LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (May 28th, 2009) - SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® America, Inc., today announced Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing, a fast and furious battle to the finish line in this supercharged racer. Developed for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, the home video game system, WiiTM and the Nintendo DSTM system, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing will speed into stores in early 2010.
In a frantic battle to the chequered flag, Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing sees Sonic and friends speed around tracks set in mediaeval castle ramparts, lush rainforests and bustling cities, all taken from the visually rich and varied universes of Sonic and SEGA. Fan favourites such as Dr. Eggman, Tails, AiAi, Amigo and many more will join Sonic in their custom built vehicles, revving their engines and jostling to stay ahead of the pack. Each character will race around the track in cars, planes, motorbikes, and in AiAi’s case - a banana mobile! Secret short cuts, swift handling and avoiding strategically placed obstacles are certainly the best way to get to the top of the podium.
“Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing is no ordinary racing game. Its huge variety of characters and vehicles, plus the ability to play both online and off set it apart from other games of this type” commented Gary Knight European Marketing Director, SEGA Europe Ltd. ”The team have pushed the boundaries on what you would normally expect and created a different and unique party racing title whereby you really can’t take anything for granted!”
And winning is only part of the fun in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing! Each character has a specific All Star move such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado, allowing a quick way for competitors to get back into the race! Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition to ensure they don’t become a threat to that number one position…Players can battle it out in single or multiplayer mode, allowing up to four friends to race in frantic split-screen action, or up to eight players to compete online in the ultimate racing showdown.
Can Amigo scramble Dr. Eggman? Will AiAi say bye-bye to Tails? Are you gonna be faster than Sonic? The race will start in 2010… For more information please visit: www.sega.com/sonicracing (http://www.sega.com/sonicracing).
Here's the next SEGA game with all there characters from various games.
I don't understand why they would change "Superstar" to "All-Star" since it seems like a sequel to there superstar series, and adding Sonic's name to the title....i guess just to make it sell XD
Anyway i think it will be ok, i just imagine mariokart but with loops and more weapons.
I think it will be superior to SEGA Superstar Tennis.

I've already mentioned it in the News thread:
http://www.radiosega.net/forum/showpost.php?p=47291&postcount=655
But yeah, I hope this doesn't become too much of a habit and Sonic doesn't become abused by Sega as much as Mario is by Nintendo.
But why would Sonic need a car?!
The addition of Sonic's name to the title is probably in response to the criticisms that SEGA Superstars Tennis had levelled at it (namely the fact that it had too many Sonic characters in).
Still, the CGI trailer certainly looks good, and the initial batch of screenshots that SEGA have released look good too. Still, let's hold off til E3, because I have a feeling it might get shown off there, even though it wasn't on the list of games being presented.
Oh wow, I thought SEGA already stooped as low as they could, guess I was wrong.
Not really, it depends on who's on development duties. If it happens to be Sumo Digital, then we're in for a treat.
A mediocre racer with sega faces shoved in each car? I enjoyed Sega Tennis, I'll probably enjoy this but I just wish they'd divert funding and effort into someone more exciting, as opposed to a bland cameo filled racer. Like with tennis it feels like they're relying on kids and nostalgic sega fans.

Translation: Mario Kart? Hah why no we haven't heard of that game before, uh, ha.
Not gonna hold my breath on this being good, wasn't massively impressed with that shitty Tennis game.
Edit: Loving Eggmans monster truck though, might get it just for that.

I think it depends: Some of us joined this site because we stumbled across the site by accident and thought it looked like a nice place. The rest of us joined because we're Sega fans. Depending on which category you fall in will probably affect your reactions to certain things.

Well, when this is released I'll no doubt buy it and enjoy it. I did have a good laugh with Sega Tennis (mainly because I got it for about £8) this will probably be the same. I'd just hoped for something more inventive than the old cart game :/
They haven't done a cart racing game since Sonic Drift 2. Yes, it might pale in comparison to Mario Kart, but considering the other shockingly shite cart racing games that have come and gone since the SNES original, this could place in a very good second place, you know.

Heh, hearing the same (irrelevant) skepticism from the same people. There's a very speciffic joke I want to make, I don't have the right means to do so.
At any rate, I will keep a relative eye on this game's development. If it truly turns out to be an unworthy title, it's getting the Tekken 6 treatment -_-.
Ah, What the hell, I may as well:
* Dr. Robotnik - Rayne and Reknoc, SnooPINGAS usual I see!!!!
I have a good feeling about this game, i liked Tennis on my Wii, half of the things i remember, since i was raised on the N64, but having more characters into the series and other things makes me want to buy it (But i must swallow my pride with my friends when i said "I'll not buy a Sonic racing game in which he isn't using his feets to run") It looks funny, cool, and i'm hoping of Burning Rangers in some ways in the game.
That's what i think for now, but if the Wii version has Wi-Fi, count another version sold, SEGA.

