You may have heard about SEGA Trying to get the Name "Sonic Unleashed" Patented. You may have not heard or Seen, these Screenshots of a brand new Sonic Game! This may be a fix to make up for Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Looks good, but I hope its for Wii. This is all the Info I Have, No release Dates or Story. Just a possible Name and Screens. Enjoy.

Hmm, judging by the screenshots, if they aren't fake, this is going to be a 360/PS3 game. The Wii isn't capable of graphics that good.
Still, it looks promising. Can't say I like the title all that much, but I'll stay skeptical until the finished product comes out. After all, Sonic Next Gen looked good...

Looks like the deal alright. Can't play it as it's out for 360/PS3 by the look of the graphics but Sonic games have seen to have lost interest by me at the moment. Maybe it's due to the fact they need to bring out a good one to ge back into it.
Clearly they've learned from their mistakes, because those couple of screenshot bits definitly look like the secret rings. So maybe PS3?
Also I hate the name Unleashed it's up there with Extreme (or Xtreme) as bloody stupid titles.

Yes, I heard the news a few days before, and today I noticed the screens in TSS.
Looks very promising, I think this game is going to be for Wii, is too similar to SatSR. I don´t discard yet that maybe is possible to see it in the PS3.
Wow, Eggman goes off the hook. :P
The graphics look nice but it looks too good to be for the Wii but then Mario Galaxy showed that the Wii could do graphics just as good as the PS3 and 360. But from the look it does look like the game will be using the same gameplay style as Secret Rings though I’m not sure how the game will play with an analogue stick if the game is going to be a graphic update of SATSR and I know that the PS3 has the Six Axis motion thing and this worries me since I don’t want this to be a PS3 exclusive since I don’t own a PS3.
One good thing though is that they have kept the old look of Eggman and not given him new look as seen in Sonic 06, it looked good and gave Eggman a more “I’m not f**kin around attitude” but the old comedy look seemed a lot better.

I know how you feel though Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure has brought back some of my interest in the Sonic franchise but after Sonic 06 this would have to be something special.

Interesting, I'm liking the look of the graphics and somehow it makes me think oldschool style. It does look like you're supposed to race around like in Sonic and the Secret Rings.

As I noticed in some news, according to Sega Magazine, the game will be for Xbox 360 and Wii. Just for these consoles revealed at the moment. So the game will be multiplatform. I think could be for PS3 aswell.
And we have the trailer too.

The surroundings look amazing! Be good if you could go smash some houses up but I doubt heh. To be honest I didn't like Secret Rings much as you were running all the time and it ruined it for me as I wasn't very good at it and the homming attack would never work right. It was a unique way of playing but again took away the goodness in my opinion. Hopefully this game isn't just running without being able to stop. That wierd Sonic enemy looks like Crash Bandicoot let himself go.

The trailer looks very good and certainly puts some expectation on the game. The only that's left is for SEGA to announce the game.

Speaking of the which, doesn't the game remind you of Crash Bandicoot?
I remain on the fence until this game is released and has a decent Eurogamer review. Unless it's on PS3 then I don't give a crap.

It would actually be a good idea to not limit the variation of gameplay given that it can be done correctly. This looks like it can be one of the most interesting games in a while.
Don't get me wrong though, there are still a good handfull of Sonic game I still play, but this one could join that handfull.

When has this happened? Only game I can think of where they changed the gameplay is in Sonic Adventure and the other characters just ruined it for me, especially Sonic Adventure 2 where you had to play as other characters to get through the story.

I didn't mean to imply that this has ACTUALLY happened. I'm actually meant it in an expressive sense. The scheme used in SA2B wasn't the best that it could be, but it didn't bother me too much.
Very cool it looks like a cross between Sonic Rush and Secret Rings.

The whole thing about turning into a werewolf just sounds like Sonic Team are stealing ideas from Twilight Princess.
Though I’m am happy that the game will also be multiplatform for Wii, PS3 and 360 now all I got to do is decide which version I want.
However I’m worried that SEGA will rush this out as sources say the game is coming out in November 2008.

When I was thinking of Twinsanity at the time, I was thinking about the Evil (Wolf-like) Crash. You will find an image of a wolf-like Sonic somewhere amongst those pics. I'm just too lazy to highlight that one right now.

