For me it has to be Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Such a huge game for the time, the story it had eas ace too, and it didn't need words on the screen to tell it!
Ice Cap Zone, Flying Battery Zone and the Doomsday Zone are bloody ace zones.

I'll second that. I can't believe Sonic 2 is generally the fan's favourite Sonic game - it's got nothing on Sonic 3!
Sonic & Knuckles is no doubt superior but Sonic 2 was the first Sonic game I played so it always has a special place in my heart.

At the minute I'd have to say my favourite game is Wonderboy In Moster World. Superb RPG platformer...but the final boss is proving to be a pain in the ass.
Other favs include Flashback, Gunstar Heroes, Quakshot, Moonwalker, Strider, Shinobi 3, World of Illusion, Road Rash 1 and 2, Decap Attack, Rocket Knight Adventures (anyone played the sequel?), Spiderman, Streets of Rage 1 and 2, Ristar, Ghouls N Ghosts, Golden Axe, Another World, Micro Machines 1 and 2, Vectorman, Shadow Dancer, Kid Chameleon, Zombies Ate My Neighbours, NHL 94, Madden 93, Sensible Soccer, Dynamite Headdy, Desert Strike, Speedball 2, NBA Jam TE.
There are more...but it'll take years to list them all.
Shining Force is on its way to me now, so hopefully I can add that to my favourite's list too. \o/
some of my favourites are castle of illusion strider golden axe gunstar heroes streets of rage 1&2 all the sonics desert strike road rash 2 ecco toe jam&earl alien storm quack shot world of illusion streetfighter and the original fifa! to name but a few!thats my 1st post on here!

Yeah I played the sequal to RKA...it sucked compared to the orig.
Has to be the original Sonic the Hedgehog for me. Although i loved the ones you listed.
Flashback, Gunstar Heroes, Quakshot, World of Illusion, Road Rash 1 and 2, Skitchin, Spiderman, Streets of Rage 1 and 2, Ristar, Ghouls N Ghosts, Micro Machines (all of), Sensible Soccer, Dynamite Headdy, Desert Strike, NBA Jam TE, Ecco, Ghostbusters (dont turn yur nose up i liked it ), castle of illusion, aladin, alien 3, alex kidd, chuck rock (the music in that rocked! esp the title screen one), mickey mania and as said by others many more.
if i had to pick one it would be Quakshot (played to the chuck rock soundtrack ^_^ ).
i love sonic3 to, as it has colourfull graphics and eye bleeding speed:biggrin: (or at least on my LCD TV, where he litilery the blue blur:P) i also love obscure games like ballz^_^
i recently got an asian megadrive and is there any imports anyone would recommend?
SegaMark

Just import for the box art I say!
Not sure what import only stuff, but Strider is a must! Nicer box art too, the western art is fugly.
Sonic 2 is so much better than Sonic 3 (& Knuckles) it's not even funny.
IMO.

Mark - Can you get this guy kicked off the forum? lol
Only kidding - I do agree that Sonic 2 is a great game, but Sonic 3 really took it on, and is, in my opinion, the perfect Sonic game.
Each to their own though, eh?
Just to add, although Sonic 3 & Knuckles is technically a better game as you can play though the whole thing in one go, I do like Sonic 3 on it's own as I prefer the music on it (remember S3&K used the S&K Title screen music, invincibility music, boss music etc, which was poorer than the S3 music).
SegaMark
17-12-2006, 00:24
What did it for me about S3&K was the way it told a story, the sheer size of the game and how it was all executed... The levels were brilliant huge things, and the game really is quite a long one!
Hyper Sonic/Knuckles FTW also!
Ah shut up! :(
I can't even get Super Sonic let alone Hyper....
Does Hyper Knuckles really cause shockwaves when he hits the walls?
SegaMark

Aye, it's awesome. :D
Hmmm... 2 or 3... I played 3 before I played 2... but 2 was different somehow. Not sure. Both really good, but the ability to save the game swings it for me I think... as a kid when the rents used to limit my play time, having no save option was a real bummer
the thing about sonic 2 is that the levels arn't big enough as because this was the first sonic to have spin-dash you just flew throught the levels
Oh yea, all except for "that bit" on Carnival Night Zone Act 2 <_<
the boss on that level is a nightmare at first and tails as about as helpfull as petrol is for putting-out fires^_^

Oh yea, all except for "that bit" on Carnival Night Zone Act 2 <_<
The bit that meant I didn't see Ice Cap Zone (without using the level select) for years? That was nasty.
(I assume you're talking about the gap in the ground covered by the thing that went up and down just after you turned the lights back on?)
i know what you mean as i've never been able to do that:( and to make maters worse the save feature on my cart doesn't work:ohmy:

You still can't do it now?
Basically, just press up and down as you go up and down while you're on the barrel. (See http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RsqvrXaZvk to see it in action)
Edit - Yep, just done it, and that is how you do.
P.S. I'd forgotten how difficult to do the Sonic 3 Level Select cheat was!