Dont really care if the game is any good or not, more the fact Sega are rapidly turning into Nintendo for cynical cash-ins. Shame.
Shame that, other than Mario Party, Mario cash ins usually turn out above average if not surprisingly really good, and even with the bad ones you can be sure that at least the next main Mario game will be nothing short of fantastic. Sonic Tennis wasn't great by any stretch of the imagination, it was pretty poor which is surprising for the VT devs, and the next main Sonic game will no doubt be as shit as the last two.
However I do like cartoony racing games alot more than Tennis games, so I may pick this up, cheap.
Ironically I quite like the odd Mario Party game :P they're pretty fun.
I'll enjoy keeping an eye on this :D you know, at a tenner I'd probably get it for a laugh but unless I hear some astonishing reviews, I don't see myself rushing to buy it at full retail price.

Sega Tennis wasn't made by AM2 (the Virtua Tennis devs), it was made by Sumo, the people who ported VT3 to the PS3/360. Big difference. One team has made some of the greatest games of all time, another is a bunch of hairy fat people from Sheffield.
Well I'm gonna remain openminded about this one as it might turn out to be good. And besides all I want from this really is Ryo from Shenmue to be playable in this driving around on a fork lift now that would be awesome. Also the car from Daytona USA.
Maybe the Chao Car will return! (SA2 reference)
Or a FLiGHT Plane, Burning Ship, or Puyo Mobile...I can just image, the game has endless possibilities...Let's just hope Sega is making triple hard job to not make it another Riders...

What would Ristar drive though? Can't be a star cuz that's what Kirby does. It would be way better if the characters could just do their own thing such as flying or running and that depending on who you are, you could take different short cuts. But whatever Sega, do whatever the hell you want.

Remember there is no more Sonic Studios USA, so maybe the real SEGA japan is making the game, also, have you noticed the lack of actual Sonic Team Games (Samba de Amigo - Gearbox, Sonic Rush - Dimps, etc.) They are just using Sonic Team name...

Hope you get more car choices or something.
This needs more classic SEGA cars like one of the taxis form Crazy Taxi, that would be cool.
Also some gameplay footage.

from the look of the video it does not look like its running at a fast speed or running on the Out Run 2 engine which I thought when I first saw screens of this. But apart from that it does look ok. Also check out 2:41 Sonic does a crotch-grab taunt XD

Looks more the CTR than Mario Kart style actually.
Well to be honest, I think anybody trying to replicate Mario Kart is just asking for some serious amounts of trouble, even though my thoughts on that franchise are very low at the moment.
If Segata Sanshiro voiced by Hiroshi Fujioka is not in this game, I hate it.

In this video the new characters are Billy Hatchet, Beat, Knuckles, and Alexx the Kidd
And theirs still more characters to come :)
^ You could've edited your last post...
Anywho, I should be playing this in just over a week, so I'll let you all know what it's like :D
Same here Gav. have to say from what I've seen so far it does look pretty good, however I do hope they add more SEGA characters rather then more Sonic characters to the final line up however I'm pretty sure NiGHTS will be in the game but I would like to see more lesser known faces in there *prays for Ristar*

They say Knuckles was the last Sonic character, the remaining characters will not be from the Sonic universe so thats good ,wonder who'll be in it? Im sure Ulala and Nights are in.
Alex the Kidd was a nice addition also Billy :)

...why does sonic need a car...?
This question appears to making its way around the Internet a lot at the moment.
In a simple answer... It's a vehicle based racing game and so the characters have vehicles. Simple.
Why a car? I don't know. Could have been a bicycle, motorbike, segway, modified sofa... I don't know, but as he had to have a vehicle like every other character, why not a car?
Take the athletics at the moment. Wouldn't it be odd if the sprinters were running down the track and Usain Bolt drove a car?

23-08-2009, 02:36
But why does sonic need a car...?Geez, get over it! You could also ask the question, why Beat isn't skating or Aiai isn't rolling. Look at foreversonic's post for the reason.
Uh well done at ignoring the trailer as Aiai was clearly seen rolling in that, also Super Sonic was flying not driving. So the question is still valid, but would be more like "why do characters get related vehicles" like Alex Kidd and his bike.