Oh right now I get it, there was Fake Crash aswell from the old games that had a wolfish face.
I have to say one thing after watching that video:
SEGA have learnt from Sonic Wii. Whether they've learnt from Sonic Next Gen is undecided, but at least it looks like they've learnt how to make Sonic work in 3D.
And all it took was for them to play some Crash Bandicoot.
This Werewolf thing worries me, it just looks like an excuse to put in some stupid new gameplay mechanic not needed in a Sonic game.
Possibly, but I really don't care too much about that if the core gameplay is classic Sonic, albeit in 2.5D.

I bet people said that about the Tails/Eggman sections in Sonic Adventure 2.
I quite enjoyed those, actually. Was better than Tails' "Racing" in SA1.
I quite enjoyed those, actually. Was better than Tails' "Racing" in SA1.
At least the racing was fast paced. Those mech section were just slow and boring and long far too long...god they took forever. Those sections killed the Sonic fan in me, that and Heroes...and the treasure hunting sections in SA2...
Yeah, the treasure hunting sections in both SA and SA2 were slow, tedious and frigging boring. Meteor Herd from SA2 in particular strikes me as the most annoying Sonic level ever.

I didn't mind them so much in SA1 because there wasn't that many of them, also they were in a sense optional unless you wanted to do the Super Sonic level.

Looks like someone's forgetting about Silver's Dusty Desert stage in 06. If however, you haven't come across that stage, then power to you. Stay away from it.
Yeah, I suppose so.
Reminds me, I reckon I want the Sonic games on Gamecube, if I can find them cheap enough. Depends on cost, though, I do have better things to buy.
EDIT: I traded in Sonic 06 after I'd finished Sonic's story. I really wanted to battle on and try and rip it's achievements from it's unforgiving heart, but I ended up getting rid after trying to play Shadow's story. Got about 50% in and thought "No, had enough now".

I'm normally able to get them for $20 in my area, but I can imagine them being out-of-print by now.
I might try eBay in a month or two. I'd imagine they'll be going for a couple of quid each. Was actually tempted to get Sonic 06 for PS3 for a tenner a couple of months ago, but my girlfriend talked me out of it, saying that there was a reason I got rid of the 360 version.

Saw it this morning and looks awesome. Doing 2.5 gameplay and with some 3D cutscenes that are skipable(maybe)
Anyway, the lack of Shadow/Silver is a nice to see...
It's reduced to Sonic, Tails, Knux and Eggman. So smaller the character cast, the better.
Just hoping that it does turn out to be released at a later date because this looks too good enough to screw up

A delayed game is a better game...unless you're Bethesda and you still manage to screw up Oblivion.

Ok so this Game is going to be released in November of this year, so its obviously been in development for sometime. in May, Sega will release more info on this game at some game day event. This game will also be featured in the official Nintendo magazine in the August Issue. Sonic team is Developing it (Of Course) But the Twist is SEGA Developers From the U.S., Japan and even Europe are Helping to develop this too! This is a very Big Game. It looks Good. This is the First Time Ive been Extremly Excited Over a Sonic Game!
Developers From the U.S., Japan and even Europe are Helping to develop this. Wow where did you hear this? If this is true then it looks like SEGA are pulling out all the stops for this one.
Hmm, that actually gets me worried. The non-Sonic Team developed games seem to get more stick than the Sonic Team developed ones these days, except for the two Rush games and the two Rivals games. Everything else seems dross.

Food Comparison? Anyway, I heard it from the Page that released the info and the Video. It might be a Good thing, I mean Sonic Team is Still developing, its just they are Getting some Help. And from the Video, You can see their Definatly Will Not Be Camera Problems! =)
What? No you can't, you can only see that it might play a bit like Crash Bandicoot. There is still potential for the camera to be as rubbish as it always has been, especially as we've seen so little of the game so far.
Still, I must admit it does look a bit more promising than other recent titles.
I think so too but then I did say that when I first saw the Sonic Next Gen trailer back at TGS 2005 (this one BTW http://www.gametrailers.com/player/7703.html) so as always I'm gonna wait until I get my hand on the game to see if this is a come back game of sorts.
Yeah, but the reveal trailer for Sonic Next Gen had nothing to do with the finished game at the end of the day. I would imagine the Unleashed trailer will have some in-game elements in it, so it'll be much better recieved...assuming the game doesn't run like crap when it's revealed.

