Chickaroo Reviews - Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped (PS1)

Post by chickaroo1 »

2 years later, Crash Bandicoot has become one of the most successful video games on the PlayStation. Might as well make a 3rd one right?Game:Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped
Systems: PlayStation, PlayStation Network
Release Dates:PS1: 10/31/98 (NA), 12/5/98 (EU), 12/17/98 (JP)
PSN: 9/27/07 (NA), 2/7/08 (EU), 10/23/08 (JP)
Developers: Naughty Dog
He’s Baaack - And With New Villains
Story:Dr. Neo Cortex is back yet again - and this time, he unleashes an evil mask named Uka-Uka. Uka-Uka reminds Cortex of his failures at getting the gems and crystals, but thanks him for being released. He then gets Doctor Nefarious Trophy to create a time machine to go back and gather the crystals and gems. So now it’s up to Crash and his sister, Coco, to stop them from screwing up time and destroying the world!
How Times Have Changed
Gameplay:You get to play as Crash yet again but this time, Coco is playable in some levels.
Just like in Crash 2, there is a hub. But this time, all the areas are right there split off into 5 sections. In each section, there are a total of 5 levels and then a boss battle. And since this game is themed with time travel, all levels are different themes of history. From medieval, the ancient Great Wall of China, the dinosaur age, WWII airplanes and more. In each level, the object is to get the crystal. Once you beat the boss in a section, you can revisit the level and gather gems or do a time trial for a medallion.
Boss battles are pretty simple too. Most of them are 3 hits and they’re out. There is some skill to them. Also after defeating a boss, you can obtain a new skill for Crash.
There’s lots to do and it’s a lot of fun.
Getting Prettier
Graphics:Man the graphics got a little better than last time. Everything is nice and colorful, it’s cartoony and much more. It’s a pretty game to look at. Even with all the environments in the game. It’s pretty beautiful.
Sounds of Time
Music:This game’s soundtrack is wonderful! From the medieval soundtrack to the Chinese music to the deep mysterious underwater sound, it’s a nice and neat little soundtrack.
Music is composed by Josh Mancell.
One Heck of a Good Time?
Overall:Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped is probably the best in the series. It’s bigger, better, and there’s more to do. And it’s nice that Coco is now a playable character in some levels is really nice. The game is a lot of fun to play. A must have for PlayStation users!
