Hello there
Im just posting this as i've not done a game in awhile and this really is because of the way I choose who picks the games. So just to keep things at a steady(ish) pace, Im just asking that anyone that wants to take part in discussions of retro games or learn about ones you may not of heard of. Rather than me Pm'ing yourselves. If anyone ever has a game in mind could you please pm me the games you think are worth doing and i'll list one every week.
I'll also keep this thread open as a suggestion thread for the Retro club. This site is for us all to enjoy and I would appreciate any suggestions that may make it even better.
a beautiful game that I really appreciated is zelda ocarina of time ... truly a masterpiece ...
a good idea!
4 very fan of retro!!!
Maybe we could figure out something past 16 BIT?
Also, the only concrete way to get people playing more would be to offer the emulators and ROMS, or links to them.
Which of course is a nono...so...hmm...

Or recommending the E.T. game, just to give headaches. XD
@topic:
I seriously don't know which game, but we should make newer rules, like choosing games from 8-bit to the 64-bit (since we can't have DC games because of the reason Rayne told. XD)
I'll give a think about it. :D

Why? How stupid would people need to be to not find a rom/emulator themselves?
Heck even N64 and PS1 emulators and roms/isos are easy to find nowadays.

Lazyness man.
I never bother to search for things myself because I'm busy but if I had the link then I would click it, you know?
I think 64 Bit would be more fun but my laptop struggles...I recently played F-Zero on it which rocked :D I guess I should get a gamepad
For the record, own F-Zero X on N64 ;) hah, go me

I'd be up for going along with this again but really can't be bothered downloading PSX or N64 emulators. I know I sounds stupid, but skulking round dodgy sites and basically stealing games is far too much hassle for my liking, I'd sooner buy the damn game than have to arse about with anything more complicated than Mame.
Good point, some of the links that I've been sent to after looking for N64 Roms weren't particuarly pleasant.

Hmm, well I'm not saying don't do it, if you're all up for it I don't want to ruin the fun or anything, I'll just miss out that week or try to see if I can buy it if I don't already have the game that's been nominated.
My N64's AV cable is broken and I suddenly had this huge urge to play F-Zero X :P of all the cravings...

It's a top game, I always used to use the octopuss-like creature. I think his ship was called the deep claw. Was alright at it back in the day too, even beat lot of the developer ghost laps on time trails.
I don't get that good an many games now, but that must be the up side of being a sprog and only getting games for Birthdays and Christmases.
It really is a kick-ass game :P one of my top 5 Nintendo games ever.
I liked the Octopus guy :D but I also liked the one with the large wings, it was a light grey...someone McCloud? He was kinda cool.

Ah I remember him, James McCloud who drove the Wyvern (might have been Fox's dad but don't quote me on that). Good speed and accleration but took damage really easily.

Fox is a fox, and James is err...human, I'd love to have seen how that happened :P
...
Changed my mind, I don't want to see how it happened
yeah, cool car :3 fast, avoid conflict. I liked Picco too, as well as the woman arrow

Heh, yeah, well I've had a look on wikipedia to see if it was me or Nintendo that needed certifying, turns out the guy has the same name as James McCloud from the Starfox games and was a sort of homage to him but is actually a different character.
Ah, I figured it was a cameo, or nod to other Nintendo fans :3
Think F-Zero would make a good CGi movie? Ala Resi Degeneration?

It could, though maybe more Speed Racer than Degeneration.
F-Zero X is one of those games I've been meaning to grab on the VC for a long time :I

You aren't clever... seriously.

It made me laugh :P
As an idea, we could have competitions or something...?
Like if we all played F-Zero, post our times on a certain track? That sort of thing? :/

I really like the competition aspect. Best lap times etc. We could definately incorparate that. If most people don't have a problem getting PSone/ N64 games online I'd be happy to play some. Alot of them are over 10yrs old now. I think thats classes as retro-enough.
I propose a challenge to sonic 1 to about the time the child realizes ... you say?

Sonic 2 :P pleeeease?
That would be great. Time attack on which level? Setting challenges is a great excuse to replay some games or try out new ones.
Sonic 2 :P pleeeease?
No way, Sonic 1.
Challenge: How long can you last till you get bored of it because Sonic 1 hasn't aged nearly aswell as 2 or 3.
Mine'll probably be Marble Zone.

Hehe, ditto :P Marble Zone Act 2, I've only got past that once without falling asleep.
How about Chemical Zone on Sonic 2? :) its fast, furious and a real bitch.

I think if we did it where anyone could list any game they wanted and there times or score on them. It would probably need it's own sub forum like this. Don't know if that's needed really.