This game better be good. I'm sick of the franchise going down-hill. I hope SEGA gets it right this time (fingers crossed).
I am a Sonic Fan and still refered some other old sonic games than the new ones (especially Heroes and the 2 Riders, i don't even want to look at them in the stores)
But this game make's me feel like what i wanted all along: A "remake" style with 3-D elements and a short cast of characters.
This is making me think that this game is going to be one of the greatest sonic games like the originals, and i don't care of the were-wolf thing, or new gameplay, as long i can see 2.5-D graphics with Sonic running in it.
Still, i hope they get the music of Crush 40 back.
Just hope they don't pull a Sonic Adventure 2 on us and make more werewolf sections than Sonic sections.
Or make it like Ultimate Spider-man with the pratically unplayable Venom sections.
That is if the werewolf thing is playable and it does change to gameplay.

If they finally remove the Crash Bandicoot way of boss fighting where you have to wait forever for them to do some attack then get in a couple of hits when they're down. Because that is really annoying just let me attack all the time during a boss fight already.

That's pretty much how it is in most games though, boss's have a set routine in which you have to avoid before attacking

Sonic should be, go from left to right, destroying enemies, with the final goal of beating the boss. The story can stay in the instruction manual thank you very much. Bollocks to cut scenes, new characters, and even the rubbish soundtracks, Sonic Adventure had the last good soundtrack, ever since it's been a lot of this rock rubbish. Sonic CD (JP/EU) style music please.
SEGA, stop catering for the kids who don't know any better, make one for us who were there in 1991, us who made Sonic the success he once was. Back when Sonic as a series was well respected as a quality series of games. We have wanted a proper Sonic game for years.

Amen to that, my friend. Where's Peter Moore when you need him to deliver a speech?
the first sonic game i played was the Sonic 3-D Flicky Island in the genesis or master system.
But with the mega collection and gems collection makes me think some games are better in th past.... And Shadow doesn't exist in the past!
I just hope that the only characters that they must appear in that game are Sonic, Tails , Knuckles and Eggman; just like the originals.
I'd go for a game without Tails, to be honest, unless he's actually gonna sound male for a change, and not sexually ambiguous.

Tails my favorite Character, along with Blaze.
But Tailos came first, and the voice he has right now doens't matter to me.
Also, i want the game bac with "save post" all in the level, and be able to find more eggman robots battles.

Respect to that but I do have to say times have changed over the years and I’m pretty sure SEGA will just take advantage of the new storage capacity of the DVD/Blu-Ray formats and fill them with CG but really I think if SEGA really wanna put cut scenes in Sonic games then they should just have them for the intro, boss fights and the end and that’s it nothing more and devote the rest of the disk space to more levels etc.
Another thing is I think SEGA should get a new voice cast for the games, Sonic X is over and its never coming back so why not hire some decent talent to voice Sonic and co?
And your right no more new characters please SEGA just stick with what you got. And yes on the soundtrack even though I love what Crush 40 are doing in the games these days despite the games quality (Sonic 06 sucked but the soundtrack was awesome) I would love to hear some old school J-pop style soundtrack in a Sonic game. Sonic Rush just about nailed it on the head the soundtrack to that was superb. Another part of me would like to see another Sonic R style soundtrack by Richard Jacques. It doesn’t have to be rock all the time so I would love to see SEGA experiment in this area.
SEGA should sit up and take notice, the old school fans know what they like and thats old school gameplay not half arsed unfinished games with lots of bugs. 3D or 2D it does not matter what type of game Sonic stars in SEGA just need to listen to the old farts of the Sonic fanbase and not the young 10 year old fanbase. And they should definitly not listen to the money men within SEGA bleeding every last drop of blood out of the Sonic franchise just so they can make a quick buck.

That's right ... Older players are the ones who care about what the franchise represents. And I think it's right to say we want a good game ... one that reminds us of the glory days of the 16-bit era.