An interview about the game and near the end of the video they say why Sonic is in a car if ya really want an official answer. Seems like they did try making Sonic run at first and also have Beat roll around on his skates but then theirs the questions like what would happen when they hit the cars and of course Sonic is to damn fast to begin with anyway it would be like cheating.
And the fact its a Car racing game! XD But hey in my Sonic Jam manual its says Sonic likes fasts things, so their ya go he might be into race cars

I understood why he was on a borad in sonic riders. Somewhere in the manual it said he's even faster in the air or something. But i guess your right. If he was on foot everyone would lose to him.

Cept Robotnik who can run faster than him.

If SEGA do a Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing 2 then that needs to be Sonic's vehicle of choiceXD
Sonic & SEGA All Stars Racing 2: Furniture Fanatics!
Think of the possibilities! Eggman could ride a stairlift, Tails in a bathtub, Alex Kidd ina toilet etc etc.

I bet Sonic Team would totally do it if someone wrote about it on a fanfiction site, since that's where they seem to get all their ideas from now anyway.
Sumo probably wouldn't though.

That's all of them, and the plot to Sonic '06.
So me and Mena played this today, 6 months ahead of its UK release date (February 2010).
I have to say that it's nearing brilliance. It's definately shaping up to be the best Sonic racer ever. The powerups are near enough direct ripoffs from Mario Kart, but that's OK as everybody rips the powerups from Mario Kart. The Superstar moves from SEGA Superstars Tennis also return. For example, Knuckles glides along the ground, pounding it to create shockwaves. Beat gets out of his car and sprays paint behind him, causing the vision of those who get caught in it to become rather blurred. Amy wields her Hammer, Sonic goes Super and just dashes off at speed etc etc.
Even though the game is still half a year away from development (stuff like D-Pad support hadn't been added as yet), I reckon this is very polished, and I heartily recommend that everybody gives it a go when a demo is eventually released early next year. But, if you get the chance to play it early, do. You'll be glad you did.

Which isn't hard as other Sonic racing games have been utter shit.
Still, it's a Mario Kart clone so I might give it a look since it's on a console that doesn't really have any Mario Kart clones.
Well, the version we played was being demoed on a PS3, and Sumo wouldn't let us take any video footage, so I'm afraid there isn't any :p You'll just have to take our word for it.
Oww, I have only seen the PS3/Xbox360 versions while I only have a Wii, I just hope it's a good game, but if someone like Gavvie it's giving a review-like thing, and a positive one, the game deserves a place in my Sonic Team Collection (I know it isn't made by Sonic Team, but that's how I call my SEGA games.)
but if someone like Gavvie it's giving a review-like thing, and a positive one, the agme deserves a place in my Sonic Team Collection (I know it isn't made by Sonic Team, but that's how I call my SEGA games.)
That's exactly the reason I'm considering avoiding it.
I played it while i was at SOS09 and for me the handling on the cars was a bit loose but the Sumo guys told me that it will be tightened up in the final version but so far I was pretty impressed with the game so far it was good fun to play so this will be appearing on my to buy list. Also I dont know who it was but I was playing as Alex Kidd and some girl behind me was going "sqeee OMG its Alex Kidd" that was pretty cool. It just goes to show you the power of old school SEGA, it makes you get all excited.
I thought this was awesome, but that might've been because Gav and I had the Sumo guys beside us giving us advice :P I think it's hard for any racing game like that to escape certain Mario Kart aspects to it, but it was different enough to not be a rip off.
Yeah when I first heard of the game I thought "oh no not another Mario Kart rip off" but after I played it it did not feel like just another Mario Kart type of game it felt different.

Erm, excuse me. Steve was trying to give me advice, but I was just showing off how good I was. I totally should've come first with Alex Kidd, and really thrown his comment about how "hard Alex is to control" back in his rather knowledgable face ^_^
He was quite hard to control but that was maybe because the code that was playable was not yet finished and the controls still needed to be fixed up. In fact I asked about them and the sumo guys said they are working on them to the point that they will feel like the controls you would find in a SEGA arcade racer (not his exact words but somewhere along those lines). I nearly came first with Alex Kidd but i crashed into a wall on the last turn of the Billy Hatcher track and ended up coming 3rd.
I think Alex Kidd is meant to be a bit hard to control though, because of his size and his ikkle bike. I would've loved to have played as Big though, such a shame he wasn't there :(

Yeah I heard the final count for the game is going to be around 20. I'm not 100% on that though.
How long till they just drop the SEGA All star part then?
Well, if they dropped that bit we wouldn't have Beat, Alex Kidd, AiAi or Billy Hatcher in the game :( NiGHTS is also rumoured as well, but I'm not 100% on that.
Tell you what would rock though: a Burning Rangers character with a modified Burning Ship as their car. Yes please :D
Well they should change the name to:
Sonic and all his friends no one even likes feat a couple of SEGA characters that aren't from Sonic Racing
It's alot more honest.

