Being free isn't some magical shield against criticism.

I probably won't download the Alpha demo. I'll wait until the full game is released.

While I don't mind the game, this project -in my opinion- has gone for too long. WAY too long. If I'm not wrong, I heard about this like... 1 or 2 years ago. They should have been half done with the game AT LEAST.

Other then that, while I like the visual and the cleanness, I would stay that I still prefer Sonic Fan Remix.

I just played it. It plays almost identical to the original, and it looks great with good animation.

And while free does not = quality, this is quality. As far as the question of "Why does this need to be made" goes..Sonic 2 is considered by many to be the best in the series. It has a fanbase. So what if a community decides they want to make it? It's not an official title that you have to pay for, it's a project and a tribute. My god.

And yes, RWDebara, I agree. People bitch too much. The fuck is wrong with the game, the shape of his shoes, or like a misplaced pixel on a bush?

edit: Forgot one thing if you've got a problem with a remake just because..it's a remake? Don't play it. Play the original. That's why it's there.

It does play well, there is no denying that. I feel that whatever programming talent is working on this game is being wasted thanks to whatever robot is working on the graphics.

You might as well say the original has terrible graphics too. It looks pretty similar aside from the fact that it's not pixelated.

I would say that, but not really, kinda. The resolution helps hide a lack of detail which this game is showing. There's also the nostalgic charm of pixels I guess. Really you just can't straight up clean the graphics of a 16bit game, Earthworm Jim showed this as did Final Fantasy IV. It just looks detailess and weird.

I have more respect for that Sonic Remix thing, even though I'm not a fan of the art design in that.

edit: Actually Final Fantasy IV DS is also a good example of this, but for different reasons. The towns tended to look a bit odd and barren because they were basically the exact same as they were in the SNES game.

Well, I agree with Rek on all of this.
That's all I have to say.

I really like this. The graphics are clean and smooth with fantastic animations, it is basically exactly what you would expect from a HD version of the classic game. In fact, it does remind me a lot of Sonic 4 in terms of style, but this isn't a bad thing.

I do especially love the act transition, as others have mentioned, and the soundtrack is sounding pretty nice too.

As a HD version of Sonic 2, it does what it says on the tin. It's not a remixed remake like other Sonic projects, it's a remastering. And for a fan project, it's bloody good.

The only problem I have with it is that it's taken this long just to create the first act! It's nice as a tech demo, in that sense, but I don't hold much hope for seeing a completed version featuring all zones.

Still, bravo to all involved!

Wow and I thought I was being harsh.

And yea, the music is pretty good.
