What was your favorite games for this console? Did you own one? Also, is there even a reason to still have one?
I never really had a lot of games for this one. I have Megaman Legends 2, which I liked, the Digimon games; good enough and Dragon Ball Z Ultimate Battle 22/27. Awesomeness, to name a few. At the most, I'd used it to play CDs.
Legend of Lagaia. It tried to break from the normal RPG tedium which I'm all for. Tales of Destiny is also one of those must have kind of games.
I like the PSOne, granted it took me a while to come to terms with it but in gaming general, it has some good titles, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, I mainly use mine for Metal Gear and Final Fantasy and the usual racing games and Music 2000. Still play mine sometimes and it's a good console to own, specifically for classics, and of course the prices are rock bottom so theres a lot to go through.

I bought mine for Klonoa: Door to Phantomile. Don't play it much now since the games for it run very good on the PS2. Games for it I play more often include Klonoa, the Final Fantasy series (VI, VII, VIII and IX), Star Ocean 2 and Loaded.

Ahah! Klonoa, that's a title I need. Going back years but I think I remember liking the demo but never buying the game, need to add it to my list! :)

I never owned a PSone, but I did play the games when I got my PS2.
I started to buy the games. My favorite game would have to be Ape Escape. It was the first game to use the dual analog. I also got a lot of the Digimon games. XD

I didn't get one till after I got a Dreamcast, which is kinda going backwards... Still, it was fun playing the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games, Croc, Soul Blade and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2. The Playstation is also what got me hooked onto RPG games like Harvest Moon, Chrono Chross, Legend of Mana, and of course the Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy 8 was the first Final Fantasy RPG game I ever truly played and I've been a fan of the series ever since. There are still so many other PSX games to play...
I got one back in Christmas '99 and my favorite games series for it have to be Tomb Raider, Driver, Syphon Filter and Oddworld.
I do remember having a Playstation 1 with the games I had Tomb Raider, Worms Pinball, Bloody Roar and Croc 2 and thats all I can think of.

One of my friends had a PS1 and I remember playing the Klonoa demo quite a lot. I think that that was the demo I played more times in a row.

I have the full game on my PS1. It is a very fun little old school platform game. The second game on the PS2 is better but both are great fun.
Also Vib Ribbon on the PS1 was great fun trying it out with different music CD's.

Mine has to be the Original Devil Dice, MTV Music Generator and The Street Fighter Alpha Series.
Surprised no one has mentioned it yet, but the biggest controversial game at the time, was released on the PSX, namely, the incredible GTA series. I played the demo of GTA 1 over and over then I got the game, buying a PSX purely for GTA sounds like a sane choice to me. ^_^

Yeah that was a cool game although I didn't think much of GTA London even though it sounded like a cool idea.

GTA London was great, needed the original but a fun game, especially the car with the British flag on it, I could be patriotic and run people over at the same time, a win/win situation! ^_^
FOR THE RECORD: I don't drive so therefore in real life, no, I don't run people over... :P

I've still got my Playstation 1 for the Tomb Raider Series, but there were still two games I loved playing on it which I haven't got. Those are Ape Escape and Klonoa Door to Phantomile.

You should try to get Klonoa. It's a fantastic game and easily my favourite game for the PS1.

Yeah I might do that, plus I'm looking for Klonoa 2 for the PS2.
Both are great platform games though the second one is the better game. You will find the games on eBay but I'm not sure how much they cost.

Yeah I could do that, but sometimes I don't trust eBay.
Well I guess you could find the second game 2nd hand in GAME or Gamestation but the first one could be harder to track down so eBay looks like your only option.

I loved Parappa the Rapper, Umjammer lammy, Metal Gear Solid, All the Crash Bandicoot's on PS1, and the First Spyro the Dragon. Those were some of the best games on it.

To tell the truth, I am just now playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time. I've never played any of the Metal Gear games before.

I played MGS doring the weekend of Thanksgiving, and it was pretty good. I found that when I set a time to stop playing, that I just couldn't because something new and interesting was happening.

I never really played Metal Gear Solid before, but i did try a demo before. I didn't know what to do and gave up. I kept getting caught. It also reminds of Resident Evil. I never really played it because it was hard, and the zombie monsters kinda freaked me out. I was too young I guess...:P
Anyone remember Silent Hill? That was one of the scariest games of all time.

I've never played it before. Does it play like Resident Evil?

Heh, I was scared shitless when I played that. Resident Evil paled in comparison. Silent Hill took you by the throat and wouldn't let go.

