What? Every metroid is a sequel except for the prime games that take place before the original.Biggest sonic fan wrote:speaking of time lines and game stories, I must say that Metroid has probably one of the strangest time lines I've seen. Usually, when a new game of the franchise appears, it happens after the previous game but Metroid's games happen all in different times.

Right, knowing is not caring, it's called being able to count.mtwinny wrote:And I thought people didn't care for timelines.
No, they don't. Intact the industry as a whole is almost going out of it's way to prove they don't. Unless it's Atlus or NISA.Dr Shaneman wrote:Timelines matter, the otaku say so and they're the ones who shell out the most money.
Edit: fans and gamers that is, Otaku are Japans waste society and only a handful of debs care about them and they make dating sims.

You mentioned the part in your second to last about "learning how to count," and for some reason that reminded me of how games would have multiple installments with some or little to no improvements.
For instance Metroid,(and before I say anything else, I never played the games so there) when I see gameplay of the its many installments, I see the same corridors, same gameplay and I say ugh...

Games with multiple instalments are called a series, they're usually numbered which is how you place it on a timeline. That trope is about the same game getting new editions, but Street Fighter II Turbo Edition is still Street Fighter II.mtwinny wrote:You mentioned the part in your second to last about "learning how to count," and for some reason that reminded me of how games would have multiple installments with some or little to no improvements.

Metroid is simple but since it seems to be hard for some people to grasp let me explain it; Metroid is the first game so comes first. Metroid II, is obviously the second game and thus takes place after. Super Metroid could be a bit of a confuser since I don't believe it ever refers to itself as Metroid 3, but thankfully it has a needlessly long text scrawl that explains the events of II and how it ties into Super. Prime and Fusion were released at around the same time, I can't quite remember if it's ever fully mentioned it's supposed to be a sequel but if you're going for 100% you need to scan all the lore which alludes to the main bad guys having no idea who Samus is. Fusion refers to itself as Metroid IV in the opening text. Zero Mission could confuse because of the Zero but really it's just a remake of Metroid. Other M is the last game in the series at present and the less said about that the better.
You've never played Metroid? I'm sorry to hear that, Super Metroid (and to a lesser extent Metroid Prime) is one of the greatest games ever made. There are improvements in the sequels but the game was already a masterpiece that they're only small ones.
Edit rolling it back to Sonic CD: Again the thing with Sonic CD is that there's no reason to move Sonic CD in the timeline. You know a series I love? Mario. But if Nintendo announced a port of Mario 2 US and in the press release stated that Mario 2 US now takes place after Mario World because they're about to release New Super Mario Bros. Wii 2 with Wart as the main villain I'd have the exact same response to that.
