioSega and Fast feet media for pulling off one of the longest computer game DJ sets ever. Really was quantity and quality

hummmm *thinking* well next year I will contact Guinness and see if we can set one. They were there this year and no doubt they will be there next year. No promises but my friend who is a huge gaming music fanatic was gutted he was not able to play at this event. so there is at least one other person and I had people asking about doing fighting game sets aswell.
I'll have to see if I can attent IC10. I honestly tried to see if I could make it, and unfortunately couldn't. Might be a different story next year though, so we'll see.

I'm certainly up for another Insert Coin event :)
Also, I met up with Alan at the UK Pinball Show today. He apparently hasn't been home yet.
