The general consensus is normally GMail these days. To be honest, now I'm using a smaller screen (I've just transitioned from a desktop to a laptop), I'm not liking the Yahoo! Mail UI. I too agree with using GMail, it's simple, isn't cluttered and it's ideal for keeping things organized (like color-coding what email goes where if you want). Though I mostly use that account for school-related things.
