As you guys all well know, Sonic Shuffle is the Sega version of the Mario Party games. Personally, I like this game, when you play with friends, which you should, you don't really notice load times. Also, its cool how when all 4 people have VMUs, you can only see your own cards on your controller.
A funny story when my friends and I played was when my brother went for the last precioustone, he used a Max-Speederald, which lets you use 5 cards in the battle. Well, he picked four numberical cards, but then...picked one from me, and I quickly shuffled my cards and he ended up getting my Eggman card and losing, "What are the chances."
What are your thoughts on this game?

I like this game personally, it doesnt match up to Mario Party, but it's still an ok game. It's better for multiplayer because story mode takes quite a while to play through just to earn rings. I like the way the battle system is set up though, it's unique on a board game. I would rather have a dice instead of cards though.

As usual, I feel strangely inclined to post a general gameplay video to show anyone unfamiliar with the game how it was like.

It was a pretty interesting concept to say the least. Haven't played the game myself though.

I liked playing it. It was especially fun playing with my brothers in multiplayer mode and battling it out in the minigames. And since it's a Sonic game, I couldn't resist playing it. :)
I remember playing this. Had it for a while, I still to this day think of it as better than Mario Party. Mainly because of Sonic, but it had some really good qualities when I played it.
I just picked it up a while back because it was part of the Sonic franchise and I thought it would be decent. I played it by myself for a bit and it was okay. Someday I'll try to get a group together and do the whole thing the way it was meant to be.

I don't play it for the main game itself, I just get friends round to play it and aim for the mini-game spaces; awesome fun!
Did this game have online capability, so you could play with other people but they aren't physically in your room? I'd check my copy, but I'm in a hurry right now.

No it didn't. :(
Haha, again a missed opportunity. Why do game makers do this kind of shit? I mean is it that they ran out of time? It doesn't seem it'd be that difficult to have online capability? Eh, just seems to happen way too often, and it can also often help a game's longevity.

To tell you the truth, they probably just didn't think about it enough to know it's potential. Oh well.

I recall playing this at E3 before it came out in stores. The rep that was walking around for SEGA said that the plan was to have it work with Dreamcast Online. Obviously in the end this didn't happen, but that would have been great if they had gone through with it.
Sega always had the coolest booths at E3. I remember the year right before SEGA cut their hardware division - their booth was completely closed off unless you had an appointment. It was so sad. :(

Wasn't this game also competing with Crash Bash on the Playstation?
I dunno, but I've got this game, and I reckon it's a bit rubbish.
That said, I am trying to play it on my own, so the load times get rather annoying, whilst you wait for the computer to cheat it's way to victory, as it inevitably does...sigh.

Its a good game but, they should have made the computer players a bit easier. They are WAY too hard. And the battle thing is pointless, and its so hard to come across mini games. Other than that, good game.
LOL, other than that? Surely you jest. Those are the vitals that make it a party game....if it doesn't have those, what's the point.
This game isn't exactly the shining star in the DC library. But on the other hand, the kids loved to play this. So in the end it was worth the price for that reason alone....

Mini games make a party game. Basically I'm saying it should have been an exact duplicate of Mario Party.
Well, truth be told, I played Mario Party on the Wii, and it was mediocre at best. I only played with one other person, I only played for about 20 minutes, and I wasn't drunk, so my view of it is somewhat skewed. Despite this, it still doesn't seem that fun....more of a glorified, interactive board game...which is fine, I guess.

I love the game. I played it long before I ever tried Mario Party. When I finally played the game that inspired Shuffle, I was not impressed. You're forced to move along linear paths, and nearly all of the minigames are button mashers.
Sonic Shuffle is completely under-appreciated. It had a superior board game function to any other party games I've seen, the graphics were cool, the music fit it well and the minigames are excellent. I read in several reviews that the complexity of these games killed Shuffle, but I disagree. It's the thing that made Shuffle something that Mario Party is not: worth playing.
The battles aren't incredible, but they keep the game interesting. The character-specific abilities also help give the game an advantage over its competition. To top it all off, there's even a cool little room with lots of things to collect, like a Toy Box which allows you to play the minigames alone (this was my favorite feature easily), a fish tank whose residence increase in number as you play through more minigames and cactus collection that grows as you discover new events.
I truly love this game. The only thing that hurts it is the lengthy loading, which is made worse by the constant need for the game to load. Still, considering this game has so many great games, like the escalator climb, mini maze, giant vs. marines, tanks and more, I can't help but play this game now and then. I just wish it got a sequel (though some could consider SSR's party mode somewhat of a sequel). If Sonic Shuffle 2 were announced, I'd get all giddy!:P

Honestly, Sonic Shuffle sucked really bad. The broken gameplay and long load times ruined it for me. It had potential to be a good party game for the DC but just fell flat on its face.

To be honest, if that was fixed I would've been much happier with the end result. As it stands though, I do prefer Secret Rings' party mode over Sonic Shuffle.

Sega is re-trademarking Sonic Shuffle. Does anyone find this curious?http://www.destructoid.com/sonic-shuffle-re-trademarked-by-sega-could-be-nothing-114872.phtml

How you guys talk about it (good or bad) it still sound like loads of fun to me. ^_^
But I’m curious; was there any other game similar to this for the Dreamcast?

I agree almost full-heartedly. The core design I'm sure looked just as good on paper as well as it was executed. Multiplayer mode was where Sonic Shuffle truly shined. The single player was plagued with cheat-rigged, card-eyeing thieves. It's just not fun in my opinion alone unless you're going against Easy opponents.
While all of the Precioustones were pre-determinedy placed on the map in consequetive order, the paths on how to get to each one were remarkably varied. The abilities for each character definitely help out as well.
I remember the reviews that came out around Sonic Shuffle's time. All the reviewers could talk about was how 'Mario Party came first' and how S.S. is just a copy without elaborating on the GAMEplay. So, I bought it, and while I would've had more fun if I had friends who were into Sonic to play, I didn't find the single player to be all that bad, but just needlessly aggravating as the difficulty is increased.
I had a lot of fun with it, and if online were incorporated to it, it would've held my attention longer. Ah well.

Never had a chance to play this one, so a (even remote) possibily to add this game to the list of Sonic games I played would nice. A remake of this game would have to include a solid online mode, since party games should always be played in multiplayer and not alone.

I like this game better than the Mario Party games. I like the card system and the basic objectives of the game. I won't lie though, I've got a fair amount of bias in my head in favor of Sega.

i think its a good game myself. i also like the multiplayer its fun to play with a group of friends instead of playing yourself

It's not a bad little game - but was overlooked really. This marked the beginning of the whoring of sonic as well, I think. However, with Shuffle, one feels it's more in the vein of Mario - rather than just a complete sell out gimmick game.

Yeah, you just shouldn't play this by yourself, well, that's what I think about party games anyway.

True, but some of it feel tedious, but I do get your point.
I am planning to purchase this game, because I want a game that I can play together with my sister. She's eight years old, and loves Sonic and Dreamcast. ;D There aren't that many mini game collections on the Dreamcast, after all.
