What are one of the first games you remember playing when you were young?
Honestly, I don't really rememeber, lol. The earliest games I can remember playing were on the PC. They were Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen, and Doom. Of course, they were just demos but still fun.
Hmm... the first game I played was Alladin on a PC my dad brought home from college probibly.:)
PS: is the PC version of alladin the same as the one on the MD as I really miss that game and I want to know if the are the same so I know wheather to buy the MD version or not!:(

Before I owned any game consoles the earliest game I remember playing was a Space Invaders cabinet on a ferry to the Isle of Wight. I remember play Castle of Illusion starring Mickey Mouse on my uncles Mega Drive before I owned one (I remember being scared shitless of the bit where the giant apple rolls down the hill after you!). Then when I got my Mega Drive it came with 2 games; Sonic 1 and Mega Games 1.

It may sound strange but my first memory is PONG! That's right!
Later, I my Mega Drive and, like sonicyoda's, it came with Sonic 1 and Mega Games 1 (the memories of playing Columns and Hang On...).

I remember when I was young when I'd use to always go by arcade machines and look for coins. I also loved it when there were playable game demos in stores and I would go straight there and never wanted to leave.
The first game I ever played was Sonic the Hedgehog on the good ol' Mega Drive ^_^. Granted, I was playing it in 1993-ish, and I was born in 1991, so I couldn't get past the first boss...

Games... I remember playing pacman and a Sonic game for the original game boy, but early on that's all I played until I got a job.
A Sonic game for the original Gameboy? Must be one of those rubbish hacks, such as Sonic The Hedgehog 6(Info here: http://www.sonic-cult.org/dispart.php?catid=7&gameid=6&subid=1&artid=1).
Going way back I think the first game I ever played was Pac Man in a holiday night club back in 1985-86 while I was in Spain.

Wow, playing video games as early as 2 huh? I think I was like 6 at that time and I don't think I even knew what a video game was.

Ha ha, a sonic game based on Speedy Gonzales? That's pretty strange, but interesting.

Hmmm. Which is more likely...? The Speedy Gonzales hack or a case of mistaken identity.... By any chance was your Sonic game in color?
http://www.radiosega.net/images/posts/31480395.jpg
Ah, I never thought he may have meant a Game Gear! But the hacks are less unlikely than you think - I've had a few hacks before (can't find them now though, but I only bought them out of curiosity) and I saw a GBA hack in GAME in Bournmouth this summer! They're pretty common nowadays.
And it was only luck I started playing when I was 2 years old - we got given a Megadrive by some friends of my parents ^_^. Infact, I still have that very same Megadrive - although it's currently under my bed (no where to set it up :().
First I can remember is Alex Kid on the Master System, after I got a Mega Drive and Sonic, that was me. The ball started rolling, wouldn't stop playing Sonic, started reading the comics, buying the bed covers, curtains, books, I even still have a Sonic cardboard cutout I got from a computer shop when Sonic Adventure first came out, broken around the knees area but easier to store it away. While Alex Kid is the furthest I can remember back, as you can tell it really started with Sonic. ^_^

Wow, that's pretty lucky. I wish I had that earlier when I was young. I didn't get a megadrive until years after I got the sega dreamcast. But I always played it through emulation on my computer. :P
Also, how can hacks be commercially sold?
Ah, I never thought he may have meant a Game Gear!
Well he did say "original game boy" so you'd think he got it right. Not like they made a Game Gear slim... Mmmmm. That would have rocked. XD
Also, how can hacks be commercially sold?
Flea markets usually (at least in the United States). I would suspect that its easier to buy hacks locally in other countries. They are pretty good at cracking down on illegally produced copies and unlicensed content being sold in a public situation in the United States. I still think its more likely to find counterfeit Yu-Gi-Oh cards than unlicensed hack video games around here...
Also, how can hacks be commercially sold?
I seriously have no clue - GAME is on of the biggest video game chain stores in this country! It could be to do with that fact that the case has the Sonic Advance cover on the front - although the should be able to tell it was fake, all the colouring was smudged and blurred, the case was made of the wrong materials, and the rating on it was the ESRB (American) one, so it's probably due to the fact that the people working at the stores were idiots.
Hmm, interesting, how old were you?
I might have screwed the date up it might have been 87 or 88 it was so long ago:unsure: I think I was 4 or 5 when I played it.

Wow, if I ever saw hacks in a store, i'd probably report it. Or if the guys are idiots there, then maybe I'd pick up the hack and ask if I can sell it there. I'd say "look, I made my own version!"

