Or accurate, for that matter.

It does look like we're definitely keeping new spambots out due to registration being closed, which is a good thing. Any attacks from here on out will be from accounts already registered.

Now to firm up the security, and we'll give it another crack of the whip.

I am VERY happy to announce that I've had a bit of a play on the Admin CP, and as far as I'm aware we're all set to allow registrations in again.

You wouldn't have noticed this, but I actually opened the boards up last night to see what would happen, and I don't think we've had any new spambots register. I would urge you all to keep your eyes peeled for any strange activity. Use the report button and we'll be able to sort it ASAP.

Just to dispel a few urban myths I've heard about second-hand, we weren't targeted by Americans with hidden agendas. They were certainly spambots, as all the accounts followed similar patterns and didn't make any legible sense. So, any mere notion that people were a bit peeved due to the locations of our Moderation team can stop right there. Pure fabrication.

So yeah, if you had any friends you wanted to invite to the boards, invite away. We should be clear for the time being :D

They sure are. But what can you do. Good friends are so hard to find these days.

Sblam! http://sblam.com/en.html

Open-source implementation of server-side spam filtering of blog comments and forum posts.

look at nucaptcha http://www.nucaptcha.com/

It is different than other services because it uses a video-based CAPTCHA and can adapt to easy challenges for legitimate users and difficult ones for attackers.

I believe I've got it sorted now, we've not had an attack for a while.

I shall bear those in mind should something pop up though, thanks ^_^
