You want someone's programming talent being wasted? Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 2D. That's talent being wasted.

...

is that actually a thing?

i'd probably play that. Though if it's not any good then talent isn't really being wasted!

Yes, it exists. XD

The programmers for that one want to make it as close to 2006 as possible i.e. the actual game, but in 2D. So I would say that they are committed to recreating the original game, but then again...it's 2006. :p

Is there really a game from 2006 really worth re-creating? Besides OutRun 2006 and MVP 06, I can't think of one. And that's not limited to SEGA.
Beware of your mind as it proves you wrong...

Well there were some amazing games released in 2006, though they don't really need "recreating". Except Mother 3, if it was recreated with an English release.

To be honest, I'm surprised a playable demo was even released. I swear this thing has been talked about since the start of the internet, and never really seemed to have any progress made. Though honestly it seems like another promising fan project that the creators will eventually lose interest in an remain unfinished.

I thought this had already happened actually until you started the thread about it.

Eh, in my opinion I didn't get the hype big deal with that one. It looks good, but for some reason....it felt like there was too many things going on at once. It was like the background was taken more into account than the gameplay. I doubt I'll see that being completed over 2 HD.

EDIT: Finished playing the build, and I got to stress this out; the fan-game looks visually amazing. The sparkling sea, the vibrant flowers, the plam trees...way more lively than the original while still maintaining the vibe of good 'ol Emerald Hill.

The way Sonic controls...something seems off, like his jump feels way to light...but other than that he plays damn good. The level transitions are well done as well. The boss was nothing special, yet the music was good.

The little 'easter eggs' as they are called made me smile.
