Recently, i've discovered an awesome fact (though they've been around for a month now). The Wispa bar is back, and I'm ecstatic. They cancelled this bar back in 2003, and I mourned the loss, as this was probably the best Chocolate Bar on Earth.

http://www.lightstraw.co.uk/faded/w1.gif

The new wrapper, with slightly new font. In all it's mouth watering glory. I drool. And yet, I can't find any in the local shops! I'm craving them somewhat badly.

A sidenote: I also mourned the loss of Citrus Polos near the same time, but the bellends at Nestle don't seem to want to bring them back =(. It's a shame, I used to love sucking them during classes. They had alot of Zing. Tasty Zing at that.

I've had to make do with the Cadbury range of chocolate in this time, which is a more succesful and well known brand. The range is enormous, here's just a sample.

http://www.packaging-technology.com/projects/cadbury/images/CADBURY-4.jpg

That Bubbly was the replacement for Wispa. Heathens!

I also had a Second favourite, which came close to Wispas, MALTEASERS (http://www.philvanes.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/beginners%20diary/Maltesers_Standard_Bag_37g.jpg). Sucking the chocolate off, and then probing the innards with my tounge, till it gave in and melted. Awesome feeling.

Other favourites of mine are After Eights (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/After_Eight), Kit-Kats (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kit_Kat) and Jelly Tots (http://www.jakehowlett.com/tuckshop/wrappers/sweets/fruits/jelly-tots.jpg) (the last of which, I was obsessed with as a child. I liked to squish the red and purple ones together <3 ). I do have many more, but i'll list them as I go on. Too many in one go,XD.

Anyway, other then me reminiscing, the point of this thread? I wish to know the awesome sweets/confectionary items and chocolates that you lot favourited, and why. I'd also love an insight into American/foreign chocolate, as i've not tried a whole lot from there, and am unfamiliar with those brands. Points for pictures of these favourites too =)

American chocolate is awful, when I had some in New York I wanted to puke, urgh. What's with the peanut butter obsession over there anyway?!

Still, Oreos are the best thing over there...

Anyway, this wins the thread:

Some American Chocolate is good, have you guys tried Twix?

But yes, Oreos = win.

Well I have and didn't care for that too much. I'm more of a Kit Kat kinda guy when it comes to chocolates. ;)

Interesting topic though. My friend, born in the UK and living in Florida, is an avid choc-o-holic. He said the chocolate was better in the UK and usually has his fridge stocked with the stuff (UK and US chocolate). One in particular stood out to me as funny (since he liked to give it to his bartender lady friend every once and a while):

I love that whole, "Its not for girls!" thing. Too bad the US is so touchy about things like that. Its a funny ad campaign!

Oh god, yeah. I've got a couple of female friends who really didn't like that. They also didn't appreciate the follow up bar-

http://veethemonsoon.files.wordpress.com/2006/11/yorkie-pink.gif

I found the whole thing hilarious, but i'm a bloke, so I would.

And apparently US chocolate isn't as sweet as the UK's. I really need to try some. We have Nestle and Cadbury's as our two top dogs over here, who runs the chocolate racket over there?

I'm yet to develop big breasts, or an awesome ability like that.

Well thanks for clearing that one up. XD Its amazing how your screen name doesn't ring a gender nor does your RadioSEGA profile say one. I've always assumed male. That comment on the other post though had me wondering.

Not a chocolate expert but I'd have to say nobody does. The biggest I'd say is Hershey followed by Nestle and Cadbury. Did you guys have Cadbury commercials like this with the clucking rabbit?

That ad doesn't really convey chocolate to me, but awesome never-the-less.:P
My fave chocolate has to be a mint aero as the bubbles are awesome and the minty flavor just caps it all off. ^_^ My aunt went on holiday to New York city and brought back some Hershy bars and I must say it was the most revolting chocolate bar I have ever tasted in my life.

I love that advert, I don't know why.

I also loved these, my parents used to watch Coronation Street, and about 10 years ago, they had some "Sponsored by Cadbury" bits before it started. Sadly, I can only find 2 =/

I want a pet gorilla that can do that!

Back on topic, I tend to enjoy butterfingers, snickers, twix, and kit-kats.

Siriku

I never got on with Snickers or Twix, found them a bit..ergh. I've had butterfingers before, but as a child, so I can't remember what they're like.

Another one I love is Smarties. Not the American Smarties, but the UK brand:

http://www.bookofjoe.com/images/r_3.jpg

These were another all time favourite, well still are. Anyone remember when they used to have little letters on the caps? I tried collecting those.

Wow, UK Smarties do look better. Almost like Mentos without the mintyness. And yes, American Smarties do suck. I hated getting those for Halloween trick-or-treating... ;)

Oh! Smarties are good!(I could eat a million of them!) Oh man....there's Three Musketeers, Crunch bars, Kit Kat bars, Butterfingers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, M&M's with peanuts, chocolate covered peanuts, Hershey bars, and Milky Way bars!

and cookies with frosting.....delicious!

I've heard that candy from the UK is a hell of a lot better than American candy. Why is that? Because of the whole diet chart thing about servings and all? I've once worked at Cadbury as a summer job and we were making Wonderbars and shipping them to Germany, isn't that kind of cheating the customers or something?

Siriku
27-10-2007, 02:03
Wouldn't really bother me where the chocolate I ate was produced, as long as it was produced to the same specifications as the chocolate made over here.

As for why, I hear the UK has sweeter chocolate, and America seem to produce a bitter taste in theirs. I prefer sweet to bitter, which is probably what it is.

I think it's because we use more milk too, or something.

Siriku
27-10-2007, 14:15
Aye, sounds about right. You Americans should petition Hershey to use more Milk. Milk is awesome, especially in chocolate. XD

Love that advert mate, especially the music, great track. Turkish Delight (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkish_Delight) though has me pinned, love the stuff. Its good coated in chocolate but I can't stop eating powdered stuff--especially the ones imported from "the middle east", TURKISH DELIGHT OWNS ALL! Maybe I'm addicted...

I know this thread is a year old but I see a lot of people reading it and I want to bring it back with something. I want to compare Europe's chocolate/candy with American's and see what differences they have and see if we can find out something interesting.

Siriku
12-11-2008, 12:22
An interesting idea that.

I hear European chocolate tends to be sweeter, as opposed to American chocolate which is supposedly bitter. I've not been able to compare any though, so I don't know if that's strictly true.

I watched an interview with the guitar player from fall out boy while i were flicking through the channels and he said we have far superior choclate but our peanut butter is awful compared to the americans.

From what I've tasted, american chocolate is very bitter...I had a big Hershy bar and couldn't even eat half of it....it was pretty awful :/ also a bag of ickle mini sweets, again they were sweet, but bitter.

Have to say American's get awesome cerial >_> but bad chocolate

I don't think our chocolates are that bad, but of course i guess it's because I'm used to em. That thing about peanut butter being better here might be true cuz I sure do like my Reeses :)

My brother gave me the most awesome thing a few months ago: popcorn, covered in toffee, covered in chocolate. Toffee Crisp popcorn! Can't find them anywhere though.
