I liked the idea's on the other thread about having Sonic 2 as the next game as quite frankly. It has aged better than the first one.
And I like the idea of a bit of friendly competition and I think Sonic's a great place to start so welcome to the first Radiosega retro game competion. Just to keep it interesting post your best times on I think.....
Chemical zone.
We can do a board and keep track of who's the best at each game.
I'll just put a link to sonic 2 info because you should all know enough about it.

Who will the fastest be?

Does a video count as a proof of the record? XD
Actually, I liked S2 (one of my first MD games. x3) and I've been eagered to replay it, but I've been busy with school. Now it's the time to do it. ^_^
EDIT: Oh yeah, giving it a 5. It's awesome, and beautiful. :D

I suppose a video would count fine. Never thought about it actually. I guess I was just counting on everyone posting there time and not lying bout it.
Can't wait to see how good everyone is.

I've only got it on saturn and gamecube, which brings up two problems, one being the obvious difficulties I'lll face convincing you guys my AMAZING TIMES are real and not made up, the other is that the PAL versions of the games famously ran slower than the Japanese original, so we should probably decide what region we are all using to keep it fair.

Anyone who isn't a prat will post an honest time, and I can't record videos V_V. Plus, I'll be using the official cart for this contest. So I can't use emulation slowdowns or any of that crap.

Good point french bread. It would make a difference, time wise because of there running speed. I think most people on here are from around europe though I think so I would opt for pal. Unless im totally wrong and alot of NTSC folk wanna chip in.
I'll be using the 360 version because I'm lazy :P
There's no real difference is there? I shall post my times for each zone >:3 prepare to be pwned
if it proposes a double challenge? Who finishes first on the first level (the Esmerald hill areas) and who finishes the entire game faster ... you say?

The idea was to see who's fastest on chemical zone, but anyones free to post any other times they get on other levels if they wish.
Ok, I have a little problem while recording, so, I'll try later. XD
But for now, my record at Chemical Plant (only Act 1, will time the whole level soon) is of 1:00:78 (Yes, I timed it while playing. XD) Not bad for a return to Sonic 2. :D
Recording this is making me want to punch a kitten, but I'm almost done.
Act 1: 0:50
Act 2: 1:39
I'm terrible at Sonic...
My current record for act one is 44 seconds -_- I got too frustrated to try for 43.
Haven't tried act 2 yet :D
Sonic 2 might be my fav 2D platformer ever made. Just can't stop loving it. And Chemical Plant Zone is probably the coolest Zone in the game.
Are we timing it after real seconds or the in-game timer? Cus if it's in-game I don't see why NTSC or PAL version would matter since everything (including the timer) is slower in the PAL version.
Tried the US version on a rom and managed to clear act 1 in 00.41 (In-game timer)

Letīs see what can I say of Sonic 2...
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was my first Sonic game that I played, I loved it back then. Altough, through the years, everything changed.
This game has great visuals, the designs of the stages are very good and also too linear, at least some of them. The stages are more interesting later. Unlike Sonic 1, you can feel more the speed here, a good improvement. And something that lacks, and Sonic 1 has, more platforming. The music is great, as every Sonic game. Something in particular I like, unlike Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles, Super Sonic has his own theme.
3 of my favorites zones
- Aquatic Ruin
- Casino Night
- Mystic Cave
3 of my favorites songs
- Casino Night
- Sky Chase
- Emerald Hill (2P)
Later Iīll play Chemical Plant and post my record.
And talking about Chemical Plant, personally I feel this stage very simple, the design isnīt too interesting, rarely the song fits well it seems. However, the sence of speed in this stage is really good.
So, I donīt know what this zone has, that people find it so exciting.
I could give this game a nice "4", but all these "5" are really intimidating. =P

Honestly, I don't think any stage back in the day had very interesting designs. Especially not if you consider that Chemical Plant is the second Zone of the game, right after Emerald Hill.
I do consider Chemical Plant more interesting than Marble Zone or Hydrocity.
Why people find it exciting? Mainly because of the speed. It has little enemies and so many parts where you just RUN, it's one of the fastest Zones in the whole series.
But also because of the music. And it IS fitting - Chemical Plant is, well, a chemical plant, lol. Some techno-ish music perfectly fits it.
What about the moment where the chemicals rise up and you need to hurry up? Or when you misjudge a jump and fall back in!!! :P terrifying as a kid, that drowining jingle was awesome.

That moment is very memorable for me too.

The only stage with I could compare Chemical Plant is Stardust Speedway.

Hm? How strange, I never said the music didnīt fit. =P

Done. Hereīs my times:
Chemical Plant act 1: 0:25 (video) (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=K93FLGPK)
Chemical Plant act 2: 1:15 (video)

Was very entertaining to record this. After many years, I think that Chemical Plant isnīt so bad, but it will never beat the greatness of Casino Night. =)

We just played through this on another board and it was fun even though lots of people complained that they did not like it.
