hi all...new member here! really impressed with the site, nice selection of tunes to bring bak all that nostalgia haha...

never really bothered with posting on boards etc, but i'm pretty passionate about videogames/history, and particularly fond of the early SEGA consoles that i grew up with (from the MS to MCD), so i thought i'd sign up and join in all the fun!

right well lol, my first post: Night Trap on the Mega-CD!

this was definately 1 of my fav games for the add-on that came out...yes i was lumbered with the not so successful machine after begging and begging for weeks (i saw the promo vid that came with some UK videogame magazine? and it looked awesome!), only to find games were then few and far between...bad times...from the promo vid, NT was definately one of the games that caught my eye...to me, with no experience of decent computers of the era (i.e amiga etc), i had no idea how grainy the video used in MCD games was in comparision...lol this was the 1st time id seen video used in a game in this way and 2 me it was spectacular! haha

the game itself was just pure b-movie trash, but it's so bad, it's actually really funny and i found myself just wrapped up in the cheesyness of it all (lol i always remember the line "hi eddie, bye eddie, ohhhhh and let us know wen u wanna die eddie"...haha man wat a script)...

i'm curious how others on the board rate this title?...from articles, interviews etc over the years (lol it crops up more often than not in regard to the whole game classification controversy), i've noticed it seems to be a bit of a love / hate relationship! with some of the haters even giving it 'the worst game ever' crown!

i personally loved the game, and it was up there with final fight cd on the top of my favs for the system...looking bak from today's perspective, i'd even go as far as saying that NT (and perhaps some of the other video related titles? - never played them tho i hear GZT is pretty good?) was ahead of it's time, in the way in which it attempted to deliver a cinematic style experience in a videogame! sure the medium was never going 2 work but the idea was there, and look at today's games (i need only mention MGS5!)...

while NT (and perhaps some of the others), were originally developed for another system, i thank it's inclusion in the MCD library, where it provided a unique experience that i'm sure many gamers up until that point had simply not encountered b4 :)

*lol and can any1 remember the UK magazine that had the free MCD promo vid i mentioned earlier? megatech/cvg perhaps? it's going bak a while!

I couldn't stand FMV games, as such I never owned a Mega CD. I have seen some clips of this game though and to be honest it looks as bad as the rest of the CD's library.

Firstly welcome to the site, glad you enjoy it. Personaly I love Night trap. Easily one of the best movie games on the mega cd ( though that's not saying much now that I think about it). I spent a long time looking for all the bad guys and writing down the times and rooms I saw them in. Eventually I managed to get every bad guy and was dissapointed by the 1 extra line the girl says at the end for your efforts. Classic game though. I still remember the girls in the living room "lets party" then dancing round like tits and bein weirded out by a vampire trying to look scary wearing suglasses.

EDIT: Just seen your post Rek, Night trap I think is one of those games thats so bad it's good if you know what I mean.

I saw footage of this game, never wanted it after that =P. Looked awful.
Like Rek, I'm not a fan of FMV games to be honest. I think this was something way ahead of it's time. Needed more script etc.

What's wrong that? Oscar winning acting thereXD

EDIT: Just noticed looking at that, that's not the mega cd version. I think it's the cdi version looking at it.

tx 4 all the responses....i agree that FMV games looked awful (and most of the FMV games that i remember were equally bad), lol they haven't aged well either! but i believe NT (/ & that style of game) is still a noteworthy game for concept...just like the MCD itself, the ideas were ahead the time and technologic limitations...for the members who didn't own a MCD, ur probably the lucky 1's, it was my 1st experience of being stung with a failed system, infact i got out of the console game after that until the N64 and ocarina's release (never even bought another sega machine - though the dreamcast would probably have been the only worthwhile choice after the MD's reign).

To the members who did get lumbered with the MCD, what were ur fav titles? Not sure if there are many non UK owners on the boards? as that may change the list slightly, as i know there were games that came out in the US that never saw the light of day here....

and haha RD, yeah i think that scene of the game just sums up the quality acting on offer ;) though yeah is the cdi or pc based version...meh now if if only u cud get an emulator that would run the 32x/MCD version (& find the ISO!)

After seeing that, I'm tempted to bring Picard into this conversation. He'll have a few words about this, I'm sure. Or a single gesture.

That scene, combined with the name, leaves me very, VERY, worried about the rest of the content. But then maybe I just lurk too much.

I thought it was a pretty good idea for a game but it was quite badly executed

BTW I found the Japanese version.

Try watching the whole game. I'm going to post hotlinks because I don't think 4 YouTube videos in one post will look good.
