I'd assume he means R4 and custom firmware. No idea about who profits from it though unless it's some kind of dig at places like gamestation and gamestop.

I think he means that he doesn't agree with people that make copies of games and then sell them, like at markets or some such.

That's how I bought my Dreamcast games back in the day.

Sorry, let me explain:
I don't usually follow pirated games that come out on consoles or PCs.
For handhelds, I adopt the "try and buy" method. it's how I bought The World Ends With You and Etrian Odyssey.
Just like CapnCloudchaser said, there are people who sell new games at really cheap prices. People shouldn't profit off pirating games i think.

Did i say it wasn't? It's just that I'm not paying £20 each for 3 & 4 >.>

Short attention span? I can't play the same game each day every day, i like variety & I'm sure others do

Cba to argue with anyone else, i stated my opinions & what i do so that's that

Pretty sure you need to have a point to defend before you can argue.

Obviously you were trying to get at something, and frankly i'm not going to bite. I stated where I stand and that's that this thread isn't meant for people to judge others.

On-Topic:

There was a lot of that when the PS1 was out, most of my sister's games were bought that way even.. Back then even though I didn't think much of the whole pirating thing, I still wanted the actual copies cause they came in shiny cases with instruction maunals and art on the disc. Burnt copies just came in little paper slips. That's no fun. :P

I don't see any problems with my question. Unless you think there's more than one answer.

On the other hand there are certain problems that arise that make people think it's abit more gray than it is

Impossible to Get New
I'll start with this one because it's the one I'm also guilty of. Do I feel bad about it? Not really. Of course it's still wrong, but when I think of who my money would go to if I were to buy a proper version I really can't find it in me to want to give some random dude who had no part in the making of the product my cash.

Try before you Buy
This isn't handled particulary well right now. Too many publishers think a trailer is enough when it really isn't since it gives no indication of how the controls are and how it feels to play. Demos themselves are far too rare, for the most part they work. Don't be suckered into the disclaimer about it not being a finished product, demos don't usually differ gameplay wise too much between demo and retail, there may be a few kinks here and there but it's easy to find out if they were fixed without stealing the game. That said they may hide portions of gameplay that maybe you don't like or was more interested in seeing if it worked. HMV seem to have smartened up and have booths which you can play the full game on, though it could do with better rotation, mine has had The Sims 3 and DJ Hero 2 on for what seems like forever. But then again there's renting.

This is the problem with your question, and thus why it'll stay unanswered by me. You say that Matty's "excuses" were "pretty weak" and when challenged on it you didn't explain in the least why. Stealing a tv is not the same as the game piracy debate in it's entirety -and not only that, but I think it's pretty rude to be judging people when the OP explicitly asked not to.

You ever considered how many times people have had that exact (and rather lazy imo) question thrown at them? It's not helpful or productive, all it does in the end is just annoy, frustrate and discourage people from talking about the subject at all because they're sick of others doing what you did.
If you're gonna judge people fine, but least you could have done is put away the gavel and kept it off the thread.

You make a fair point, I've already talked about the two main things. Regardless not being able to afford something just isn't a good excuse.

But on the other hand I couldn't care less about being rude to pirates, so.

Look, while I understand where you're coming from and that affordability isn't a good reason in your eyes, that's you. That's fine.

But again, the point of the thread was for people to throw in thier two bucks and not be judged for it, and whether or not you personally care about treating others fairly based solely on whether or not they're pirated something (which you've done, yourself) Is... well.. Pretty hypocritcal.

Soooo....? Again I repeat. Not okay. Not in a thread that says not to.
