That's foreversonic's little album thing; a couple of his tracks were in that TSS 2011 Album?Dr Shaneman wrote:The hell is this?

...Or is that expression through words because of the album art? Does it insult you?

Right, I need a bit of a rant to some impartial people so here will have to do. Normally I'd go for it on Twitter or something but what has riled me up involved some folks I know on Twitter so that's out of the window. (Oh, hey, social media drama! Yay.)
Korean Pop. ("Bu-wha-?" I hear you say, but don't worry, I'm going somewhere) I don't know a whole lot about it, but I know a few people who do and two of them wound me up yesterday and that lead to me to some thinking: As you probably know PSY's song "Gangnam Style" has gained mainstream attention lately thanks to it's catchy lyrics and light-hearted video, of course this is just an internet fad - it'll pass - but according to these two K-pop fans "the masses" liking a K-pop song is a bad thing. Now it was my turn to go "Bu-wha-?"
Apparently "People ruin things". Now, while I can understand where this opinion comes from (Obviously a new market/audience may result in artists changing their music style) however Gangnam Style is obviously going to be a one hit wonder so when I quizzed the pair further about their worries about any people discovering K-Pop, liking what they find and as a result possibly liking what the pair like the only answers I received sounded like their view was "I don't want people liking what I like because then it might be popular and that's bad."
I don't understand this view. Is it because some people like to be an odd type of "unique" or "alternative"? If something relatively obscure that I care about suddenly became popular I would relish the opportunity to take new fans under my wing and help them learn about the subject matter in the hopes that they would make new discoveries and maybe enjoy it even more.
We'll K-Pop/Gangnam Style as an example: (Let's pretend I have some knowledge beyond a couple of SNSD tracks):
Random fictional acquaintance: "Hey, I quite like that Gangnam Style song."
Me: "Oh? Have you checked out any of PSY's other stuff? [Similar artist's name]'s stuff might be worth a listen too."
Random: "Really? I'll check them out. Thanks."
Me: [Warm fuzzy feeling inside because I imparted wisdom/helped someone]
It happens with games sometimes as well, doesn't it? Fans of a previously unpopular franchise are annoyed when new people discover the fantastic sequel.
tl:dr: I don't understand people.