Well yeah, being cheap is pretty awesome, but Tails has always annoyed me. Probably because I always got stuck with playing as him when playing Sonic 2 Co-Op with my cousin.
Still, the special stages rocked. I don't think we ever managed to collect any rings between us because we were always trying to be the one in front XD

Wow, it was the same with me and my cousin, except I was always Sonic of course ;)
theres just something about being in front while in the special stages...
those were the good old sonic days..., I hope SEGA doesn't screw up this new game -_-

I admit I have a PS2 as a new and last console, but I will do an effort to buy a DS and a Wii the next months, so I think when the games arrives I will have the Wii anyway.
On topic, this is a great news, is not confirmed yet, but I have hopes.
The possible launch for PS2 comes from Gamestop and other site I don´t remember which.
4 platforms that sounds like Sonic Team are gonna be very busy but I wonder if SEGA will be getting other developers to work on the different ports for example Sumo Digital just so they can take the work load off for them.

The ps2 version could just be a mistake made by the Gamestop page that Sonic Stadium got it from.
The current trend seems to be to get a seperate team to work on the PS2/Wii versions.
SuperMatt723

They better not do that for the Wii version, ill cry :P
I think there is a good chance that this game will actually be good. One thing that can make sure of that is that this isn't a production Sonic Team are doing on their own in Japan. So if they get some help from some of the good teams in europe i don't think that will be a bad thing!
Sonic Team made Sonic Next Gen, and that was crap :p
Anyway, SEGA's lawyers have accidentally confirmed that Sonic Unleashed is actually real. Full story here (http://kotaku.com/373681/sega-confirms-sonic-unleashed-leaks).

I hope this is a good game, but different from other times, I will not be seen making large statements about why this has everything to be the best Sonic ever or why it looks awesome and such. I prefer to wait for more official info and see, because I've been disappointed too many times before.

Don't forget Sonic Adventure 2 that was one hell of a dissapointment.
Eh, Sonic Adventure 2 wasn't that bad. In fairness it wasn't as good as the first one, and introduced too many new characters just for the hell of it, though Shadow was a cool introduction as an Evil Sonic type character...until he went Anti-Hero.

Well it's now official.
Sega has confirmed the leaks (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=127667) and backed up its lawyers (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=129312) by officially announcing its next major Sonic the Hedgehog title: Sonic Unleashed.
Sonic Unleashed is being developed by Sonic Team, and will be released late this year for Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. It features "classic Sonic 2D gameplay" rendered by the all-new Hedgehog engine, which apparently excels at seamless 3D to 2D camera transitions. Observe them in the official, non-leaked, absolutely watertight video (http://www.eurogamer.net/tv_video.php?playlist_id=8123).
The engine's been under development for three years, with the intention of blending a next-generation look with classic Sonic gameplay mechanics. Purists rejoice. We certainly are: it looks lovely.
It wouldn't be a Sonic game without a gimmick of some kind, however, and we're promised a "completely new way to play as Sonic" when darkness sets in - lending more than a little weight to the earlier claims that he would transform into a werewolf. Combat will play a much more important role - in the werewolf sections, we're betting - while Sonic's more traditional high-speed skills will be featured in four new modes.
The plot's pretty simple: Dr Eggman has broken the world apart, and Sonic must travel around the seven broken continents, sticking it back together with Chaos Emerald power.
It all sounds appealingly old-school. Consider us cautiously optimistic, and watch out for more details on Sonic Unleashed in the coming months.
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=129970
No fighting system please SEGA just Jump and Spin will do us nicely;)
To be honest, I think having a small fighting system for when he's WereSonic will be just fine, depending on how it's implemented. Jump and Slash'll do. Maybe a charge as well. Anything else will be just crap.
Still, it sounds good. Hopefully the name'll change from Sonic Unleashed to something a bit better, like Sonic Wild Fire did.
EDIT: Here's a question: If they've been developing the Hedgehog engine for three years, why wasn't it used in Sonic Next Gen?
Probably wasn't ready in time.
This Werewolf crap still bothers me.
BluePuyo
03-04-2008, 18:12
A new engine? Sounds interesting.
So Sonic could transform into the werewolf...
Hmm... for now, is Sonic alone? I wonder if we could play with other characters as well.

Okay I have to come in here, how is it classic if it's "Sonic vs Eggman"? His name's Dr. Robotnik, always has been always will be! ^_^ A new Sonic game, if one is being released, should go back to Sonic 1 on the Megadrive, the speed, the levels, the fights, can't beat a true classic.

