A New Trilogy Begins
Story: As Ratchet and Clank are fixing up a hoverbike, they receive a call from Captain Qwark. He pleads for help since his home is being attacked by a robotic army. The duo head to the scene and discover the person behind the attack is Emperor Tachyon, prince of the Cragmites. He reveals his plan to kill Rachet for being the last of his kind (the Lombaxes). As Ratchet and Clank flee from the scene and decide to learn more about Tachyon. As they’re doing research, Clank starts to see little creatures known as the Zoni. Also they meet Talwyn Apogee, who aids them in their search.
Upgraded
Gameplay:Though it’s a new game for a new system,Tools of Destructionplays like the older games but with a little more to offer. Basically, more weapons. There are alot of weapons to get here. And for the most part, they’re all upgrade-able.
The game is still a platformer. Now there’s more puzzles to do and things to buy. Not only that but now you have some options on what to say to some people to get more information. It’s a neat thing.
Fancy weapons make an appearance here. My favorite has to be the Groovitron. It’s a disco ball that makes enemies dance along to some funky music!
But yeah its your typical platformer. Nothing wrong with that.
It's Almost Like Pixar
Graphics: Since this is a new console with them fancy graphics, critics called it a “Pixar experience” (I’m telling you right now, the later Ratchet & Clank games are more Pixar like). Here, the graphics almost seem plastic-y. Especially Ratchet. But hey, it looks better than the PlayStation 2 graphics.
The Epic Soundtrack
Music: The music is relatively good. Not that memorable as the PS2 era, but good. Also, the Groovitron music is the best of the best. Even the end credits music is good.
Music is composed by David Bergeaud.
The Start of a New Trilogy: Off to a Good Start?
Overall: Tools of Destruction does a lot right. It looks better, has a good story from start to finish, new and memorable characters and so forth. Though it’s not one of my favorites in the series, it’s still good and worth playing.
I would like to point out some glitches. There is an HDD glitch that the game says that you don’t have enough room in your system for a save file. And another glitch that the audio won’t sync up with the cutscenes.
Other than that, a good game.
4/5
