Interestingly, the earliest known example of it is an Ukiyo-e (Woodblock) painting from 1814 called "Tako to ama" ("Octopus and Shell Diver"). It's sometimes also known as "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife". Although in that painting it seems to be a mutually consensual act.