Silent Hill's awesome, but I think I prefer the PS2 ones a bit more. Maybe it's because I played them first, but they've got more of an atmosphere in them, in my opinion.
That, and I'm stuck on Silent Hill. :(
Hmmm...I think Crash Bash is my favourite Game there.
I love the many glitches and bugs. :)

Pepsiman and R-Type Delta.
They also play well on Bleem!
My friend has them, and I've played them on his Dreamcast.
Pepsiman has the catchiest music ever. XD
Ridge Racer is a classic even though its a simple game and there are better racers out there the first Ridge Racer game remains my fave out of the series.
Battle Arena Toshinden :D
Yeah, ok, it wasn't great, but it was the first game I ever played properly on a Playstation. Also played the second and third games, but missed out on the fourth because by then I'd seen some sort of common sense and decided it was a bit bob. Didn't stop me from buying Battle Arena Toshinden Remix on Saturn though. ^_^
Croc was awesome as well. Somebody needs to make a new Croc.
Front Mission 3, Tales of Eternia (known as Destiny 2), Xenogears and of course Final Fantasy VI the PS1 has some great games and my PS1 emulator is probably my favorite one. :3

G Darius (what a legendary shmup), Metal Gear Solid (the naff synthy soundtrack is so bad it's great), the Namco Museum collections (wandering around the virtual museums was so theraputic, this needs to be implemented in more retro collections) and Colin McRae Rally 2.0 (love rally games, this is one of the best) all come to mind.

Street fighter.
Tomb Raider,
Syphon Filter
Castlevania:SOTN,
Broken sword,
Tekken,
Klonoa,
Gran Turismo,
Parappa and Um Jamma Lammy.
Soul blade.
Silent hill.
It weren't a bad little machine really.

In the 90's I played with Sega Saturn. Some friends got Playstation. Well, later I have bought PS1 games for Playstation 2.
My favorite is absolutely Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssee. Nice 3D graphics in 2D environment. And very sympathetic creature Abe :D I spent lot of times with this game. I recommend this one. Also second game, Abe's Exodus, is great. How about the third game? I've never played that one.
Pandemonium is also good platform game. There's pretty mystery atmosphere in the game, I like it. And of course, Crash Bandicoot games are good choise. I have never played Klonoa but I'd like to :)
Wipeout 2097 is great experience with Playstation. I think it's better than any version of Wipeout game. Very fast racing. It still looks beautiful.
I gotta bring up also games like Silent Hill and Resident Evil.

The load times didn't bother me but I didn't have the pc version at the time so I didn't know any better. And yeah Soul reaver was an awesome game. The original,Blood omen with Kain was one of my first PSone games. I loved that too.

It's quite noticable, I played the PS1 version of 2 before I got them on PC. There's one part at the very start of 2 where you can examine a picture and it takes forever to load the graphic and like 2 words of dialog.

Well I had the PS1 Broken Sword on that 3-in-1 set that included Myst, which is probably the loading time equivalent of an ugly girl taking their even uglier friend with them on the pull.
Broken Sword could just be terrible on consoles, 3 had load times for empty rooms where you had more than enough time to make a cup of tea and write a novel before it's done and you see the room is empty and get an even longer load time when you got back to somewhere less empty.
richarddavies
08-06-2009, 15:16
^ That's what i've got Broken sword on actually that compilation. Myst sucks balls. I've tried numeroustimes to play that but I can't get into it.
What's the other game?
I wasn't aware that Myst was even ported to the PS1 and I've only played the game recently on my Ipod. It's certainly something else.

The other one was Road rash. A bit weird how I got it realy. I found the set in a random shop for a quid but it was missing Road rash but about a year later I was trawling through the gaming section in a cash generators near me and they had the road rash fom the set on its own in a slip case, so I picked it up.
That seems abit... random, you get two adventure games and one violent racer?
Killer French Bread
08-06-2009, 15:31
Myst was even ported to the Saturn.
And the collecton is for some charity, I'd imagine the selection was based on what they could blag of publishers on the cheap as much as any thematic reasons.
richarddavies
08-06-2009, 15:33
Yeah it was called the help! charity compilation. A percentage of all the profits from the sets sale went to a charity I care that deeply about I haven't got the slightest clue what it was for.
first game i ever played on PS1 was ridge racer
I still could not beat the black car.

The devil car? The best method is to try and get in front of him and have him shunt you, hard I know when you don't have a rear mirror but you get about another 10 seconds breathing space before he comes back again.
Tried that once.
Passed me 2 seconds later.
I have always noticed that the older the game, the harder it is.
Kaito-kun

I have always noticed that the older the game, the harder it is.
That's because people have gotten lazier and they will just give up and go on an internet fuelled rage if they get beaten my the game more than twice. I mean, look at the FPS genre for example: what was ever wrong with med kits? Hiding in the corner and waiting for your health to magically re-generate is a little bit ridiculous.
Older games tend to feel harder because they're glitchy or more awkward to play than they should be. Playing an old 3rd person shooter without that Gears cover system is difficult! :P
Back then games were much shorter too, some games were purposefully difficult to make the 7 or 8 levels last longer (and it worked :P)

And yet you would easily return to those 7 or 8 levels just to show the game how's boss. Nowadays games feel easier without that action flowing feeling. They seem to be getting easier for no reason.

PS1 games were like Stage > Boss. The good days.
Unless it was a puzzle etc.
It was also a good plaform for racers.
