Post by chickaroo1 »

Professor Layton is here in his first 3DS game! Will this entry be as good as the previous entries? Let’s find out with a puzzle!Game: Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask
Systems: Nintendo 3DS
Release Dates: 2/26/11 (JP), 10/26/12 (EU), 10/27/12 (AUS), 10/28/12 (NA)
Developers: Level-5
Enter the Mask of Chaos
Story: Layton, his assistant Luke and Emmy head to the town of Monte d'Or, a town that’s colorful and in the middle of a big festival. When they arrive, the place gets attacked by a strange man wearing what’s known as the Mask of Chaos. Layton recognizes the mask, as back during his school years, his friend Randall had been looking for it. After the fiasco, the man gets away. While in town, Layton and gang meet up with one of his past friends, Angela as they discuss the recent attack and who owns the mask. It’s up to Layton to solve the mysteries!
Puzzle Solving to the Max!
Gameplay: The main gameplay is solving puzzles as you go around Monte d’Or. Not only are there puzzles, but there are even mini-games to play that you can unlock throughout the game.
Here’s how walking around town works. The bottom screen is used to tap around the map and as well the place / area you are in. Tapping around can get you hint coins (which can be used during puzzles if you get stuck) and as well as talk to people, which may or may not activate a puzzle.
Puzzles vary on what the situation is. There’s just all kinds of puzzles. Some are pretty challenging and some can be a little easy, it all depends on your skills.
There are also other things to do besides puzzles. There’s a few mini-games to play. Luke can raise and train a bunny or do a puzzle at a grocery store to convince people to buy items. There is much to do in Miracle Mask.
The Nice Blend of 2D and 3D
Graphics: The graphics are really good. The 3D models look really nice and beautiful. The 2D cutscenes are stunning and beautiful. Level-5 delivers the best looking 2D cutscenes for a handheld console such as the 3DS.
Classic Sounding
Music: The music here is pretty good. It sounds wonderful and has a classy feeling to it. The music that plays while you solve puzzles is very cool but may get old after a while.
Music is composed by Tomohito Nishiura.
What Puzzling Adventures Awaits You?
Overall: Miracle Mask is a pretty solid game. Good story, good gameplay, tricky puzzles and much more. The voice acting is pretty good too. All in all, a very good game for the 3DS.
