Based on feedback from the IRC on Friday night, we're going to be having more themed shows going forward! The plan is now to only do a Late and Live Mix (i.e. a normal show) on the first Friday of the month, along with the Listener Mix, as is the case now, on the final Friday. The weeks in the middle are free for themed shows - and because of this, the long awaited Lounge Mix show is now airing four weeks earlier than before, plus you've got a Chiptune Mix and a Vocal Mix to look forward to in June!

Hmmm.....nice suggestions! How about these ?
Now not sure if this going to get much positive reaction be I've been looking at the previous "Late and Live" episodes and see you don't really get that much tracks in there from yourself. Now I know about 13-15 tracks can get played and the listeners can contribute but maybe you can allow about a third of those tracks to be from you? Again, this is just an observation of probably of balancing out the "Late and Live" episodes only.
Now there have been lots of "Not Quite" editions of RS shows, and you yourself made one with Late and Live: Early Edition. Now, this "primetime" version may be just a one time thing but maybe, juuust maybe there could be another edition but just for a really special occurrence?
And that's it for now ^^

It's interesting you mention about how much of the show is listener requests. I've always felt that listener input is invaluable (that's partly why this thread and this current discussion exists!). Without listeners the show is nothing so I think it's vitally important to involve the listeners in the show and for them to help select the music to be played every week. However, I, like yourself, feel that I should also have some input too. This is actually why I have the DJ mixes in the schedule so that once every ten weeks I'll pick a selection of music for you guys. The benefit of the DJ mixes is that we can also have a proper dance mix every so often. Late and Live was conceived as a dance show, but that isn't a realistic, viable show, hence the change for it being a party mix. For better or worse, some people won't ever 'get' the concept of the show (like the person who requested a ballad once!) so I like the idea of keeping the dance shows to myself.
I'd be interested to see what people think about this though. The idea of a DJ mix, with no requests, makes me feel a little uneasy in some ways, but it does allow me to have more influence on the show every so often and then, other than the listener mix shows, we can share the load in other weeks. Would others rather I had more input on a week by week basis, rather than do a dance-based DJ mix?
On the second point, personally, I'm not a massive fan of the 'Not Quite' concept. Nothing against others that do it, but it's not really for me. As is proved by the fact that the next 15 weeks themes of shows are already set, I'd much prefer to be organised massively ahead of time so I know what I'm doing and the listeners know what I'm doing. The reason I don't have it against others is that I'm able to do that as I have next to no social life - the other DJs on the station are a lot cooler than me and do!
However, I do have a plan in the back of my mind that if there are weeks that SEGA AGES isn't on the air, then we'd do another Early Edition show if people dug the concept. Personally, I didn't think the first Early Edition show was that good and needs some re-tooling for next time. However, I'd be very happy to do it again - after all, the album art for Early Edition is a lot better than that of the main show - it deserves to be showcased!
Thanks for getting in touch and I'd be interested to see what people think about the DJ Mix/greater involvement from me week-by-week argument.
As I see it, the DJ Mixes are entirely your thing, so I talked with my brother on that. It's your show and I always thought having your own thing provides entertaining music that you yourself have chosen. In fact, your show is the only RadioSEGA show current to do that (if I'm correct), and I personally enjoy those shows.ResidentSD wrote:Thanks for those suggestions.

As for the "Not Quite" concept....I never figured you would do that....it's not really your style. The Early Edition shows are nice incentives as well. The first one was...well-NOT upbeat like the normal shows, that's what I want of a "Not Quite" Late and Live. Of cousre, it was entirely out of habit that SEGA AGES wasn't on, so when you do your "Early Edition" shows depends on whether or not a show isn't on Friday?

I must admit I really enjoy the DJ Mixes, they are amongst some of my favourite shows. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and hear one persons devised playlist. Dont get me wrong I love request's (and requesting!) but there's a certain 'flow' to shows that have just one person's input. Also one of the main reasons I enjoy all of the show's here on RadioSega is the discovery of new music and sometimes requests can be counter productive to that. Those 60mins of awesomeness are precious!
However to cover my own ass i'll say; some songs just can't be requested enough!
Keep up the good work and I'll keep on partying!

I'll be honest - I've been surprised that people like the concept of DJ Mixes so much, but it seems people do so I'll keep on doing them!i need fruit wrote:I must admit I really enjoy the DJ Mixes, they are amongst some of my favourite shows. Here's another!
I've noticed you been playing music that has never either been been played on any RS LiVE show or hasn't been played on RadioSEGA at all. Do you think if there's new SEGA music that you've found, maybe perhaps you can play them as "RadioSEGA World Premieres?"

We could do something like that, yeah. The 'deliberate', planned premieres will pretty much always be on Saturday Night SEGA, what with it being the flagship show. But we do have our first runs too (erm - SEGA MasterMix '90!) and, in fact, I will definitely be bringing you some 'first time' tracks on my DJ mix this Friday!mtwinny wrote:Here's another!

I shall certainly think about that one! Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello, me again!
So I've finally gotten to episode 3 of Late & Recorded (Yeah, still 2 or 3 months behind, but slowly catching up!), and I was shocked to hear my name just now!
I nearly dropped my sandwich at work when I heard that!
Starstruck!!!!!

And no probs that you got my location wrong, ResSD. We all make mistakes... just usually not live on the radio
BTW, I love Late & Live/Recorded! It's much more dancey and upbeat than SNS, so the ratio of songs that I actually like has been higher. Shame it's only 1 hour. But then again, any longer and it'd take me even more time to catch up! Only 70 miscellaneous podcasts from the last few months to go till I clear my backlog!
Anyway, keep up the good work ResSD!
