Introducing: SEGATHON 3!

First, it was for children. Then, it was for everyone. Now, it's personal.

As you might have heard on Saturday Night SEGA this past weekend, RadioSEGA is very proud to announce that we are, once again, holding a SEGATHON 24 hour livestream in October, raising money for a charity that is quite close to my heart.

If you're not familiar with SEGATHON, the basic jist is this - it's a 24 hour live show hosted by myself to raise money for charity. The original SEGATHON, created for a bit of fun in 2011, raised money for BBC Children in Need and was a moderate success, raising £632.00.

That was supposed to be the end, but two years later, madness set in and SEGATHON 2 was created, this time to raise money for Cancer Research UK. To say it was successful was an understatement - despite technical issues which meant SEGATHON 2 was off air for nearly 90 minutes, the final total still clocked in at a remarkable £1,784.50, which put us in the top 5% of all fundraising on JustGiving in 2013!

With that in mind, a third was inevitable. The only questions were when would it be, and what cause would we support?

If you're a longtime SNS listener, you'll know this, but my mother passed away last September after a short battle with secondary breast cancer in the liver. During this time, she was looked after by a team of nurses from Marie Curie Cancer Care, a charity who, like many charities, are funded primarily from donations from the public. They don't do a lot of advertising unlike other charities, and are grateful for any and all donations received.

As a thank you for the help, assistance and care that my family received from them last year, I decided that SEGATHON 3 would raise money for them. In my mind, they do some of the hardest work imaginable, and I'd like to give something back, in my own special way.

In the coming weeks, I'll be sharing more information about what you can expect from the livestream, including any themed hours and, like last year, if there's to be a Hatsune Miku shaped punishment (or two!) should we reach a certain milestone...

Oh, before I go, this is when SEGATHON 3 is taking place - there's still something I have to sort out first, but we are looking at EITHER Friday 16th October OR Friday 23th October. On both dates, it will start after SEGA Mixer Drive at 11pm UK Time, ending with a one hour super special Saturday Night SEGA episode on the Saturday from 10-11pm.

I really hope you can help us make this SEGATHON the best one yet. I'd love to smash SEGATHON 2s total, but in all honesty I'm going to be happy with whatever we raise for this one. Like it says at the top, this one's personal.
