Can't really see why it's on DS though. Reusing assets, sure, but...well, it's commendable that Ninty are still trying to support the DS and its userbase, but there is a time when you're supposed to let go. I do leave you with this to muse on though: The word was that Kirby Mass Attack was to be the last Nintendo-developed DS game to release in Europe, so where does that leave Black/White 2?
Reused assets are definitely going to be the biggest reason. It allows for quick development at little cost. I mean, we all thought a Grey was coming. In a way this is just an evolution of the third entry.
My biggest problem is, I just don't see the point. I don't see what they can add to a direct sequel if it takes place in the same region.
Isn't the DS the best selling console ever or something though? May as well get some more easy cash out of the market, especially when you can just recycle and tweak an old game.
Perhaps they're trying out something. Perhaps the 2 games will be able to interact which each other and you are able to perhaps swap pokemons and stuff.

Why the hell am I here? I've never played a Pokemon game in my life...

3DS will get Gen VI.
I mean, I guess it makes sense. Yes, a Pokemon would be a major system seller, so the DS's already large install base doesn't really mean much. But the 3DS already has a steady stream of first party games coming out for it. Probably better to announce Gen VI when they have less stuff already coming out.
Hang on, ignoring the whole DS vs 3DS debate; how the heck does a direct Pokémon sequel work? "I'm Pokémon League Champion! I've defeated Team Plasma! I guess now I'll...I'll...Um...Do it again from scratch?"
Are Game Freak daring to try a new storyline?! I'm going to have to keep an eye on this...
