I've finally got a new Mega Drive MK II and I now have a quick question.

Does the Mega Drive has a scart socket? The SNES does, which has been a huge help! Would I have to tune my tv in every time I want to play?

You can buy RGB to scart cables on ebay. There by no means rare.

Would you mind showing an example, so I know what I'm looking for?

All I can remember is using the old ariel, which drove me nuts :P a scart would be ideal.

Excuse me for what may be an attack of noobyness, but isn't RGB the red, yellow, and white plugs? That one there would be an aerial socket, although I cannot remember the technical name.

RGB refers to any signal where the video is separated into red, green and blue components - rather than mixing them all together, like composite. SCART itself can hold a minimum of 3 different signals - composite (video mixed), S-video (video split into luminance (brightness) and chrome (colour)), and RGB (video split into red, green and blue), and some others on some hardware. RGB SCART is the best quality SCART you can get. SCART itself is the big, flat connector that everybody HATES TO DEATH and comes with most European TVs.

The thing you are referring to could be either composite RCA (3 cables, yellow for video, red and white for audio), or component RCA (5 cables, red and white for audio, green for luminance (brightness), blue for the difference between blue and luminance, red for the difference between red and luminance). This is not the same as RGB, since the video is encoded in a different (and slightly better) way.

Meeeeeeeeeellow

I'm having problems with this cable D: it arrived today along with the MK II. I have it all plugged up and the picture is distorted and bent.

I'm not sure what's wrong with it, I'm playing on my LCD monitor, would that have an effect?

The other thing is that it says it's an RGB Scart, however the Scart soctets I use are Red Yellow White, is that what's screwing things up?

That doesn't sound like scart sockets, instead it sounds like youve been given normal composite video cable. On that type of cable the picture is sent down the yellow lead and the left and right stereo channels are sent through the red and white cables.

There's a slight difference between poor display and completely faulty though, ne?

I mean, it being a little blurry or fuzzy would be fine, but the picture is totally distorted and meshed different colours (red and green)

I don't know what the problem is as it is a scart cable indeed. Personaly I've had an NES and a multi-mega connected to an LCD TV and the picture looked undistorted so mabe the cable or the magadrive is faulty?

There's another sega forum I go on that are stupidly technically minded when it comes to this stuff. I'll ask em on there, see what they say.

Checked back and most people on who i've asked seem to think your tv just might not like the old signal output from the mega drive through scart (ie: isn't compatable). Have you tried it on a standard tv at all?
