I've got a Galaxy SII and it easily works without kias.
I don't use ANY apps to transfer files into the phone...

Nor does the Galaxy Nexus as I had one of those for a few days.
I don't even have Kies installed as it interferes with Odin and could cause a brick when flashing a new rom from within windows.
