Sounds like the demo is giving the devteam a few hiccups. Maybe they might add more features as time goes on. I recall that Adventure had tons of things going on left and right. Even with classic 2D it is an active in-game world.

Sonic Boom is just a hateful bore of a game, that seems to exist only as a showcase for every mistake you could possibly make when creating a 3D action adventure.

well nothing that has shown really contradicts their preview, and they even threw lost worlds a bone which is more than it deserved.

So far these previews are mixed to slightly negative. BRB knows this.

If the game craps out they always have the merch and cartoon to fall back on.

Which really just means the cartoon as people aren't likely to want merch of something that's bad.

So by extension and the logic I'm seeing, if the merch also ties into the cartoon as well, then what's the point?

Nah if the cartoon is good, the merch will be wanted. And if the merch and cartoon is wanted, it'll probably lure people into buying the game too.

Well yes, but that assumes that the cartoon is good. If it's not, and the game is bad then any merchandise isn't going to be wanted. Unless people really love the designs for some reason.

I've gotta say, Sonic Boom is the first Sonic game in, well, ever that I haven't looked forward to.

I had actually been looking forward to it until I saw the E3 footage, and holy damn the combat looks awful. The platforming looks pretty good. The character designs and voice acting are obnoxious, but tolerable. But the combat is going to get very boring very quickly.