Wow, i just realized, we are all STILL so picky even though Sonic is Going Back to his Roots.
He's not exactly going back to his roots though, is he? It's still going to be different.
His roots now seem to be entrenched in the Rush series, and even that's trying to mix things up.
I was on the Official Nintendo Magazine message board and they had news on the new Sonic game and not only that but they also said that they will have an exclusive preview of the new game in the next issue of ONM, which will be out on Friday the 11 of April.

I just hope SEGA dont throw in a rushed motion control system for the 3D parts or if they do at least tighten them up a bit however I'll be more then happy just to play the game with the remote on its side, old school style as god intended it to be.
While people are saying PS3/360, most of those looked to be pre-rendered video clips, and besides, no one has really gotten down to trying to make really pretty graphics on the Wii. Whose to say it can't be done. Numbers don't prove everything.
*Update* Upon further review of the screenshots, it seems very possible to make this for the Wii.

Wii ports are all about rushed motion control systems. Will probably have waggle for the fights or something.

Nintendo have, just look at Mario Galaxy.
SEGA aren't going to make a seperate version for the Wii, they'll just port the PS2 version tack on some waggle and call it a day.
Well, Nintendo has but nobody other than them. And the images appear to be on par with Super Mario Galaxy. Maybe a little better. But still, with SSBB and Sonic and Mario at the Olympics, I believe that SEGA has seen that the Wii is a platform worth developing for. And if SEGA is gonna try to make something work they're gonna make it look and play very well.

The PS2 is dead! That stupid system should die and stop ruining people's opinion of the Wii. Developers shouldn't be stupid and lazy, and should push the Wii to its limits.

The PS2 is still going strong amazingly just like the PS1 has. As for Sonic and his "werewolf sections," I'm kind of concerned. I can't imagine speeding around in the levels and then all of the sudden slowing down to play as something else. The only way it can be cool is if he's still somehow fast, but with the power of knuckles (as in strength not gliding).

I'm mainly sticking up for people who have a PS2 as a latest console. Not their fault they can't get a new system. It just shows Sega are thinking of people in this kind of situation and PS2 is more commonly owned than a Xbox or Gamceube from the last gen consoles.

The PS2 had 120 million worldwide sales. Why wouldn't SEGA want a piece of that market. And like you say some people may only have a PS2 as they have yet to go next gen.

That is my case, I have the PS2 as last console.
I don´t see interesting titles in the Xbox 360 and PS3 to buy one of those or both. I´m deciding to buy a wii, not now, I see a lot of games I like.
So I don´t see the need on my part to buy a console just to play one game.
Back in 2006 I wanted to buy a Xbox 360 just to play Sonic`06. Fortunately I bought nothing.
Yes but has anyone of you ever played Sonic Heroes , Shadow the Hedgehog, or Sonic Riders on it? It slows the Frame Rate down and makes it difficult to enjoy.
I only played Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic Riders (both) and my experience was favorable, I enjoyed the games a lot, specially Sonic Riders. Frame rate down? I saw more in Shadow the hedgehog, but was temporal, so never affected to me in the gameplay. In Sonic Riders never happened to me.

Now at day the people dislikes the comparision of the PS2 and Wii, so don´t worry, I´m sure that you aren´t the only.

Geez, the PS2 is like an adult trying to fit in with the younger generation. Its time is OVER!
In a sense, I agree and disagree with this post.
I agree that developers should stop porting over PS2 games to the Wii and just adding some half arsed motion sensing controls in order to make it work properly. It's hardly fair to the Wii or it's installed fanbase, who probably own PS2s anyway.
On the other hand, I disagree that the PS2 is dead. It'll be dead when Sony say it's dead, much like the PSone. They still believe the PS2 to be a profitable machine, what with having PSP ports on it and a few original titles. The PS2 is on its last legs, yes, but it's still got a few years to go yet.
I bet alot of developers want to make a fun game for the Wii that uses the motion controls well. That however takes time, they can't just sit around doing nothing while thinking of the perfect way to use the controls. So what if they just dump some PS2 game with waggle on it while they get round to making a fun exclusive?
The PS2 is on its last legs, yes, but it's still got a few years to go yet.
Persona 4, the PS2 is still clearly very healthy.
With regards to the Wii version, I imagine Sonic Team'll use the Secret Rings engine to render it. I can't see them developing a new game engine when that one worked so well for them.