I think its looking pretty good if you ask me and a brave move on SEGA's part using faces from games that never made it out of Japan. I wonder if SEGA will use the main girl from Sakura Taisen in the game? Doubt it but would be a surprise.

I guess it really is a fine line between bravery and stupidity because I wouldn't call putting a character that no one outside of japan has heard of in a fanservice racer as brave.
Stupid as when Marth and Roy were put in SSBM, but least something good came out of that.

After watching some E3 footage of the game, it actually looks promising, like something that could rival Mario Kart. It just better not be plagued by "the Sonic camera" as I call it. You know, the same camera coding they used for the 3D Sonic games since the Adventure games. *shudder*

Yeah I am actually pretty psyched for this game, and speaking of the Wii version, am I alone in thinking it may look better than Mario Kart Wii? I'll be grabbing the PS3 version if the game turns out any good.
As I only have Wii, i'll be getting that version. It could be great if all the versions could connect on to play online, with each version showing what they can provide in graphics, that way, there could really always be someone to play with.
and ShoShoKid, you're not alone :)
^ With each console needing different netcode for their respective servers, that would be a monumental effort. Cross-platform play has only been done between 360 and PC this Gen, and that's only because they both run on Live.
I agree though, if there was a way to do it, it would be pretty awesome.

Not for a bargain bin SEGA kart racer :I maybe for some super epic game.
Not for a bargain bin SEGA kart racer :I maybe for some super epic game.
But even then the game would probably have a big enough audience on each of the consoles to not really gain any advantage from having cross platform online.
Wouldn't even be doable on Wii since Wii versions are pretty much different games.
I suppose the problem will always be the sheer petty attitude of gamers. You put PS3 & 360 owners in the same lobby and all you will ever hear is constant bitching. It's not worth it.
Yea pretty much. Doesn't seem like PC to console cross platforming worked too well considering Shadowrun pretty much bombed as far as I can tell.

Shadowrun was a big risk though. I don't know why big sellers like COD don't try cross platform play. It's not like they don't sell well..... just answered my own question. Why would they bother, they sell well as it is.

Well CoD couldn't because it uses Lives servers. EA might be able to do it possibly, since they use their own like SEGA.
CoD would work on 360 and PC because they can both use Live for online play, but you'd be cutting the PS3 out.

Yea but that would mean using GfWL which is meant to be abit shit. Least DICE seem to think so.
True. Ah well, this game should be pretty awesome online nonetheless, so long as it isn't amazingly laggy.
Well i thought OutRun online was pretty solid I'm pretty sure sumo will have some decent net code for the game.

A lot of people may already know this but Bentley Jones (aka. Lee Brotherton) has posted a preview of a new song on his youtube account called "So Much More" and theres talk of this being a song in the up coming game. According to Bentley on his official blog he said
"there's a BIG clue in the video"
At the end of the video you hear a sound of a racing car.

Could this be the games main theme? who knows, sounds good though.

Have you guys heard about what the founders of the NiGHTS community is going to do if NiGHTS is confirmed? You should know that the 2 founders of the site (Trippy and Digi) are planning to burn all their NiGHTS merchandise if he makes it in. That’s right… burn it! Every Sega fan knows how rare and expensive NiGHTS merchandise can be so you know their serious!

I've heard it and i think its pretty extreme if it was me i could never burn my collection even if NiGHTS does make the cut. I hope they were only joking about this.
Now I hope he makes it just so they burn their stuff.
Now I hope he makes it just so they burn their stuff.
I want NiGHTS to make the cut but i dont want them to burn all there stuff because of it. I dont think this is something you can make a joke about i mean I myslef am split down the middle of this, one half of me thinks its dumb to do yet the other half of me thinks its a brave thing for them to do. All in all they have my respect.
Even though i'm not a big NiGHTS fan and have never played the first game I did enjoy JoD on the Wii even if many fans clame that Iizuka-san fucked it up I still think NiGHTS derserves to be in the game.
Would have been braver if they burned their stuff in protest of him not being in it.
Edit: Otherwise it's just like being that weirdo Japanese kid who burned his Tales of Vesperia when the PS3 version was announced.
Only funnier.

