This. I agree with it completely.Gonic wrote:Same can be said about pokemon in all fairness. It normally ends with team rocket blast of at the speed of lightHowever i never thought of digimon having a weak story. Seasons 3 was fantastic and very dark (even for a kids show). Buts that's just my opinion
Also, I admit Digimon also has it's few odd looking digimon but really, every show has that.
On the other hand, Pokemon has just gone random. Pokemon used to be based on Dragons, turtles and dinosaurs... now they're based on gears, ice cream cones and whatever else that looks like it could move if given 2 eyes...
Rather, I think what Digimon fails at is coming up with half decent names. That's my only complaint about the show. The story is perfectly fine(much more complex then Pokemon, that's for sure) but those names... a lot of them are just short versions of what they actually are(E.g. Seadramon = Sea Dragon digimon. I'll let you guess Birdramon and airdramon...). And some digivolutions and digimon just have the name of a previous digimon but with an extra word (Black Agumon, Toy Agumon, Neo Greymon, Skull greymon.).
But again, as much as Digimon sucks with coming up with interesting names, Pokemon sucks with creating interest new pokemon.
Well remember Digimon was actually created to sell a line of Tamagotchi toys that came out in the mid 90's so the show and everything else is technically a giant milk machine to begin with to sell toys.mtwinny wrote:The merchandise. The games. Hell even the manga. It's a cash cow franchise on that part. Maybe that's it's still going strong.
Everyone loves the first series but if you watch the first few episodes they actually sucked. Why? it was supposed to be a short-live show to sell toys but it became more populaur than they expected so they made more episodes and jumped into other markets with the Digimon brand to exploit it as much as possible to sell...more toys! (games, manga, ect) xD
They reason why Nintendo jumped into other markets with the pokemon brand was not because it became somewhat popular like Digimon, it literally became a global phenomenon that helped define a generation and took the video game industry by storm. Nintendo would be stupid if they didnt jump into other markets to exploit it.
EDIT: A good example of this is the Angry Birds series for this generation.