I kept getting a lot of control errors to. For example if I wanted Knuckles to use fire dunk, he would do the animation and say the quote but nothing would be fired at the enemies. Triangle jump sometimes wouldn't work either as the sound effect for the formation would play but nothing would happen. I still play it sometimes though. I did get all A's on it XD.

Dr Shaneman
05-04-2008, 20:36
I never had a problem with the camera personally but then again I used to just speed through the levels and not notice a big pile of bugs ect unless it was control wise. Another bug that annoyed me was in Lost Jungle where you had to swing from the vines to escape the alligator. 50% of the time time (always on the same vine) you would press the button to swing to the next vine and you would just drop... even if the swing was at the highest point. Really annoying when going for A as you lose you're points. The second time you did it though the bug never happens, like it needs you to go through that part once to load properly.
I had Heroes on the PS2 and it was jsut a bad game and got rid of it. Although I had money to burn and got the PC version for £10 and its not too bad, way better then the PS2 port.

Hopefully, Sonic won't need to fight and will have a tension gauge (that's what it was called in Rush, I guess) that, when full, can be used to blow enemies apart with his speed.
The werehog probably will need to fight. The real questions are: How will this affect gameplay? Will these be two separate parts of the game or will you have to shift gameplay types in-level?
I imagine they might have it as seperate levels much like Sonic Adventure 2.

Yeah, but you have to admit, in terms of recent Sonic games, Secret Rings is probably the best console offering.
If we're including handhelds as well, Rush and Rush Adventure beats the crap out of all of them.
Home based console - I suppose yes Secret Rings.
Hand held - The Rush series.
I think in general though I would say Rush Adventure is the best newest one.

Sonic Advance series was better. Oh crap Sonic Advance 3 = A Gimmick that actually worked well.
Anyway Sonic Advance didn't have me waiting around forever so I can attack the boss.

I’ve never played the Advance series so I’m going to go with Dr Shaneman and Gavvie and say the Rush series. The first one I think is the better out of the two but both are very awesome games.
Console wise it is Secret Rings. I know a lot of people don’t really like it, its true the controls are a bit iffy but I myself quite liked them and although the RPG upgrade Sonic bits felt stapled on at the last minute I enjoyed playing through the entire game. For me this is the best console Sonic game I played since Sonic Adventure 2.
Oh and we have some more news on the game and the games lead designer Yoshihisa Hashimoto has said that Sonic Unleashed "has no relation" to Sonic 360/PS3. You can read what he says here http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=186523
And Official Nintendo Magazine will have the full interview in issue, #29, which comes out this Friday.

That's because me and Gavvie are good :P. Well yes Secret Rings is the clossest thing to Adventure that we got despite the crabby controls I guess.
Its strange many people say they hate the controls yet I thought they worked quite well. Still its just one of those games you have to try to see if its your thing.

They should work quite well but they're abit off. And I swear you're not actually steering sonic just moving him to seperate paths.
A good example of how Secret Rings should have played is the Wii Play minigame. That's right Wii Play, a game people only own because it came with a wiimote, did a better job at Secret Rings gameplay than Secret Rings.

Secret Rings was not the Best Sonic title, But it was a Great way to bring Sonic on the Wii and it was fun. I enjoyed every minute i played that game. The only Downside: I would get frustrated trying to get all the Gold Metals.

another question for the werewolf parts is... Will he Still be fast? and will he have the same control?
Since apparently he will be stronger probably will be slower too. Let's hope that it'll not be too strong and too slow.
Well, I guess this answers that question:
In this form he's "a slightly slower and yet more agile beast. Where Sonic dodges past obstacles, Were-Sonic manhandles them out of the way and can toss enemies around like nobody's business", Official Nintendo Magazine explains. He also traverses levels by swinging on overly-long arms instead of running.
I'm really worried about this, but let's wait until we jump into conclusions. Swinging his arms instead of running??
Sounds a bit like Donkey Kong, to be honest :p

Here's some more info regarding the Wii version:
Hashimoto went on to reveal that the Wii version of the game will be out this winter, and use a Wiimote and nunchuk control system.
Sonic will be given Boost and Dash abilities charged up by collecting lots of rings, and can also hop to the right or left using a quick step manoeuvre.
Sounds like a cross between Secret Rings and the Rush series gameplay.