For a future game I recommend Mystic Defender. But, if people are getting bored of 16 bit platformers, I also think we should play a bit of Wipeout 2097 sometime now we have expanded the definition of retro to cover other generations.

Ah, Wipeouts a good choice. I was gonna suggest Ultima Underworld 2 but I could go for a racer.
So either Wipeout or F-Zero X
Oh man its gotta be F-Zero X, Big Blue FTW :P

Right people if there's no other suggestions I'll put up a thread for F zero x. I've only played this at a mates house though so my track knowledge is limited so any input on what track to try out on would be appreciated.
I did attempt Sonic 2 last night in an attempt to beat Blue puyo's time but frankly couldn't get anywhere near so Puyo's the champ for the first game competition. You win a round of applause.

You've made a mistake, WipEout is the best futuristic racer by far.

I could go either way to be honest with you. If people wanna go on Wipeout. Just post on here and we'll do Wipeout. If you want F zero , again make yourself heard.

Well one thing I thought would be in Wipeout's favour is you can get it for about 3 different consoles, Saturn, PSX, and PC, so it would be easier to get hold, most people will have on of those platforms, or you could even even rob a rom for an emulator to play on the PSP or whatever of you're that way inclined.
I was always crap at Wipeout so I'm totally Bias XD I vote for F-Zero X

I never saw this thread. O_o
So F-Zero (X?) and WipEout the next. Both are fine for me, I´m indifferent. =P

^ Everyone bow to the Sonic master *bows down*.
Im quite indifferent myself this week with the choices. Seems like these two are just gonna argue there case about what game we should try.XD

yeah this game i still have it on ps1 its goes all fast but its fun
F-Zero X cause it gives me the excuse I've been looking for to dust off my Wii.
Also because it's cheaper than WipEout HD (iunno I assume it's not much different to whichever WipEout was suggested).

That is an interesting game that. I liked it but I've not played it since it first came out. Don't know how well it would of aged. I remember how you could put your own music cd's in and it'll generate the level from that. I liked alot of dance music as a kid so it was just a stupid idea trying.

07-04-2009, 17:44
Yeah the game always seemed to get mad hard when you use your own music. I remember once I spent hours doggedly trying to beat I Can't Go For That by Hall & Oates, insensed with my constant failing, but it wasn't happening. Never quite liked that song as much since.

XD Man I bet not many people on here know that tune.
"No, I can't go that,oh, I can't go for that."
Two games I would recommend would be:
Sin & Punishment (N64) it'd be great to post high scores and as the new one is due out this year at least people will hopefully recognize the title. It would however, be a complete bitch to track down and play.
Super Mario Kart (SNES) a time before fucking stunts, drifting and corner boosting on straights.

Awww Wish I never asked now. There's only been 3 games suggested and I love all 3. I don't know where to start. I do like all 3 so I think Im gonna do 1 a week of these 3. I'll start with Mario kart.

Those are both excellent sugestions (if they haven't been used already). But yeah, Sin and Punishment would have to have an emulator exception if we had that game for one of the retro club games.
(I have...means to track down a game like that.)

It's on Wii Virtual Console, if you want to actually pay for it.
I might actually get it on VC, it doesn't seem the type of game that was designed to be played on a laptop keyboard :P
I have Sin and Punishment on the VC, fantastic game and one of the few N64 games I bothered to get on the VC. Bit more than normal N64 VC games, but worth it considering its rarity.

It's shameful, there still hasn't been a Saturn game done in this club yet.
Panzer Dragoon Zwei, let's do it.

^ I don't have a saturn myself and I tried emulation once and went prematurely grey from the stress of tryin but i'll put this up I think. If no-one has an interest in it I'll know for future. Great game though.

Hello people, just wondered if anyone had any suggestions for the next Retro club game. Anyone can make a suggestion. The games can be from anywhere from the Saturn/ psone gen and before. If you have any ideas please post a game on this thread or pm me.

Strikers 1945 2.
One of my favourite shmups; it's quite accessible and is out for loads of consoles.
Is it possible to do multiplayer/co-op games through emulators? We could do competitions or high score runs or something :3

I'd be up for playing against someone on retro games. Especially for when my PlaySEGA joypad comes through the post :D

The talk of World of Illusion got me thinking :P it'd be sort of fun, if it's possible that is >_>
Yes, back when the group first started, PNut, myself and a couple of others used to have joint playthrough sessions.
Maybe we could set up some sort of weekly event on here.

It is but it's kinda a hassle to get going.
Edit: or maybe not, KEGA Fusions seems to be pretty simple.

I think it could be quite cool. If you wanna play any of the games already done on the retro club, please do the threads aren't closed so just post on there asking if anyone fancies a game. If you fancy another game post on here and I'll get a thread up.
