Chickaroo Reviews - Mario Party 8 (Wii)

Post by chickaroo1 »

It’s a new party on the Wii! So that means a new Mario Party game! And since the Wii has motion controls, we got some fun motion controlled mini games!
Game: Mario Party 8
Systems: Nintendo Wii
Release Dates: 5/29/07 (NA), 6/22/07 (EU), 7/13/07 (UK), 7/19/07 (AUS), 7/26/07 (JP), 8/3/07 (UK re-release)
Developers: Hudson Soft
Welcome to the Star Carnival!
Gameplay: The gameplay is what you would expect from the previous Mario Party games. 4 players on a board, competing for the most stars and you win.
The boards themself are pretty interesting. There are a total of 6 boards, 5 playable at the start of the game and 1 locked. All the boards offer something different. There’s Goomba’s Booty Boardwalk where it’s just pretty much a straight line and at the end is a star. And there’s Koopa’s Tycoon Town is pretty much like Monopoly.
So how it works is that at the start of a board game, everyone starts off with 10 coins. And everyone rolls a dice to see who goes first. The dice can go up to 10 (so a total of moving 10 spaces). There are items to buy too. Like double dice and triple dice and more. Like items to steal coins from others and such.
There are also unique spaces too. There’s the typical red and blue and green spaces. Red = lose 3 coins, blue = gain 3 coins, green = mystery space. There are DK and Bowser spaces too. If you land on the DK space, Donkey Kong will help you out and if you land on the Bowser board, Bowser will screw you over.
So, mini-games. After everyone takes a turn, it’s mini-game time! Mini games can be 3 against 1, 2 vs 2 and all people against each other. The goals to these mini games are simple - be the the first to win.
Are You Sure This is Current Gen?
Graphics: The graphics here are pretty..eh. They’re not that good for a Wii title. It seems very GameCube-y. The models seem pixelated (especially if you have a big TV). It’s an okay looking game.
Happy Fun Times
Music: I like the music a lot. It’s pretty catchy and happy to listen to. It’s a joy to listen to.
Music is composed by Yoshihiro Tsukahara.
A Joyous Carnival?
Overall: The game is pretty okay. It’s still fun to play but only if you’re with friends. If you’re doing single player mode, it can get pretty boring. The mini games can be pretty entertaining.
