Mr. Burns is At It Again!
Story: The story today is that Mr. Burns has bought all of the transit systems in Springfield and now has made radioactive buses that threaten the health of the public. So now it’s up to the citizens to carpool and use their own cars to travel around Springfield.
Hey This Gameplay Looks Quite Familiar…
Gameplay: The game is a huge parody of SEGA’s Crazy Taxi. The goal of most stages is to deliver as many passengers to their destination before time runs out. At the beginning of the game, you only have a few characters to play as and only one car to each character as well as only a few locations of the city of Springfield to drive through.
Now let’s talk about the core gameplay. Now like I said, it’s very similar to Crazy Taxi. Heck, it’s pretty much just a rip-off. But that doesn’t make it bad. Your goal for most missions is to make a lot of money as much as possible by delivering random citizens to their destinations. Driving around is alright. The only good part about the driving is the drifting. It’s very smooth and very nice to pull off. Driving does feel a bit weird but you’ll get used to it. Control wise, it’s alright. Each car for each character can either be really fast or really slow. The bigger the car, the more slow it will be.
What Happened to Them??
Graphics: Good lord this game has not aged well. The way everyone looks is just kind of ugly. Granted, they still look like their cartoon counterpart but it’s just an absolute mess. Especially when you’re out driving. It’s hard to see the buildings and some citizens too. The buildings look plain and bleh. Just the character models look weird. Had the game been cel-shaded, it would’ve looked amazing.
Snap Them Yellow Fingers
Music: The music here is really good. They’re calming and jazzy. The main theme song in the menus is a nice jazzy mix of the theme song. They’re really nice to listen to.
Should You Take a Stroll Through Springfield?
Overall: Simpsons: Road Rage is an alright game. It is humorous and fun but there isn’t much to do. The driving is nice and drifting is great but that aside, it’s almost an empty game. And here’s a little fun fact, SEGA actually tried to sue Radical Entertainment and Electronic Arts because of how similar it is to Crazy Taxi. But all in all, an alright game.
