I like calling them that. If I say "Shooter" people jump to the FPS genre. If I say "Arcade shooter" people think about Time Crisis/House of the Dead. So shum'up - shoot-'em-up.

"Shmup" is a crap choice. It's a shooter. Need more? Space shooter. More still? It's like R Type.
Not totally teetotal.

I know them as Shmups :p

HORROR! My purchase of Tomb Raider Underworld will not work! Getting DRM issues, so I have emailed GameFly! Though this morning I did buy Tropico 4 for £7.50, LA Noire for £5, and Transformers: War for Cybertron for £3.50 from GameFly (all PC versions).

Heh, a curious interpretation of the 'shmup' term then.

I'm kinda like the captain and only really say shooter. None of my mates care about the games so it's not like I ever have to talk about them in real life anyway, and if I said shmup they'd probably just be shaking their heads in despair at how nerdy I sounded. I think I'm still being judged from when one of them saw deathsmiles 2 on my shelf.

Pretty much. "Shum'up" is how I kept pronouncing it my head and as such I tend to write it like that now. I've accidentally corrupted it. You've all made me feel silly now. Thank you.

I think the judgement might've been more because of the lolis on the cover rather than the game's genre. Heck, even I felt awkward when Deathsmiles arrived in the post and I know I live a lot further down anime/manga lane than you.

I like shiny things. So I bought one of those "Chrome" blue Xbox controller today whilst milling around in ASDA.

Soooo shiny, although it bothers me that Microsoft still won't make their controllers with rechargeable batteries.

For an extra £20. Unlike the PS3 controllers which are rechargeable right out of the box.
