Don't call it a comeback.
At the Game Developer's Conference Sony announced this perhipeal; in a way taking VR gaming seriously in how they are adamant about further enhancing gaming itself. Or something like that.
Does anyone see this as being just another gimmick, or see some actual effort being put into this technology? Do you think they will have learned from past mistakes? *coughwonderboycoughcough*

Effort being put into the technology? For sure, just look at Oculus Rift.
But Sony seem to have problem where they get good technology out but for whatever reason third parties don't really care for it, and instead of trying to keep it alive Sony just forget about it and leave it to die (see: Move, Vita)
