Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi were just the beginning; Now we're getting serious.
WELL. This is certainly some big news (no, not Big News, Somebody else has sorted that one out), but it looks like SEGA have soft launched Sonic Adventure DX on iOS devices...in China.
This news comes courtesy of Tracker, and before you all cry foul, I'd like to point out that I myself was also sceptical, so I checked it out myself and can indeed confirm that is is real. Basically, what we're looking at is an almost complete version of Sonic Adventure DX, on iOS. I say "almost complete" as it looks like you only get Sonic's Story initially, with the other characters added on as DLC. Not an ideal situation, I'm sure, but I would presume this decision has been made in order to keep the initial download size down.
The iTunes Store has SADX listed for 90 Chinese Yuan, which roughly works out at just under £9.99. It also lists additional characters at 35 Yuan, or again just under £3.99. Strangely, there's no listing for Super Sonic, so whether he is to come later or he's unlocked once all other characters have been bought, it's hard to say.
We have reached out to SEGA for comment, and are looking forward to hearing from them soon, but in the meantime Tracker did send over a video with his initial tip, showcasing Emerald Coast running on an iPhone. You can check that out below.
I'm really looking forward to checking out Sonic Adventure DX on my iPad, if it runs on my Mini (Crazy Taxi doesn't), and we will let you know as soon as we know more, although SEGA might have been looking to announce this at their 25th Anniversary event in July.
Feel free to drop us a line in the comments if you're excited for this upcoming port of a Dreamcast classic!