If we're talking great Mega Drive games, I have to mention Streets of Rage 2. The whole series was very good, but the 2nd game in particular was superb. If any game needs a remake, Streets of Rage does.
i have to mention micro machines 2: turbo turnament as it's fab with the simple controls and the grat gameplay:biggrin: unfortunetly my cartridge is a bit tempramental and i can seldom play it:(

there were alot awesome and outstanding titles on the megadrive / genesis system. i would say sonic and knuckles together with sonic 3.
it was just awesome for that time :)
But i have to say, that "rocknroll racing" was my favorite racing game on the megadrive.

I gotta go with Gunstar Heroes as my all time fave. That's the VERY first game I downloaded on the Virtual Console for the Wii.
As far as the Sonic games go, Sonic 2 was really cool for me. Mainly because it introduced my favorite Sonic character of all time, Tails!
For Sega CD, I gotta go with Snatcher. Simply beautiful. This is THE game that introduced me into Hideo Kojima. 30 minute ending left me in tears! This was the first game that made me think that games could be just more than games.
my fav megaCD title has to be road avenger 'cause of the animie style graphics and the cheesy intro movie:biggrin:
Golden Axe and Alicia Dragoon are my all time favorite MD titles
Gotta be Strider, its a classic and an early-ish release aswell,so even more of an accomplishment.
It's too hard to choose, there's too many Megadrive games I love! Such as:
Sonic 1, 2, 3 & K
Golden Axe
Streets Of Rage
Bonanza Bros.
Rocket Knight Adventures
Rings Of Power
Turrican
And many, many more.
Damn nostalgia.....

That game was AWESOME........easy one of my faves ( Magical flying hat that is.....why they had to wreck the european verion i'll never know. Lost all its charm. That just seems to be the way )
Best though hands down STREETS OF RAGE II ( or maybe Toejam and Earl.....ask me again another day ;-)
I think your question is hard as i loved Street of Rage 1+2, the Sonic Games, Virtua Fighter 2 (Even though it was just sprites) oh and Super Thunder Blade

My FAVORITE Genesis title was Sonic 2. I never liked 3, the sprites were too detailed, there were too many powerups, and S3&K was the start of the complicated Sonic games, and I prefer simplistic storylines.
Yeah, the US Sonic 3 art was dreadful, if I remember correctly..
Did Zero Wing come out over there in the UK?
If so, I will buy it from any of you guys.

Sonic 1. This game got me hooked when i was about 5. Used to play this at my cousins all the time. Then i got a megadrive later that year with sonic 2. Best day EVER!!!
Sonic 3 & Knucles or Columns, I can't choose.
But this will probably change lmater, because I don't have much Megadrive games.

There are too many favorite games but I really love "Gain Ground". It's one of the first Mega Drive games I ever played. I think it's awesome...
Phanstasy star series, Alisa dragoon, shinobi series.
I would have to say Ghouls N Ghosts for me ;) even untill this day its still a chalenging game to play  top stuff
Sonic was my first game and it will always be a classic!
Even if Sonic 3 was the greatest part because of Tails flying.
But my favourite game was definitly Shining Force, both parts.
That's why I still plan to by a Saturn!!

Once clipped together, sonic 3 & knuckled makes for what i think to be the best 2-D sonic game made. Amazing music and storyline, and my first visit to some of the levels is unforgettable. Undoubtably, the previous games are classics, but this truly was sonic's finest hour

A lot of people say that sonic CD was the best 2-D sonic made but i found it sort of didn't work. The time stones were a nice touch but it was ultimately just changing the palette. The special stages were a tad strange, with those flying ships. And the game was just too easy, i don't know if it's because i finished several other 2-D games before it but my first ever play of it i completed it without dying.

I would have to say Gunstar Heroes, it happens to be possibly my favorite 2D game of all time and is one of the best action titles of all time unarguably. Uhm, sometimes I might say Sonic 2, or Beyond Oasis.

