Games you may not know of

Post by Wrath Oskvro »

So basically it works like this. Sort it by system, mention a game that gets very little recognition, when it really should. Feel free to talk a bit about it, maybe give it a little summary of why you like it. For this particular post, I'm going to focus on Sega CD.

Alot of people think all the Sega CD has to offer is Sonic CD and Snatcher. Couldn't be farther from the truth.

Robo Aleste- Very awesome shooter with very awesome music. It's often compared to the amazing MUSHA. I'm not sure if it was made by the same developers or not. I could have swore that both were made by Seismic but apparently Robo Aleste was done by Compile? Either way. Good stuff. Very intense and challenging.

Lords Of Thunder- Another shooter with great graphics for the time and a stellar soundtrack comparable to Guilty Gear X only you can tell it was made in the 90s. :P Very addictive shooter that lets you pick different elements to use, you can upgrade each element, and you can buy upgrades like Revive, health upgrades, etc. You also can upgrade your weapon obviously by picking them up in the playfield. The bosses are effing gigantic and very detailed, and You're not horizontally scrolling 24/7. The direction in which the level will take you will often change. Oh and the level design is brilliant. I've said in another thread that this is in my top 3 favorite shmups of all time. Also a notable mention that it's actually a port from the Turbografx-16 CD, and alot of people bash it just because the soundtrack doesn't sound as good and it isn't nearly as difficult. Honestly, I prefer the Sega CD version's remastered soundtrack, and even though it isn't as difficult, it will still kick your ass.

Final Fight CD- It's Final Fight, but it's probably the coolest console version of it from the 90s. Excellent revamped music, the graphics are almost spot on, and you can play as all 3 characters. And Poison is also in there.

Popful Mail- This one is actually on Turbografx and SNES too, but I'm not sure which came first. Either way it's a very cool little platformer mixed with an RPG.

Sonic Megamix- This is actually a homebrew. It's very buggy in some spots but that doesn't stop it from being awesome. It goes extremely fast, uses alot of background sprites from the Sonic Advance games, and you can choose between Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Mighty, and Tails.

They have :P Any Genesis fan has. Nowadays, the Michael Jackson name might turn some people off of it though who don't already know of it. It's not too bad though. I dig it too.

Most people I know will only know that wii game that's recently been released. I hate it that even some good games like NiGHTS are unheard of. When I asked at an old retro game shop (the only place in the area to sell Mega Drive,Dreamcast and Saturn games) and they just all looked me blankly

Yeah, it's a shame Nights never really went anywhere. If it were on either the Genesis or the Dreamcast and not the Saturn, I think it would have been a much more successful title.

Being a big fighting gamer, it's also a shame that it seems like nobody on the face of the earth knows what One Must Fall 2097 for the PC is. It's an old MS DOS fighting game where you pick a pilot and a robot, and fight with the robots. Sounds a little cliche, but there's one difference. It's the only robot fighting game that I've played that was actually done right for a change. They did everything right.

I loved Final Fight on the MegaCD, the soundtrack was great as well.

Not many people seem to have heard of Sega RPG's, which is weird, since some of them are still going. Saturn ones like Dragon Force practically doesn't exist I've found.

This is the fun about being a Sonic fan! There is always something new you find out about something that you never knew about.
I never knew there was a game called Sonic Megamix and since the last time you named the game, I was really curies to find out what this game is.
Anybody care to explain a bit more? I know that it's not an official Sonic game but I still need a lot more info about it.

You need to use a MegaDrive emulator. Sonic Megamix is surprisingly awesome for a fan game.