Nah, the topic didn't interest me enough. To be honest I rarely click on links to videos around here unless it looks like it's going to be something absolutely fascinating.
I thought people wanted Nights in there. Why are these people threatening to burn their stuff?
Well apparently Digi says he knows full well that NiGHTS wont be playable in the game and him and TRiPPY says that if they are wrong and NiGHTS does make the cut then they will burn all there stuff.
It is quite extreme but he says he is certain that NiGHTS is not in the game so really the whole point now is to raise awareness so that SEGA see that there is a NiGHTS fan base and that we want him in the game as future DLC. Now I have big respect for these guys but I’m taking Digi’s confirmation with a pinch of salt, as I want to wait for official confirmation from SEGA on the subject.
A work in progress boxart was leaked the other day for the Xbox 360 version. Seems to reveal that Banjo and Kazooie are going to be format exclusive characters.
Here it is:
http://sonicstadium.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/SSASR-Xbox-360-box-art.jpg
So, Ratchet and Clank for the PS3 version? I remember reading something about character exclusives.

If they add in non-SEGA characters then surely they will have to change the game's title?
Not really. Mario Kart Arcade's name stayed the same, yet it had Pac-Man in it, and no reference to Pac-Man was made in the title.

Yeah, but the name of this game is "Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing" Mario Kart only gives the name of one character which you'd expect to be in the game. But this gives a specific mention that it's Sonic and SEGA characters in the game.

Well no because "Mario" refers more to the series and characters from the series.
The argument you provided for Mario Kart stands for Sonic and SEGA All-Stars. That just tells you that you'd expect Sonic and other SEGA mascots to be in the game. Format exclusive characters are just going to be format bonuses.
Anywho, I'm also expecting Ratchet and Clank to be in the PS3 release, and I imagine Mario'll be in the Wii/DS one. Must say though, they missed a trick with the 360 release. It would've been quite funny to see Master Chief racing around in a Warthog...

Really? Have SEGA explicitly said that there won't be any bonus characters on the other versions? Or did you just take the phrase "...only on Xbox 360!" line on the trailer a bit too literally? That could have referred to the avatars and Banjo being 360 only, after all they're both made by rare which are owned by Microsoft. The Wii version could end up with Miis instead of avatars and I doubt they'd want to loose their "Mario & sonic" marketing tool.
Edit: Sorry, that sounds a bit aggressive, doesn't it? I didn't mean it to sound like that.

Exactly! You never know what may turn up as a surprise! To quote the lyrics of that famous Journey song: "Doooon't stop! Be-liiiivin'!!!!!" The world would be a much better place if we were all a bit more positive. ^_^
The first mention of platform specific characters was on that leaked press thing with Sony so it would be weird for them to only do it on 360.
Well, BK being in it gives me another reason to get an Xbox360...
By the way, it would be strange that only Xbox360 gets an exclusive character; I would play with my Mii or Captain Falcon :P, or on a PS3, maybe Ratchel or Jak.
But I hope that these exclusives don't take the spot that a Sega Superstar could have.
The first mention of platform specific characters was on that leaked press thing with Sony so it would be weird for them to only do it on 360.
Yeah, and that mentioned "Rare and Fable universes". It didn't explicitly say that Sony would be getting some as well.
Still, we'll see. If there are going to be any announcements, they'll be done soon I imagine.
http://sonicstadium.org/news/ulala-and-bd-joe-confirmed-for-asr
Ulala and some crazy taxi berk have been confirmed :) now we just need NiGHTS
Don't forget that you can import your Miis into the Wii version as well, leaving the PC, PS3 and DS versions as the only ones without any exclusive characters.
There's also apparently four more characters left, at least, to reveal. NiGHTS could be one of those.
I hope if just because I want those guys to burn their stuff.