It would probably be to much of a copy if he could do that, a health bar wouldnt be bad or maybe the points system which wasnt used for anything. Sonic uses it for 1-up's mario doesnt so maybe he could use that for health and you die when it goes to zero.
Well Mario did come before Sonic, since Sonic was born in 1991. Although I have to admit, the rings were better than the mushrooms. Mario cartoons were good but the games could have used a bit of an easier way of working with them. :)

I remember [...that was a really long story, but...] my father bought Japanese Sega Mega Drive 2 bundle with Sonic 3.
So StH3 was my first for the genesis. And this console was my favorite.
but the very first videogaming system I owned was [Dendy]. Yeah that's really funny. At the age of 7 I didn't even suspect it was a hacked version of NES. I really liked that system too ) Favorite games were Super Mario Bros., Pizza Cats, Rod Land, Mitsume ga Tooru and so on... The first game as I remember was "Terminator 2: Judgment Day"
I sold Dendy when my new Mega Drive arrived :)

The first games I played where the commander keen games, all seven full versions of them for the PC (including Keen's dreams) which is probably the first thing I remember in any depth so I was around 4, maybe 3 or 5. They where awesome! Unfortunately they cancelled the series before 3 new games where in development (Universe is Toast trilogy) and 3 other games where planned because one of their key members left (I think it was Tom Hall and he had copyrights for the idea). Later I came across the gameboy version, which was awful (probably due to lack of Tom Hall).

I got into the sonic series on the first TV series of Sonic, where robotnik and a robot chicken, and another robot were after sonic, and Sonic always eating his chili-dogs, then in the end Tails would come and paint on the wall, it would say "Sonic Seyz", I LOVED those!!! after that ended I forgot bout SEGA till I was but 7 and they started giving out those little handheld SEGA games at McDonalds, then I started buying the SEGA games.

Jazz Jackrabbit 1+2 was totally awesome. What made it so awesome was that it mixed elements of sonic and megaman. Too bad there wasn't a 3rd one (but there is a demo) and the only other sequel was the totally different one for the advance.

Well, despite my SEGA-holism, my first EVER video game was none other than the original Super Mario Bros., on my still-working NES. Given to me by a friend of the family. In fact, ALL my consoles have been gifts from family friends, otherwise I might never have got into video games!
SMB was okay as a game; my earliest attempts were HILARIOUS. As a 7 year oldjust starting on games, let's just say I was ecstatic when I reached level 2. XD The game that really sealed my future as a gamer, however, was... NOT Sonic the Hedgehog. XD No, it was Phantasy Star. The whole family got involved with that one, actually, since it wasn't action-oriented, and we could all "manage it." XD Damn, those "3D" dungeons were classic.
Sonic the Hedgehog was, of course, my first real foray into action gaming. Tons of fun. Phantasy Star IV, however, was the game that ultimately sealed my fate as a gamer, and a game programmer. PSIV... Epic. Purely epic.

The first games I remember playing were Super Mario World and Street Fighter 2. I only had a SNES when I was young (boy, how things have changed).
Psycho Fox and Altered Beast on the Master System were the two that I played to death when I got my first console. I know the MS port of Altered Beast is rubbish (OK the arcade game itself isn't much cop, despite the bad guy being called Neff) but I'd seen it in an arcade. Seemed more special somehow.
"Hey, I'm playing an arcade machine in my house!" I thought.
"No, you're not. You're playing a mediocre port with more sprite flicker than you'd get running Streetfighter IV on a Spectrum!" was the truth.
But I was only 11. What did I know.
Psycho Fox was awesome though. :)
Sonic CD my very first game ever.
Rayman then, it was awesome.
Then mostly RTS like Age of Empires II (I didn't liked 1) or Pharaoh (This last one by Sierra was EPIC)

Hell yeah, Rayman IS awesome. And it's one of the few games in the world that is ENTIRELY justified by its soundtrack!!! Seriously, the game could be SH*T and I wouldn't care. :D Hard as hell though... The only platformer tougher to beat than Rayman that I've ever encountered is I wanna be the Guy, and that's not saying much. :P

WOW! finally I found someone who shares the oldschool rayman fever
Everytime I tell someone about rayman they're like "huh?" lol, I guess these forums (RADIOSEGA.NET WE LOVE YA) has more people from Europe where rayman was brought to life and such
edit: Oh I see Adam Novagen you're from US xD, interesting.
I beated Rayman 1 when I was like 7 years old, lately I grabbed my old disc and started playing, I got stuck at Mr. Sax Hullaballo, lolz seems I am a bit rusty

I played the first Rayman on PC when I was younger as well. What was also great about it was that it came with extra fan-made levels and a level editor. Plenty of fun for $10 back in the day.

Yeah, I'm from the US, but I've been raised with a lot of classic British ideals & attitudes. I like to say that the fact I'm American is a sheer accident of birth. XD
But yeah, Rayman rocks. And it's so, so SOOOOOOOOOOO pretty...

As far as I can remember we've always had our Master System, with a small stack of games. Sonic the Hedgehog, Scrambled Spirits, Castle of Illusion, Lemmings and Ninja Gaiden were all a part of the list.

My first game oficially and my first game overall could have been Super Mario Bros. for NES, since it was oficially my first console, and it came with this game.
My first Sega game (Genesis in this case) was a sport game, sadly. Also I donīt remember the name of it.
This was a hard one as I'm getting rather old (young at heart and mind though). I think the first game I played was Donkey Kong on a Game and Watch handheld. If I remember correctly that might have been in 1982.
And no comment on my age now;)