It's an extremely close call between Story of Thor and Wonderboy in Monster World (aka Wonderboy 5 - Monsterworld III).
If I really, really had to pick one it would be Wonderboy.
I must say phantasy star 2 and streets of rage 2..has been rented alot back in the days where you could rent video games
I must say phantasy star 2 and streets of rage 2..has been rented alot back in the days where you could rent video games
You can't rent video games in Sweden anymore? I'm so use to going down to Blockbuster (too pricy) or renting games online from GameFly.com (http://www.gamefly.com/)
Nope they have stopped it...i do miss it though. Not sure how it is in bigger towns like stockholm though. can you rent old games in US? or is it just the newest consoles
can you rent old games in US? or is it just the newest consoles
16 bit or older.... No. I'm not aware of anywhere that lets you rent games from systems such as the Sega Genesis, Sega Master System or Super Nintendo or Nintendo Entertainment System. GameFly does have some older games for the systems they do support though.
In the Dallas area, I was pleasantly surprised to find a store called "Console Game Exchange" or CGE in the Stone Briar Centre (http://www.shopstonebriar.com) mall. This store actually had tons of boxed (used) SNES/Genesis/Sega CD/32X/Saturn/DreamCast/N64, etc. games. Its kind of setup like a rental store, but they don't rent games (I think). I never thought I'd see anything like that again in a physical store. No Radiant Silvergun though. :(
Some other stores, like GameStop (http://www.gamestop.com/) and Movie Trading Company (http://movietradingcompany.com), buy and sell used games and systems. I don't think they buy that much in old hardware and games anymore, but always seem to try and keep a minimal stock of NES/Genesis/SNES games and a system or two. Too bad their online sites don't show this much or reflect their current inventory.
I see..yeah Radiant silver gun is hard to get..would love to have it. Its really hard to get imported jap games here...there was one place before but they went down..got Phantasy star collection cheap there.

For me it would have to be Sonic 2, Streets of Rage 2 and Gunstar Heroes.
Streets of Rage 2, Sickest game on Sega Mega Drive. Also Spiderman was good to.
Sonic (all of them, can't choose one over the other!), and the Japanese import of Streets of Rage 3, Bare Knuckle! After the life of the MegaDrive you really can't end up with just one title, personally, I have all of the best titles, to me, lined up by "genre". ^_^

Sonic 3 & Knuckles for me. I'll never get borred of it.
Flashback...definitively Flashback:wub:
Obviously among the main games I loved for the Mega-Drive were sonic titles
but to Specify more cloesly;
Sonic 2
Sonic 3&K
That's the main 2, in that order.
Then I quite enjoyed;
Toejam & Earl
Street Fighter II
Very good games in my opinion.

Wow love topics like this it brings back so many memories of my childhood, locked away in my room on my mega drive when I should of been studying.
It was worth it though. gotta be the phantasy star's, shining force, street fighter, flashback of course, playing through it at the moment and still brilliant. streets of rage trilogy, the sonics, comix zone, gunstar heroes, thunder force 3 and many more. out of interest has any one played beggar prince on the mega drive? came out just last year. heard any verdicts?

I liked all the Sonic the Hedgehog titles. Sonic 3 & Knuckles was cool because you could be Hyper Sonic, Hyper Knuckles, or Super Tails which was weird. Not sure what was up with the flying yellow birdies. It was hard to collect all of the emeralds including the super ones. Why couldn't Sonic Team bring back these other super forms instead of just Super Sonic and now Super Shadow? And why can you only use them at bosses??
Anyway, I also liked After Burner, Alien Storm, Altered Beast, Alladin, Ristar, Toe Jam & Earl 2, Gunstar Heroes, Battletoads, Comix Zone, Ecco the Dolphin, Golden Axe 1-3, Mega Turrican, Outrun, Out of this World (or Another World), Prince of Persia, Shining Force 1-2, Puyo Puyo, Streets of Rage 1-3, X-men 2 Clone Wars, Vectorman 1-2, Space Harrier, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Rocket Knight Adventures, and Sparkster (or Rocket Knight Adventures 2).
I find it interesting that Sparkster was for both Genesis and SNES, but they were both kinda different.
I agree with a few of those games you've highlighted, in particular SOR2, Outrun and Gunstar Heroes.
My additions, in no order of preference, are:
Gynoug
Thunder Force 3 and 4
Ranger X
Super Thunder Blade
Revenge of Shinobi
Strider
EA Hockey
Madden 94
and of course Street Fighter II Champion Edition!
Hmm, if I had to pick just 1 Mega Drive game then I'd have to go with Bare Knuckle II.
Yakumo
My best Genesis/Mega drive games are:
Shining force 1 & 2 & Shining force cd
Phantasy star 2 & 4 the third one sucks!!!
Gaieres (great shooter)
Thunder force 4 or lightning force in the US
Snatcher (Mega/Sega cd)
Silpheed (mega/Sega cd)

God, where to begin?
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Streets of Rage 2

Mega Games I (the collection that brought my family together :) )
Shadow of the Beast
Shadow of the Beast 2 (Mega CD version is just... sex)
Mickey Mania (Mega CD)
Earthworm Jim 1 & 2

Castle of Illusion
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Streets of Rage 2
Earthworm Jim
Alladin
Gunstar Heroes
Dynamite Heddy
Ristar
Streets of Rage 2
Thunder Force 4
Sonic 2