Also on the games website under the All Star Move section it lists Jacky from Virtua Fighter playable. Also it lists Downloadable characters are coming too the Xbox 360 maybe as an exclusive.
Also Steve Lycett from Sumo the games producer has given us more info about the game.
- You can play your own music during gameplay on the Xbox version but not on PS3.
- The DS version contains an exclusive Crush 40 track(track as in music of course)
- You can influence the colour of one vehicle in the game though Steve doesn’t state which vehicle.
- Snaking isn’t possible
- Sumo Digital’s network model should prevent cheaters/hackers though this can’t be 100% guaranteed.
- Some platforms will have downloadable time trial ghosts and all versions will all be able to save local ghosts.
- Only Xbox 360 and PS3 versions support voice chat via headset.
- Steve Lycett’s favourite track is Lava Lair using tree tops for drifting. Steve says “you’ll see why”
- The game starts with things locked, then you have to earn Sega Miles to buy new content in the Shop.
- Every version but the DS version has some very difficult Ghost cars from the track designer to beat.
- Steve’s favourite playable character in the game is still Big the Cat and one character he can’t talk about yet.
- Controls plan for the PC versions is for keyboard or game controllers.
- Steve can’t touch the topic of PS3 exclusive content right now.
- When asked about a Thank Your For Playing screen at the end of the game Steve says the game does say Thank You For Playing but that’s all he can say right now.

Probably either PS3 or 360, bur I'm waiting to see if any more exclusives are announced first. To be honest I'm not a huge Banjo-Kazooie fan so it's still up in the air for me.
Could be either for me, depends what kind of fanboy mood I'm in. If everyone here gets it on one platform I'd go for that. I'm leaning toward 360 if it had Banjo <3
I've preordered it on 360, though the PS3 build I played at SoS wasn't bad either.

He forgot a number of other reasons, he mentioned characters but the real reason it's better is because this game isn't just focused around Mario and his series and the roster is larger.
He also forgot to mention superior On-line integration and graphics.
Wow so the demo came out today and I've given it a go. I really wanted to like this but I just can't. To be fair you can only play as Sonic or Banjo but neither of them felt "right" it just doesn't feel good. Shame as the music and graphics are pretty decent.
It was never going to be better than Mario Kart but I was hoping at least for it to be close but eh, I'll pick it up when it's cheap.
Edit: Also the announce is annoying and I personally want to strangle the guy who did it and the guy who thought it was a good idea in the first place.
Had quite a bit of fun with the demo, even though there is some frame rate slowdown (from what I read it's non existent in the final version, as the demo is not the final build). I hope they release a PSN version of the demo, with the Playstation 3 being the lead platform and all.

I gave the demo a go and thought it seemed decent enough. I thought the handling was ok and the AI seemed competent enough. The graphics looked nice and crisp and I got too see Ryu in a new game which was nice. Not sure it's the sort of game i'd run out and buy on launch though. Probably a second hand buy I think.

I finally downloaded the demo last night. It took almost all of my remaining Xbox hard drive memory. 1Gb download has just about drained our months worth of bandwidth as well :(
I only managed to get 7th and 8th (oddly, one 2nd) in the advanced mode before I remembered that there was an option to change it to basic.
I had trouble round the corners. I half expected it to drift like the Outrun series but instead it feels more like a time-sensitive feature, unless I'm doing it wrong which is not surprising.
It was easier to win in basic mode though.
Pretty good game I thought overall.
It may have been discussed above, but if not, which platform do you all intend to buy it for?
Myself, Xbox 360 but I'm also tempted by the Wii version for multiplayer to go with Mario Kart Wii, and use of the Wii Wheel, and the DS for on the move.
360 for Banjo. Getting it on the Wii or DS never even crossed my mind since Mario Kart is much better it wouldn't be worth it.

I had trouble myself at first. I was trying to drift round the turns and wasn't making them all. Then I thought i'd try and go round the track without drifting just to see what it was like and you can zip through the turns anyway without drifting which made it lots easier. Also made the drift sort of redundant.
You get a speed boost if you drift long enough.
I've not given the demo a whirl yet myself, haven't found the time to get the Xbox downloading the demo, but I've heard a lot of favourable things about it from people who played the Alpha build at SoS09.
Might have to grab it over the weekend or something, if I can pull myself away from LEGO Rock Band/BioShock 2 for long enough.

Lego Rock Band? WTF, Gavvie. WTF.
It was £16 for the PS3 version, and Mena wanted to play it with me.
Besides, it's pretty fun ^_^ Plastic men playing plastic instruments.

