Being in a Dreamcast mood, I decided to check out the Sega Smash Pack: Volume 1 I saw the other day in the store (http://www.radiosega.net/forum/showthread.php?p=7352#post7352)...
Well I think I might have found a version of Sonic The Hedgehog (Genesis) emulated even worse than the Game Boy Advance port!
And it started subtlety before the title screen. Hmmm. That Sega logo singing was a bit deep voiced. Now the title screen. Ohs noes!

On title screen, Sonic is overlapping the title banner! Such a common early Genesis emulator problem. Never thought I'd see Sega selling any bundle making this mistake. Even though the web pages for the XBOX 360 arcade port (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/s/sonicxboxlivearcade/default.htm) show this problem, they were nice enough to fix it before the final version. Even the Game Boy Advance port got this much right.
It only got worse. Best I can describe it... It was a properly emulated Green Hill Zone with sound that had been dumbed down to 8-bit. Here. Why not have a YouTube sample of Starlight Zone?

OK now that you've have a warm up, why not check out the other titles from the Smash Pack (http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=benstylus&search_query=smash). With the exception of Sega Swirl and Virtua Cop 2, this Pack is a bust.... No wonder why they didn't come out with a sequel.
So what is your opinion? You'll probably agree with me that the sound truly sucks on the Genesis emulator bundled with the Smash Pack. I was excited to see the titles they bundled, but so disappointed to see how poorly emulated the sound was.
Why do you think Sega let this one out the door? It was so late in the game that it really didn't matter since the Dreamcast was end of life and it would make a few quick bucks? If that's the case, what was the reasoning for the subpar (but better than this--well except for the frame rates) Sonic The Hedgehog on the Game Boy Advance?
