Chickaroo Reviews - Tomb Raider 3 (PS1)

Post by chickaroo1 »

It’s 1998 and Lara Croft is on top of the world. With millions of copies of games sold, being on the cover of magazines, she was quite the busy celebrity! And now she’s on her third adventure in a row!Game: Tomb Raider III
Systems: PlayStation, PC, PlayStation Network, Mac
Release Dates: Windows / PS1: 11/21/98 (NA), 11/23/98 (UK), 3/4/99 (JP)
Developers: Core Design
More Adventuring!!!
Story: Lara Croft is at it again! And this time, she’s on the hunt for 4 pieces of a meteorite scattered across the globe. She’ll have to go through the deep jungles of India, the crazy islands in the South Pacific and much more! You’ll just have to play and find out about her adventures!
Hm. This Looks Familiar
Gameplay: So. Here’s a bit of deja vu for you. The gameplay is pretty much the same as the last game. I’m not kidding. The controls are also the same. Now granted Lara does have some new moves. She can now sprint but for only a short amount of time. She can also crouch, “monkey swing” over bars, and do the same moves as she could before.
Now here’s another kick in the balls. This time, we have save crystals instead of saving anywhere we want like in Tomb Raider 2. You can collect the save crystals and use them to save the game. BUT, if you don’t have any, then tough luck. Now granted, the PC version doesn’t have the save crystals, but since this is the PlayStation version, we have these damn crystals.
Lara still has her signature pistols, but she can still get more weapons as the game goes on and whatnot.
A Little Bit Better?
Graphics: While being a little bit the same as the last game, the environments and Lara’s model looks a tad bit better. It still looks like the last game though.
Eh, It’s Empty
Music: Just as usual, there isn’t much music during the game. The theme song is a bit of a remix of the first game’s theme song.
Music is composed by Nathan McCree.
Another Successful Game?
Overall: Tomb Raider III is still pretty good, but it’s just the same as the last game almost. It’s still challenging and difficult, and Lara only has a few new moves. Voices are hard to hear during cutscenes. It’s just an okay game. Is Lara’s reputation going downhill..?
