SUMO asked fans to vote on possible DLC characters for Sonic's newest racer, and they responded in droves. But who passed the magical 1,000 mark?
A couple of weeks ago, Steve "S0L" Lycett set the SEGA Forums a challenge with regards to possible Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed DLC, and they responded in kind with a huge campaign featuring characters from pretty much every SEGA game going...except Burning Rangers.
Well, the campaign ended yesterday, and there were 6 characters that managed to get past the target of 1,000 signitures that S0L had set. These six characters are:
Ryo Hazuki
Hatsune Miku
Segata Sanshiro
Vectorman
Bayonetta
Ristar
Fan favourites Toejam & Earl fell just 7 votes shy of the 1000 vote target (EDIT: As of December 1st, 5:20PM ToeJam & Earl has indeed made it over the 1000 vote target, at 1015 signatures), however as SEGA don't own the rights to the Hatsune Miku character, and are unlikely to license it purely for a DLC slot, there is still a slim chance that the alien duo, whose two Mega Drive outings were recently re-released as part of SEGA's Vintage Collection, could yet be included.
Furthermore, there is still a little bit of confusion as to the status of Bayonetta, and whether or not she's still licensed to SEGA. On one hand there is the upcoming Bayonetta 2 on Wii U, published by Nintendo, yet on the other she is a pre-order bonus for upcoming SEGA beat-em-up Anarchy Reigns. There's no doubt that the question will be asked, but if she's also refused, Billy Hatcher, who was 8th in the list, could find himself thrown into consideration.
There was also a couple of disappointments in the list. Sketch Turner, the hero of Comix Zone, only managed a somewhat measley 303 votes, with Yakuza's Kazuma Kiryu scraping three more than that. Welkin Gunther, of Valkyria Chronicles fame, snagged 366 votes whilst co-star Selvaria Bles got 90 more.