I LOVE the demo!
For people having trouble with drifting I'm kind of confused it seems easy as pie! Just think of it as you would drifting in OutRun... the only difference is simply that you have to hold down the left stick to drift, not just tap it.
If you want to change drift direction let go of the drift trigger, slap the analog stick to the opposite direction and push down the drift trigger again... It can be done in a split second.
It takes maybe one or two races to get used to it. After that I was drifting crazy, I even drift though the loop!
Official Nintendo Magazine reviewed both the Wii and DS versions of the game and gave them both 75%. They said there was great fun to be had but the multiplayed lacked spark and also said the Mario Kart Wii does everything better.
75% is not a bad score but to tell the truth ONM's reviews I feel are kinda random so for me I want to wait and see what EDGE and Games TM give the game. EDGE seemed to really like it when they previewed the game last and Games TM were still not sold on the game but I think they did say that the preview code they played was good fun. But then these may have been the 360/PS3 versions they tested so those may be the better versions of the game.
Oh and I still not had a chance to play the demo as I'm not a Gold member and have to wait for it to be on Sliver.:(

Oooh, italic-y.
I've always thought ONM were a tiny bit biased towards products made by Ninty and since this is competing with one of Nintendo's main franchises (And one that they've been advertising non-stop on Wii since it's release 2 years ago) I'd take it with a pinch of salt.
You don't trust ONM so you'll wait for a review by EDGE? Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Edit: Not that ONM's reviews are good, anything that isn't made by Nintendo/Square seemts to always get <60%. EDGE are worse though, they're so arrogant, they'll blurt out pages of complete tosh then pick a number out of the air and print.

Oh no I trust anything EDGE says I'm just intersted on what they give the game.
Actually, re-reading that. 75% sounds like a pretty fair score for a Sega Karting game...that's what I hoped for when I first heard it had been announced anyway :) it was never going to be Mario Kart but it should be fun.

It's better than Mario Kart. Anyone who says otherwise is one of 'them'- one of the Nintendo gestapo out to ruin the Sega reputation. I haven't even played the game and I know this.

While the N.F.F (Nintendo Fanboy Force) might be a factor in review scores and the public reception you still can't make an opinion of a game without playing it first.

I had a blast playing the demos for the 360 and DS, I really did! I wouldn't say it's better than Mario Kart though. In fact I'd rather say this game has an identity and charm of it's own! Although, I had more fun with the DS demo than the 360 one. For sure I'll pick up the DS version first and maybe the Wii version later, I'm gonna wait and see if DLC for the 360 has something interesting...maybe Vectorman? XD
Can't wait to rev it up with Billy Hatcher and those Chu Chus!!

Well I've got the latest issue to GamesTM in front of me and they've given the game 5/10 stating it is 'Nice enough, but ultimately it's already been done better'.
Games Master were much more favourable giving the game 83%, with their opinion being that it is 'The best kart racer on 360 and PS3, but not quite the Mario Kart-beater we'd hoped for'.

Well, I would rather treat the game as it's own entity rather than be forced to think about a different game the whole time I am playing, but that's just me.
BLANTANT EXAMPLE, if I'm playing Disgaea, Ar Tonelico, or Persona, I don't think about some series like Final Fantasy.....I just play the game that I am playing and treat it as such without having to think something like "hey, this game has no ATB, bawww". It exagerating a bit, but it proves a point.

ROFL! Sometimes I wonder if he's even watching the race and just spitting random comments. And I agree, get the drifting down and you're good to go. I found it much easier on the DS. And IDK if it's just me, but those turbo-boost items seem to last a lot longer in the DS version. Hum!

True it should be praised on its own merits. I dont trust Games TM's reviews anyway, I mean this is the same mag that gave Black Knight a 8/10 and Sonic Rush Adventure a 5/10.
I've played the 360 demo and I think its pretty good fun even though its a very small part of the game. Also the DS demo is on the Nintendo Channel now. got to say I'm impressed of what Sumo have got out of the DS hardware with this one.

I'd love to have gaming mediocrty because developers don't think they have to try to beat competition. Mario Kart and this have similar themes but slightly different execution, they're obviously going to be compared just as the new Medal of Honour will be compared to Modern Warfare 2.
For your example, when I play Disgaea I think of Valkyria Chronicles because it turned a stagnating genre upside down and made it awesome and when I play Persona I do think of Final Fantasy because of how much better Persona is.
Did the game deserve a 5/10? Who gives a fuck, numbers are terrible anyway the quote is what mattered and if it's the case (and from the demo it is) then fair point, for the Wii version, for the 360/PS3 where it hasn't "been done better" then from the demo it's a pretty decent game.

Ya know, I was actually afraid the media would be comparing it to Mario Kart. Oh joy, I can't wait to see what X-Play/Game Informer says...

