So I found this video which I thought was interesting and talks about why Sonic boom was bad.

Honestly seems like BRB wasn't at fault here. More like SEGA done goofed again.

"Sonic Boom: What The D'Fekt Is This Sh*t"

(I gave my starting two cents on this game in Quills' 25 Sonic Anniversary thread by the way)

I can understand the outrage after the first 2 Sonic Boom games. No one asked for this.

In the press release they mention that the cartoon itself is doing well, which is like good for it, but this isn't Adventure Time where you can try and slap some game out to take advantage of it's popularity. Sonic Boom already had 2 games and they bombed, the cartoon doing well probably isn't going to do much for it, just distance yourself away from the games and maybe focus more on where it's popular.

I personally don't get all the hate for the 3DS game. It wasn't brilliant but it had some nice platforming moments. As Sanzaru Games' Mat Kraemer said on The SEGA Lounge, they didn't have enough time to do everything they wanted. Maybe in a sequel they can improve on the not that bad original title.

The trailer areasy seems to show improved sense of speed and boss battles, which is a start. And they already said the levels will be more streamlined, so maybe it can be more enjoyable. Again, though, this isn't for the "core" Sonic fanbase, whoever they are. It's directed at the kids who watch the cartoon/merch.

I played the demo and it was a painfully boring game, an overly large stage with pace killing character swapping and bad minigames. After I was done with it I moved on to some terrible shovelware Asterix demo I'd downloaded and had slightly more fun with that. Nothing is worse for a game than to be boring.

The same kids who didn't buy the first game? If the sales thread is anything to go buy the 3DS version wasn't even the popular one (though only by a margin).

edit: though I guess they're hoping that the bad sales of the first one was just because they cartoon hadn't kicked off yet. They're smart at least to distance themselves away from the Wii U version and the guys that made it.
