Chickaroo Reviews - DuckTales: Remastered (PS3)

Post by chickaroo1 »

One of the greatest NES games (and one of the greatest Saturday morning Disney cartoons of all time) has been remastered. Is it as great as the original? Game: DuckTales: Remastered
Systems: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Microsoft Windows (Originally on Nintendo Entertainment System)
Release Dates: PSN / eShop / Steam: 8/13/13 (NA), 8/15/13 (EU)
XBLA: 9/11/13 (NA)
Physical Discs: 11/12/13 (NA)
(Originally released on 9/14/89 (NA), 1/26/90 (JP), 12/14/90 (EU))
Developers: WayForward Technologies (Originally Capcom in 1989)
Life’s Like a Hurricane
Story: So at the beginning of the game, the Beagle Boys have broken into Scrooge McDucks’ mansion to steal his money and to capture his nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie. Scrooge manages to save them in time before the Beagle Boys end up taking five of Scrooge's most prized possessions. So he and Launchpad head out to find them (along with the help of his nephews).
Catch Some DuckTales!
Gameplay: This game is pretty much a full-on remake of the original game. It’s still a platformer. Also, at the level select, you can pick any level you want in any order.
You play as Scrooge McDuck. He can jump, use his walking cane as a pogo stick to squash enemies or to reach higher places or smack enemies with his cane when standing next to them.
There are also collectibles too (besides, what’s a platformer without platforms collectibles). You can collect jewels to earn money, collect ice cream and cake to refill health and more. The goal of the level depends on what is going on in the story. But at the end of the level, there is a boss battle. And after the boss battle, you get the treasure you lost back. It’s simple gameplay but it’s still a lot of fun.
A Saturday Morning Cartoon on the Home Console!
Graphics: All the graphics have been updated to a 2.5 D perspective. The sprites are in nice clean 2D and hand drawn. The backgrounds are also in 3D. They look really nice and clean as well as being really smooth-looking.
Shake Those Tail Feathers
Music: The remastered music is pretty good! It's catchy, groovy and fun. It also captures the fun spirit the game brings. The original game also had great 8-bit music too.
Music is composed by Jake Kaufman.
A Classic Redone Done Right?
Overall: DuckTales: Remastered is a fantastic game. It’s a lot of fun and a throwback to the original game. There is a little thing that is a little bothersome. The cutscenes between some levels and moments in the levels can kinda drag on a bit. The cool thing about them is that the original voice cast from the cartoon reprises their roles. But other than that, a very good game.
