Chickaroo Reviews - Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F (PS3)

Post by chickaroo1 »

Miku has finally arrived for the first time in America and Europe! Will her game survive in the west as it does in Japan? Let’s find out!

Game: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F / Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f
Systems: PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita
Release Dates: Vita: 8/30/12 (JP), 3/4/14 (NA), 3/12/14 (EU)
PS3: 3/7/13 (JP), 8/27/13 (NA), 9/4/13 (EU)
Developers: SEGA and Crypton Future Media

Mash To The Rhythm!
Gameplay: This is yes indeedy, a rhythm game. And quite a fun one too. There are many things to do here besides the actual core gameplay. You can customize the six characters room’s or buy them snacks and chill with them. But let’s talk about the actual game.
Since this is a rhythm game, there are songs to play. There are a total of 44 songs, most of them performed by Miku herself or some of her friends. Once you pick a song, you can pick who you want to perform and which outfit or accessory they will wear. Once you get that sorted, then off you go!
Now, to the fun part: hitting the buttons in time. In the background, a music video plays and all of a sudden, buttons are flying at the screen! You will notice that 4 of them look like the main 4 buttons on a PS3 controller: X, Circle, Triangle and Square. Another one will be a star, that's when you flick the analog stick up. Another one will be with a colored arrow, that's when you hit the D-pad (whichever direction the arrow is facing) as well as the button it request for you to press.
There are a total of 4 modes: easy, normal, hard and expert. Easy is relatively easy, normal and hard tests your timing and reflexes and expert is just...too extreme.
Other things to do besides mashing buttons to the music is hang out with the characters themselves. An option in the main menu is the “DIVA Room” where you can be in one of the character’s rooms and give them gifts and deck out their room...and also poke them.
You can also make your own music video and game to play of all things. It’s sort of a complicated process which makes it more of a program you’d buy for your PC. Not exactly the best thing to use on a console.

3D Anime
Graphics: The graphics here are pretty good and smooth. Good in the details department as well as how the music videos look. All the characters look bright and colorful.

Crank Up the J-Pop
Music: As you would expect, there are songs on here. All sung by either Miku herself and / or her friends Luka, Rin, Len, Kaito, and Meiko. But for the most part, it’s all Miku. Most songs are good (if not, really good) and there’s much variety to them. There’s some extra songs and some songs from past games. I’m sure you’ll find your favorite.

A Funky Rhythm Game for All to Enjoy?
Overall: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F is a pretty fun game. Solid gameplay. smooth graphics, good soundtrack, so on and so forth. I barely have any complaints about this game. It looks confusing the first time around but trust me, you’ll adapt and like it.
