Chickaroo Reviews: Sly 2: Band of Thieves (PS2 / PS3)

Post by chickaroo1 »

After the first outing with the Sly Gang, people wanted more adventures and answers. One year later, the Sly Gang is back!

Game: Sly 2: Band of Thieves
Systems: PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3
Release Dates: PS2: 9/14/04 (NA), 10/29/04 (EU), 6/16/05 (JP)
PS3: 11/9/10 (NA), 12/3/10 (EU), 1/27/11 (JP)
Developers: Sucker Punch Productions

The Search is On!
Story: As Sly breaks in to the Museum of Natural History to take the Clockwerk parts, he learns that another group of thieves have stolen them called the Klaww Gang. So now Sly, Bentley and Murray are on the hunt for the Clockwerk parts while trying to avoid Carmelita and her new partner Constable Neyla.

Now THIS is Much Better!
Gameplay: The game is still a stealthy action platformer. In each “episode”, there is a main hub world and all you have to do is do a mission instead of it being a little room you go to. Players now have the freedom to play as Sly, Bentley and Murray whenever. Each character has their own missions depending on the situation. As well as they also have new unlockable moves for each of them that you can purchase with the coins you have collected.
Sly still is the most athletic of the gang and can easily climb up poles, cliffs, rooftops, ect. As well as having his own set of moves to knock out enemies quicker or use a parachute for easier landing from up above. He can get around a lot easier.
Bentley can use sleep darts to knock out enemies and bomb them or some missions require him to use an RC Chopper to get the job done.
Murray can punch, belly flop and stomp his way past enemies as well as lift heavy objects.

Sharper and Crisper
Graphics: It’s a lot better here than the last game. It’s not so blocky and everything pops perfectly. Environments looks perfectly cartoony as it should be.

Crank Up The Jazz!
Music: The music here is a lot more on spy-jazz music and it fits the mood of the game perfectly. Especially in each environment, it fits nicely.
Music is composed by Peter McConnel

Better Than The First?
Overall: Sly 2: Band of Thieves is a major improvement over the first game. Lots to do, not too difficult (except for a few missions that will make you want to throw a chair out a window.) The story is better this time around, plot twists and all. I prefer this much more than the first.
