Y'know technically speaking, Gen 2 was a direct sequel to Gen 1. I can imagine it being somewhat similar to that, only without the new region.
edit: well, of course they're all sequels, its the same world and there is a time line. Just that Gen 2 is the only one that directly carries on from another Gens events.
