Here's a bit of info and pics of some handhelds Nintendo were working on, then never released. Looks like they've had a touch screen handheld in mind for awhile.

None of those would interest me personally.
Kinda....yawn....
The DS isn't really a novel concept though, when you look at the Game & Watch you can see they've had it in mind for years.

Ha yeah, I forgot about those. I had a donkey kong years ago when I was a kid. I think I opened it up and played with the insides to see how it worked. Wish I didn't now, there getting quite rare.
I have to say stuff like this is really interesting, its always nice to see what hardware developers are working on behind the scenes.

I agree with 7Force: It's interesting seeing different, unreleased concepts. Some I've seen made me think "Why didn't you release this (to my market, at least)?!" and some I've seen made me glad that they didn't release them.
In other words: Some were good; some were bad.
But back on the OP link, some of the ideas were innovative for it's time (1995-1998 according to the pictures). If those ideas were created in, say, anytime past 2002, the general market would be like "Why the f@#$ are you showing us this?" Well, it's a good thing they didn't release the "Atlanits," and Nintendo made up for the touch screen panel with the DS series.
