UK VAT Increase

Post by Kaito-kun »

Just a reminder to UK citizens that the VAT on goods and services is increasing by 2.5% to the new total if 20% on the 4th of January. If there's anything you've had your eye on then I suggest buying soon. I personally will be going on a DVD/Blu-Ray shopping binge in the week between Christmas and the New Year.

It won't affect my purchases, since all the games I want will be out later anyway. I'm not really interested in buying anything else. This VAT increase may be an incentive to save.

VAT won't affect you at all when it comes to buying smaller items.

Not sure if you noticed, but companies raised the RRP on stuff like CDs and DVDs ever so slightly, so you paid the same price at 15% VAT as you did when it was 17.5%. When the VAT rises to 20%, they'll lower the RRP. You're not going to save any money, but at the same time you won't be spending any more either.

Now, if you were buying something bigger, like..a car, or a house, you'd feel it. But for CDs, DVDs or games, don't fret. Nothing will change.
