SEGA's Western Boss Leaves Company This Summer

The man in charge of handling Western operations of the company to step down as of this upcoming summer season.

It has been revealed Monday morning that thechief of SEGA's American & European branches, Mike Hayes, will soon be stepping down from his post as of this coming summer, according to MCV.

Hayes will be stepping down to next focus on non-exec roles externally and internally from outside of the industry, as well as working on advisory roles, says the website. In addition, Hayes has already become part as "a trustee of the Birmingham Hippodrove Theatre Trust." Once he leaves, his European duties will be handed over to Jurgen Post, the COO of Sega Europe. There's no word on who's going to be chief for the American branch.

In his eight years at SEGA, the Western business at Sega was all under his wing, all the while moving the Japanese side of the company's interests within Europe and America when the company began publishing its games worldwide.

The President and Representative Director of SEGA, Naoya Tsurumi, praised Hayes' work when he was part of the company; he spoke on his achievements to MCV, which you can read below:

“Mike has achieved a huge amount during his time at Sega and we thank him for the amazing things he has accomplished. Mike is a great character and very passionate about the industry, he helped steer the extraordinary growth of Sega and has built an exceptional team of professionals that will stand us in good stead for the future.”

Hayes' accomplishments include changing SEGA into a more digital-based form of business, as well as acquiring The Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive, which bring in many successful PC hits from the comapny, such as the Total War and Football Manager series, respectively.

Again, Mike Hayes will be leaving his post as chief this upcoming summer season.

What do you have to say on the man that brought as much success to the company he brought in? And what next in store for SEGA once he leaves? Sound off in the comments below in the SEGA Events & News Thread over at our message boards.

Thanks to MCV for the story.
