This choice is by Mr Killer french bread and is the "cult" classic Vib ribbon on the psone. Released in 2000 in Europe it was a vectrex style looking, beat rhythm game which had it's own j-pop soundtrack aswell as the ability to take the disk out and put in your own music cd's and play the game with those( which made it stupidly hard) Hre's some wiki info:

The object of the game is to guide Vibri along a ribbon filled with obstacles corresponding to the song being played. Pressing the correct buttons at the right time will let Vibri pass unscathed. Failing to do so will make Vibri degenerate from a rabbit into a frog, then a worm, and finally perishing for good. If enough obstacles are navigated successfully, Vibri's form is "promoted" to that of fairy princess. The game's score is represented by a series of symbols that accumulate as the game level progresses. A numerical score is generated at the end of the song. Depending on the score obtained, Vibri will sing a congratulatory song that gets longer with higher scores.
The game features four basic obstacles. They are blocks, loops, wavy lines and pits. Each obstacle requires a different button press to negotiate. For example, Vibri will successfully negotiate a block by climbing up it and jumping off the other side, or a pit by stretching her legs across it. Two obstacles may be combined into a more advanced form to create a total of ten unique ones. Where an obstacle is a combination of two basic ones, it requires two button presses at the same time, each corresponding to the button used for the basic components of the obstacle. For example, a loop can combine with a pit to make a loop with a pit in the middle (pit halfway through the loop, upside down).
In more difficult levels, the obstacles may move at different speeds, so the order the obstacles appear on screen is not necessarily the order that they must be negotiated. However, the player is never given more than one obstacle at once (with the exception of combined obstacles), despite the fact that multiple obstacles may need to be traversed immediately after a previous one. In addition, it is also common for the obstacles to appear on the opposite side of the line to Vibri (as if they were reflections in a mirror), and then switch around as they approach the character.

Cool, I'll give it a go tonight. It might take a while to relearn the controls though, the way to have to mix them up messes with you if you're a bit rusty.

How will the Americans get to play this btw? I bet they've never seen the likes of it before.

I bet most people on here haven't seen it top be fair. Your right it never came out in the states. There's many ways for them to try it if they look. Is hard though. It's not even availiable for download.

I can see this one being popular then. Oh well, I can always use this as a log for my endevours to finally beat Hall & Oates.

Ha yeah good luck with that. Don't let Hall & Oates beat you.

On a plus note to the game, it really is worth giving it a go to anyone that can try it. It's a really original little game.

I'm giving it a 3. Would be three and a half if I could. Decent idea and charmingly presented, but you can't get away from the nagging voice in your head admitting it's all a bit of a shallow novelty. The default music was doing my head in slightly too by the end.

I gave it The 4 but too be fair I probably gave it an extra point for it's original style.

Well with no luck finding an ebay or preowned copy I managed to get a rom -_- I'm hoping it'll still let me play my own tracks

Good point im not sure if that's doable. If I remember there is a way to click a button so the game your emulators playing knows you've opened your cd tray so you can swap discs. Have to check your emulator instructions as to how.

It's probably still worth playing the ROM for the songs that are already on the game, custom tracks are a bit of a mixed bag. You could always get the proper version some time in the future if you are really bothered.

I'm surpriesd there were none on bay though. I didn't think it was that rare, more generally obscure, like Fluid which you can get really easily and cheaply if you are determined enough.

I have the game and enjoy it, but even then I give it a "3." It's got a great unique style about it, and the original soundtrack is quite nice (Laugh laugh laugh... and peace!), but it's still just another Simon-variant. Swapping CDs can be fun for a bit, but it doesn't change the game too much. I never played the sequel nor made any great attempt to look it up to buy which I think says a good bit about the original.

There are currently six copies of Vib Ribbon available on eBay alone. Vib Ribbon was released in a lower priced edition, so it's pretty easy to find by import game standards.

A tenner for a beat up scratched to death copy :( I'll watch an auction but I'm sure the price is going to balloon.

I'd love to try my own tracks with it though...any game that lets you do that is just gold! Except Beats on PSP, it's awful.