Interesting that he says that they wanted the game to harken back to the older Sonic Adventure games, when that's the point where the series started to go downhill.
Still, at least it sounds like they've learnt their lessons from Heroes, Shadow and Next Gen.

Personally, I think the Adventure titles were the best 3D Sonic games I've played. Sure, they we're not perfect and some camera and excessive amount of characters problems made me wish I was playing the old 2D games. But, still, if they can make a Sonic game that's at least similar to the Adventures, I'll be satisfied, for starters...

I'm really excited about this but i'm a bit worried. If it plays like Rush and Secret Rings, then thats a good start, but they also need to slow it down like old Sonics, finding the secret routes and shortcuts etc, and they've also got homing attacks which I never liked. Just please, oh please, SEGA don't mess it up. I really think this would be the last one I would buy if it's shocking. Secret Rings was a good start for a comeback but hugely flawed.

You mean Cow Racing dont you? That was a great laugh:biggrin:
But you are right Secret Rings should have felt like that but I was happy with what I got in the end.

Ah, I hated Amy's stages in Adventure. So slow and annoying because of Zero :P.

Actually I liked Bigs levels too. It was fun to just hang around levels fishing trying to catch bigger fish. Not a great character but alright in Adventure. I'm a huge fan of the original Sonic Adventure so most of it just "works" for me. ^_^

I agree. Sonic Adventure was a really good game. Chaos was an excellent boss. The next Sonic could be great but I don't want linear levels with one path. Personally, I think they should make Knuckles levels a slow adventure type, Mario 64 esque and Tails back on his feet would be cool.

Amy was nothing but a ditzy little stalker but apart from that I think she’s an ok character and seems to have her heart in the right place. Her VA though is crap but her Japanese VA aint to bad.

Anyway talking about Amy, this is how it should be done SEGA. Ok she is annoying and her whole story in Sonic Adventure was to run away from some rape robot. However she only had 3 levels, why can't all side characters only have 3 levels? They weren't even that bad you were still going from point A to point B with some boring hiding at times, but still they were better than Knuckles stages.

Yeah, Amy's levels were actually good in my opinion. Toggle your TV sound off and you're good to go hammering the badniks and evading Zero. Oh, and grabbing the balloon, which was one of the stupidest ideas for a goal ever. Question is shouldn't he be able to fly then? Maybe not... But Zero was by far one of the worst Eggman robots EVER. I mean, just look at its rusty carcace and bad targeting skills!
Amy really didn't have much of a purpose in Sonic Adventure, but her bits weren't horrible, not as bad as in Sonic Adventure 2 in the jungle levels when you had to jump on the vines, or knuckles' levels in Sonic Adventure 2.

Wow! None of us posted a link to that trailer before! And we've been talking like we had for weeks! XD
Anywho... title? No clue, maybe they'll stick with Unleashed because of the werewolf part. Or maybe Sonic Advance 3 Next-Gen, because of the story... wasn't that the one where Eggman divided the world into 7 parts, or something too?:P
I'm not sure to be honest, I wasn't all of that fond of Sonic Advance 3. It felt a lot like Sonic Heroes in 2D form.
Still, apparently the trailer shows that Were-Sonic hates rings for some unknown reason. Not entirely sure why, but I'm sure SEGA'll tell us very soon.

Ha! I knew it! I wasn't confused about it after all.
They thought about making a Sonic Adventure 3 game, but shifted directions to a whole different game after all.
"In our minds, this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series. It has no relation to Sonic the Hedgehog [on PS3/Xbox 360] or Sonic and the Secret Rings".All I can say is "about f*** time they did something right". Sonic Adventure (both of them), are basically Sonic at his best when it comes to 3D. Pure gold. I have no worries about this game so long as it's a continuation of the same "type" of game that SA was. SA was Sonic at his best, maybe their learning after all...

