Businessweek attributes the shift in balance to changing consumer trends:

“More consumers would rather play games within their social networks, rather than heading to a store to buy a shrink-wrapped program. That’s forced Electronic Arts to cut jobs and seek acquisitions for growth. Its shares have dropped 7.4 percent since March 1.”

who would of thought that I would of ever felt sorry for EA...

I've never actually played Farmville to be honest. I've seen a video of it and it just diodn't seem like my cup of tea. I read this, this morning and it shocked me. I knew it was big but I didn't realise just how big.
