SegaMark edit:
WARNING, this is NOT real, do NOT register your details at Dreamcast.com, it's a scam until proven otherwise!
Sega would like to know how many peoples still got a Dreamcast. They re-opened the Dreamcast-Website and updated the japanese one!
What do you think, may Sega be up to? -_- Maybe something big? This Year the Dreamcast is going to be 10 Years old...
You can register your dreamcast here (http://dreamcast.com).
Apparently the answer to that is yes considering I got this:
"Due the high volume of account requests, the service will be temporally suspended."

Oh, that's too bad. A friend also told me that right now!
I've registered in the afternoon. I had to give in the Serial Number of my Dreamcast and my Mailadress...
What are they up to I wonder. Part of me thinks they are gonna be Re-releasing old Dreamcast games or brings it back for a budget release. What I would like to see is an option for the Wii so it can play DC disks, doubt it will happen but one can dream.

This is NOT real, do NOT enter your e-mail address, someone has taken over the domain. There are so many clues it's fake it's silly.
a) It's NOT hosted on Sega's servers
b) It's on a shitty shared host
c) The registration page has no Japanese on it
d) The are adverts linking to Play Asia and Google Ads
The real Sega Dreamcast site is at www.sega.jp/dc/hard/ - do not let www.dreamcast.com/index_hard.html fool you, they've just copied pasted it all.

Do you think someone hacked it? The domain is still owned by Sega Corporation.

It's possible to enter false info when registering a domain I'm sure.

Yes, that is true. I have done it myself. Not for horrible reasons but to make sure my contact information was not all over the internet where everyone could get it.
It seems like Sega could have some recourse against anyone that was falsely using their name. Hopefully this mystery gets resolved soon.
I was just at this website a few days ago and it did not show anything like this. I frequent websites such as Dreamcast.com just to find out what is going on with the old domains.

Looks like Sega let the URL die years ago, click the dates...
March 16 2005 (http://web.archive.org/web/20050316095622/http://www.dreamcast.com/) - Last known date it still pointed to Sega.com
August 28 2005 (http://web.archive.org/web/20051123233226/http://www.dreamcast.com/) - Generic shitty search page
April 24 2006 (http://web.archive.org/web/20060424124642/http://dreamcast.com/) - To a different site...
Feb 16 2007 (http://web.archive.org/web/20070216231546/http://www.dreamcast.com/) - Current location?
Looks to me Dreamcast.com hasn't been owned by Sega for 3 years... Anyway, why would Dreamcast.com point to SOJ? Dreamcast.com always was for SOA.
Quoting from Eurogamer:
SEGA has offered no explanation of its relationship with website dreamcast.com, which asked you for your Dreamcast serial numbers over the weekend.
Arms were thrown in the air like missiles after GameRush declared (http://gamerush.zoomshare.com/files/news/002538_Gamers_duped_Dreamcast_com_not_hosted_by_Se ga.htm) the domain had not been owned by the publisher for several years.
But Internet detective Videogaming247 pointed out (http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/03/10/dreamcastcom-not-owned-by-sega-yes-it-is/) that the Whois registry lists SEGA Corporation or, more specifically, Shoji Takamitsu as the owner.
Which is a trifle confusing. However, we would have expected a more concrete answer from the publisher had it owned the site and been planning something Dreamcast-related.
Dreamcast.com asks you for your console serial number and email address before supplying you with your @user.dreamcast.com account. We suggest holding fire for now.
What do you reckon? Are Sega up to something, or is this part of a scam?

Hmmm... I can't read anything on the site but I want to input my dreamcast serial numbers.
Wouldn't this be better off here? (http://radiosega.net/forum/showthread.php?t=844)

Sorry, I noticed the thread my one was moved into, but wasn't aware they were about the same subject, because I didn't read it.

Yeah, I still play the Dreamcast but right now I'm pissed at my cousin because the stupid idiot misplaced or lost Soul Calibur, Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves, Street Fighter III Third Strike, Shenmue, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Capcom vs. SNK 2.

Due to the recent re-release of DC classics Rez and Soul Calibur on XBox live arcade, there may be a possibility of this happening on the 360.

I had a white Dreamcast that lasted for about 3 years after its launch before it sadly began to scratch my gaming and music CDs, so I bought a black Sega Sports Dreamcast at a pawn shop that works as good as new, even today.
I love it, I hope it doesn't pull any funky stuff in the future; I want my kids to play it someday! (Lol..someday..)

I love my original Dreamcast and I have a few more now! I have a couple of limited editions and also two standard PAL units. Love them all. Check my blog for more info.
Yeah, I have a Dreamcast. ; ) It's the standard PAL one, and still works really well, even if it was bought used.

I have a Dreamcast. I bought it back in 2008 in a music store. It was $20 USD. Came with an RF Switch (wtf?), but it still works well. I kinda underestimated it, but after playing games like Crazy Taxi, DOA2, and Unreal Tournament, I thought to myself, "Why did this great console die? Oh yeah, no lockout, LOL."
And to Zackmaiden, use Amazon. I've checked on there and they have a ton of old consoles and at (mostly) reasonable prices.

I think the RF switch thing was because they were burnt after originally packing Saturns with a Scart and loads of people didn't have compatble TVs.

I have VGA, composite and SCART for the Dreamcast. The RF lead is OK - but typical backwards nature of the UK. I wonder how many people play a 360 through SCART?

I play my 360 through SCART as I don't have a HDTV in my room.:( Plus my sony trinitron is the dogs bollocks anyway.XD
The Dreamcast is in my Opinon much better than the PS2!
The Grafics have more, or better Colors, the Picture seems also more clear.
its real sad the Console didnt sell that much as it should have to.
And there are still great Games for the Console.
My Dreamcast was primary used with a PC Monitor, so i bought me a Switchbox that worked real fine! And so the Grafics was more clear than on Scart! Everyone should try that out! The only negative is that not every Game is playable with the VGA Box. Damn.. =o)
However, Dreamcast is still one of my favourit Consoles of all time!

Last week I was playing my favorite Dreamcast racing game Test Drive Le Mans. It's a game everyone should play. The graphics, the controls, the sound & music and the gameplay are top notch.
Well, I've finally bought a scart cable for my DC, so I should be able to get back to playing Shenmue and JSR soon :D And they'll look prettier, yay!

You want a PAL unit or a Jap unit? I might be selling one soon.
richarddavies
27-03-2009, 14:24
Prefer a pal be honest. I honestly don't know if you can get pal games working on a jap dreamcast easily as all the games I have are pal.
EDIT: I'd consider buying one dependent on price etc but if you ever do sell one keep it to pm's.

What is with everyone's Dreamcasts breaking down? What causes it? I've had mine for about 2 or 3 years now and I've had no problems whatsoever with it. And it's an ntsc model 1.

Oh I have alot of time on it haha. It's probably the most played system I've ever had. Though I do other things as well, like make music. o.o I dunno like..It just seems like so many people complain about their DC's breaking down on them. I've never seen so many people say that about a console. Well except for the PS2 laser failures.

Mines still fine, though I've gone through a few controllers but that's what happens when you play too many games that use a jump button XD.