Nah maybe he just activated a nearby Bio-Reconstruction Machine before dieing. Or a Vita-Chamber which don't require you to be near them.
To be honest, I wasn't aware that Shadow had died at the end of Sonic Adventure 2. I know he fell back to Earth after beating Final Hazard, but there wasn't any indication that he actually had died. We were only left to assume that he had.

I think that's a pretty clear indication that he died, weren't they in space? I doubt he would of survived re-entry let alone the massive fall.

Shadow is a hedgehog know for his ability to warp around at will. With a bit of concentration he can warp between Earth and Ark (how else did he get up there, he didn't know where Eggman's base was).
What actually happens at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 is Shadow falls into the background towards Earth. But instead of flames surrounding his body as usual there is a Purple Flash.
So there were hints he was going to survive back then.
Some new information about the upcoming Sonic Unleashed. It seems that the Wii version is going to be a little different from the 360 and PS3 versions, which the games producer has given in an interview with Play magazine.
Some of these details are Wii specific, while others relate to all versions.
- Split of 3d to 3d side-scrolling action is about 50/50
- Hub areas for story return once again
- Wii version is not using the same engine as PS3/360, but the team is working hard to duplicate the look as closely as possible
- Mix of speed and platforming
- Wii version is different in stage design and controls
- Coding and stages for Wii version is being handled by Dimps, who was responsible for Sonic Rush/Sonic Rush Adventure
- Tomoya Ohtani from Sonic Rush will be the sound direct
So since the Wii version will be different to the 360/PS3 versions that leaves me with a dilemma, do I buy the nicer looking next gen version for my 360 or do I buy the Wii version with the different level layout. Well since there’s a bit of un-trust with Sonic Team and me at the moment I’m not 100% on the 360 versions but since Dimps who are working on the Wii version who also worked on the fantastic Sonic Rush series then I’m pretty sure they will do it justice.
Here are the links.

Totally! This feels realy reasuring, since they know how ta make quality sonic games. I was trying not to get my hopes up too much but now I start to think that this just can't go wrong.
Well all it really is a cut down port of the 360/PS3 game running on a different game engine and having some changes to the level layout but still this being Dimps who did such an awesome job on the DS games then who knows what to expect from this Wii port. And who knows this might turn out to be the better out of the 3.
But then theres the PS2 version well the inteview had nothing on it so we still dont know what thats gonna be like although my guess is that it will be like the Wii version but cut down in terms of graphics.

Interesting news. I'm not sure what to think.
The Dimps part is really reasuring, but the "controls being different" part ... Even if I like Secret Rings, I hope they don't go for the on-rails mechanic this time. I miss having the liberty to fully control Sonic in 3D.
Tails_1986

In terms of control I still don't know what to think. Although going the Secret Rings way could work for the 3D parts, it wouldn't be that great for the 2D parts. Seeing that these parts are split 50/50 it's possible for them to at least give us more control in these parts.
Well as far as I know the game can be played with the nunchuck and I also heard that the Secret Rings sections wont play like Secret Rings.
I guess we will have to wait longer to find out what plans SEGA have for the Wii version.
I would imagine we'll be finding out soon, because I think SEGA's Gamers Day is around the corner.
Oh yeah someone said there will be more on the game on Gamers Day.
Did they give a date?
I can't see one listed anywhere, but it's definately in May, so one of the major gaming websites should pick up on it fairly soon.

The only real difference will be the layout of the levels, how we don’t know yet but my guess is due to the lack of processing power the Wii and PS2 have the levels will have some changes that will work in their favour.

It seems to be heading the right way. That's good to know.
That talk about 30 frames per second kind of makes me abit woried.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Sure, we'd all love Sonic to be blasting along at 60fps, but let SEGA take it one step at a time. If they can develop a good 3D Sonic game that can run at a constant 30fps, that'll do for me.

Agree'd, as long as the game play keeps making me want to play it then I'm not worried.
Being a bit technical her but Sonic Next Gen ran at 60fps (when there was no slow down happening) and Secret Rings ran at 30fps and while 30 frames less then Next Gen it was still pretty quick so I don’t really have any worry of speed all I care about is the game play and it does seem that SEGA are on the right track so far.
However I hope they don’t include any new faces but in the end I don’t really give a toss if they do all I care about is if the game is fun in the first place.