Quite a lot of skepticism, understandable though I guess. It's hard not to compare it to Mario Kart, it's the best cartoony racer out. Crash Team Racing wasn't quite as good and Muppets Racing wasn't great. GamesMaster Magazine compare it to Mario Kart and for that reason it sounds great. I am a big Sonic and Sega fan though so maybe my decision to buy this is a little biased.
I was interested straight away but truely impressed when I saw Ryo, I'm glad he's not been forgotten in that cave. Shame Nights is just the flagman though and B.D.Joe is the racer for Crazy Taxi, I'd rather play as Axel. The references to other Sega games whos characters and levels arent featured in the game will impressed many old sega fans, such as a trophy named "To be this good takes ages".
I'm hoping some DLC for this game aswell, it would be nice to drive on an Outrun level, with the classic Yellow or Red car and the guy trying to impress his girlfriend. The torrain could change with every checkpoint just like in the arcade original.
As for which console I'm thinking to get it for the ps3 as thats my most prefered, but the wii motion controls and Banjo 360 exclusive are tempting enough to make the decision a difficult one.

Well, I had my copy of the game come through today and I have to say that so far I love it!
The graphics are fantastic, the courses are pretty cool (though being a SEGA guy, of course I'm going to like them!) and it's really good fun to play. I wasn't sure about the game based on the demo (I only bought the game as I thought it would be good fun online) but it's plays really well, and I'm looking forward to getting more gametime in over the weekend!
Can someone tell me how the Wii version is? I only have a Wii, and I want to know from SEGA fans that it's worth (or it is just my fanboyish SEGA love?)
The game looks sweet, so far, the only complain I can really think of is that there's little variety of franchise's on the tracks...

I've got the Xbox 360 version, so can't directly comment, but I'd have thought that the core of the game would be pretty similar.
On the track issue, you are kinda right, not a huge amount of franchises are featiured even though there are loads of tracks - there are a lot of Sonic tracks for example. However, there is certainly some variety even inside specific franchises. I've can recall playing four Sonic tracks so far, of which one is Sunset Hill from the demo (ala the first level from Sonic Heroes), two tracks based on the casino levels from Sonic Heroes, plus one industrial type track which I don't directly recognise from the Sonic universe, but it's very cool all the same.
Plus, the first Samda de Amigo track is awesome in ways that cannot be described. It was at that point I fell in love with the game - I haven't smiled like that in ages!

The Wii version is pretty good and a lot of fun in multiplayer. The graphics are good and the soundtrack is amazing. The Wiimote has a good response, so gameplay doesn't suffer from it. I've only played with the Wiimote, so I can't comment on other control schemes.
All in all, if you're a fan of Sonic or SEGA in general this game is definitely a good buy.

It's great. I'm really enjoying it, me and my brother stayed up all the first night we had it just racing each other non-stop. I was impressed to see some Sonic R tunes featured in the shop to unlock aswell. I've got most of it all now, I think I need one racer, and two music tracks, pretty easy to unlock and the missions are pretty easy to get an A rank on, actually only needed to play a few more than once to get AAA ranks, which tbh I like because it doesn't need a whole lot of commitment to unlock stuff, also with the missions being pretty easy and simple I can safely say this is a Sonic Game you won't get frustrated at easily.
However Nights isn't a playable character (big mistake there, he's one of Sega's best) and the Outrun guy and girl aren't in it. So there are some downsides to the game...
I'm really enjoying it though and I'd recommend it, best for co-op play ofc.

Well....no. None of us are going to play it on PC :I unless someone wants to prove me wrong.
Got it on the 360 the other day though a few little niggles here and there this is a really fun little racer.
Oh and not sure if anyone here knows yet or if its already been posted but S0L said that DLC is on its way :)
You’ll hear more about DLC very soon. I don’t want to steal SEGA’s thunder on this. But you’ll be seeing some sooner than you expect – and it’s AWESOME. I’ve just played it :)
Please make Ristar playable in this DLC, oh and NiGHTS. Also some tracks based on other SEGA games would be nice too ;)

Just thought i'd pop it on here incase there are any pc gamers. This is £11.93 with free delivery on thehut.com. I think you also get a quid off your first order so not bad really for a spanking new game.

Yea the PC is dirt cheap, which makes up for the lack of online play.

Been reading the Wiki for this game, there are some cool DLC possiblities, such as Toejam and Earl, Vyse from Skies of Arcadia and Nights! I hope those guys do make it if there is ever any dlc. I like to see Nigel and Friday from Landstalker too, not sure what they'd ride on though.
